Although, if we are not going to go outside of LEO, what is the point of even HAVING the capability for manned space flight? Other than keeping lots of people employed... But the Ares system, including the Orion crew capsule, would be useful as hell - particularly if they had the brains to build a reusable trans-stage and turn the space station into a geosynchronous orbit waypoint.
