DC Tom Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Along those lines, maybe it would be best if the doctors just let that one go. As a Bills fan, I think I'd jump at the chance to have the Jauron Years wiped from my memory. Keep fighting, bro! I was going to say earlier (but it was too early), second-best thing to happen to him would be no brain damage. BEST thing to happen to him would be to have damage so selective he forgets only about the Chan Gailey hiring.
flomoe Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 He thinks it's 2005? Part of me wants to get him a laptop and see if he'll start a thread bitching about Kelly Holcomb's checkdowns and Willis McGahee's inability to pick up the blitz. That is some funny stuff right there! So glad to hear that Mr. Beer is on the positive side of things and hopefully the worst is behind him. I will keep the prayers going out to Mr and Mrs BeerBall and their family.
wnyguy Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Glad to hear he BB is doing better, thoughts and prayers continue.
Bill from NYC Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 OMG I just caught this. BB and Mrs. BB, my prayers for a full, and speedy recovery go out.
eball Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 OMG I just caught this. BB and Mrs. BB, my prayers for a full, and speedy recovery go out. Ditto for me. Get well soon BB!
richNjoisy Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 OMG - you are in my prayers! I just saw this - thanks to whoever pinned it. Just saw this - prayers from Rich and the Rev N Joisy!
Chef Jim Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 You need something to balance out the Chef Jim's of the world.
Steely Dan Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 FWIW - (not much I know) The idea of a beer sommelier seems to me to be silly. Beer is supposed to be an "every-man" type of beverage not the snob drink that wine can be sometimes characterized as. When wine is sold in kegs or balls then perhaps a true achievement will be registered for all of mankind. Oooohhh!!! Meads gonna be so pissed at you!! Status updated: Caringbridge Update The highlight of the morning was John unilaterally deciding that he needed to get out of bed. I shouted "we got a runner here!" and three nurses flew in to convince him it was a bad idea. John won out though, and with help was able to stand and shuffle a few steps to the bathroom. Miraculous. He ate a fine breakfast of all the same type of stuff as yesterday. Yup, Bruce.....more lovely J-e-l-l-o. I was impressed with how deftly he maneuvered his popsicle to make sure the last piece didn't just fall off. Fine motor skills are coming back. I chattered about this and that, telling him about taking the Niche brothers to Hutchins. Two tears slid from his eyes...not sure if it's because he missed eating the 'que or because it made him realize, wow, if my brothers are here I must've been really bad off. Hehe. The neurologist came in to test his reponses. I was nervous because although he had used his expressive face to communicate, he hadn't talked outloud. To my great relief, he spoke his name when asked. Then, when the neurologist pointed to me and asked, "Who's this?" he scanned my face for a long minute, smirked, turned to her and said "wife". I know he wanted to make a smart-alec remark. Now normally I'd say smart something else, but there are students of mine reading this and I have a teacherly image to maintain Just sayin'. Didn't want anyone thinking, "Where's Roberta and what have the aliens done with her?" Huh. Think I'm a little loopy right now, along with John. The last question the neuro asked was "What year is it?" John said "five" so he's still got a little work to do. He held up 2 fingers when asked. I ordered Philip and Megan back to Texas Tech last night and they arrived there safely. I know my little "grandkitty", Jasper, missed them. Phil's got some insanely hard engineering class this morning and I know John wouldn't want him to miss it. I have a cute picture of him feeding his dad ice chips. John's gonna love it. Katherine (Kat) is still hanging with the Jurca family in Melissa. They have taken incredible care of her through all of this. Liz went to school this morning. She has been so poised and mature through all of it....the kid's a real matriarch in the making. Talk about Italian women Pia...she's another one. Love you all....family, friends, neighbors, our JC Penney, Melissa School District and Bufflo Bills families....you've all been awesome with your prayers, jokes, good wishes, gifts, etc. We appreciate it all so much. So....everybody crank some Led Zep at some point today. I personally thing "Whole Lotta Love" would be a good choice. Right, cousin Carol? We've got lot's to celebrate! Next think you know he's going to be asking for beer! Way to go John! I think it was the addition of the Bills Blanket that helped you turn the corner. Keep the faith!! Nobody circles the hospital beds like the Buffalo Bills!!! He thinks it's 2005? Part of me wants to get him a laptop and see if he'll start a thread bitching about Kelly Holcomb's checkdowns and Willis McGahee's inability to pick up the blitz.
SDS Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 He held up 2 fingers when asked. Cool! BB v2.0 will be waaaay more talented than v1.0!
Nanker Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Way to go Beerball! Next you'll be flashing the nurses. Get well and do it soon.
BuffaloBill Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Another Update from Mrs Beerball: CaringBridge Link It's a good night. John is sitting in his chair, eating a lovely melange of beef tips, spaghetti, and mushrooms. When Peter and I came back from a quick bite at Panera, nurse Jamie said she's found him standing next to his bed, preparing to bolt down the hall. She put him in the chair with an alarm and he'd set it off three times. Gotta admire the man's determination. He wants OUT of the bed. Right befefore dinner, he clearly mouthed "I want to go home". We are making progress toward that end. Physical therapy went well. He cooperated when told to raise and lower arms, resist, etc. The ccupational therapist had him brush his own teeth and wash his own face. He had great dexterity doing these task, he's just doing them a bit slowly. The pulmonary specialist said it's like his brain rebooted. I say it's like his brain is normally Windows 7 and right now he's DOS. Women, of course, are Mac OS X! Great at multi-tasking and WYSIWYG. A little geek humor there. Paul flew back to CT this afternoon. It was so, so great to have him here. He is strength and comic relief at the same time. Love you, bro. John just came back from a CT scan. No results yet. Kat visited earlier with Amanda jurca, Liz is here right now. She is happy that I got the man some gel in his hair. Lea Holzman came to cheer me up. Crazy woman, I love her. Henry came by and we teased him about the 5 times 2 thing messing up the neurologist. It's going great. Much love to you all.
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 You think that Beerball will need to be nursed back to health?
Steely Dan Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 The latest; Amy Platt brought me root beer and Reese's cups, whoo hoo! I'm snacking on this stuff and neighbor Hal's chocolate frosted brownies. Henry's son's homemade rosary beads and Leanne Bush's XOXOXO sign hang from the TV. The Italian cookies Paula gave to Paul to give to John are nearly gone. My niece Victoria's bannana bread is history. I've been living off the snack bags from my Melissa School District family. Guys.....I'm supposed to be dieting John and I are watching the Sabres game. He's still not too chatty but he's pretty worn out. He told one nurse "I appreciate it" outloud. Kim, Christie, Buffalo Bill, Redneck, Dave.....oh man I'm gonna leave somebody out cuz I'm spit-dribbling tired....thanks for visiting over the last few days and keeping us going. Tina, flowers are cool..John grinned when I told him they are from you guys. Hey little cuzzes Paulie and Mark....Great to hear from you. He's flipping around, trying to get comfortable. Sleep in a hospital is tough...I want to get him home.

GG Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 John and I are watching the Sabres game. He's still not too chatty but he's pretty worn out. He told one nurse "I appreciate it" outloud. Now why would you want to encourage a setback?

BuffaloBill Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Update from Mrs BeerBall: Linky Looks like John will be moved out of ICU today to the 4th floor which apparently hosts a "step down" care center. Katherine wanted to know why it is a floor up if it is a step down. Hard to argue with that logic. He tried to get up again a few times during the night but otherwise was peaceful. This morning after French toast and coffee, nurse Jamie let him get up and walk the corridor. He's still got a few miles of pacing to catch up with me, but he went pretty far. He was happy to get back in the bed when done. Beofre he conked out, I told him tha the Bills hired Bruce Dehaven. He seemed happy with that. He's starting to talk. He told me that his mouth was sore and that the hot foods hurt. He was able to thank Peter for being here. Peter left this morning to return to Rochester. Thanks for everything big brother. You were calm and wise when I needed you most. Love you. Oh, just before he reached the end of the hallway, I tried to take a picture (the iphone malfuntioned.....my fault....I didn't disconnect it properly). I told him it was "for Philip" and he stuck his tongue out!
