Ford and Honda surging! Good market reaction. Maybe the US government can bail out Toyota now and make them keep operating the UAW-backed plant they shut down.

What Toyota plant is a UAW plant other than the now-defunct NUMMI (which was a decades-old joint venture with GM)?

I guess it would be a shock for folks to know that those oh-so reliable Corollas they have been buying for years were made in a UAW plant.

My, you do pick and choose... :wallbash:

You seem to have a lot to say about the dynamics of the auto biz. OK - tell us why Toyota's Van Nuys plant came into existence in the '80s...

Ya, keep spreading lies... Maybe one will stick with people. Toyota has built its rep on these falsehoods all these years. Sad that the lemmings buy into the coporate propaganda.

Do you work for Consumer Reports?

Anyway... The Japanese gov't bails out Toyota every year for how many years now? The last 30-40? American companies get one bail out and they are the bad guys?:worthy:

Why don't you petition the Japanese gov't to stop subsidizing their automotive industry.

You apologists are unbelievable... Typical, you want everybody to play by the same rules but in the end like to pick and choose who gets the sweetheart deals over others... Like duh! That isn't playing by the same rules.

exiled, i'm quite suprised by this post because for the most part your posts are good reads IMO.

japan has, other than fish, little to no natural resources. the japanese gov isnt "bailing out" this company year after year for making poor decisions like the usa auto companies did.

The Japanese companies never had to get that far to make poor decisions. Their engineering departments seem to be catching up now.

The Japanese gov't keeps it Yen weak... Basically subsidizing their auto-industy. Don't even get me started on their socialized medicine for their employees.

Yes... That amounts to bailing then out... Of course with that kind of help, a company will not get in trouble. Especially when they are competing against somebody who has to totally pay their own way.

It is akin to asking one college student (American auto industry) to work and pay their own way through school while another student (Japanese auto industry) gets a free ride on mommy and daddy's money. Then, cruicifying the working student who makes a bad choice and needs mommy or daddy to bail them out. Now the sh*t hits the fan where the other college student (Japanese) is getting bad grades and they are still be coddled by the apologists.

Eff that crap!

nice analogy! let me take it a step further.

one college student (American auto industry) takes no pride in going to college. gets by on barely passing grades, and doesnt plan for the future as graduation closes in and takes time off after graduation to "recharge". this student also wastes money partying every day.

another student (Japanese auto industry) gets 4.0's, studies their butt off and plans for the future by being over prepared for the next step as graduation closes in. this student applies for jobs before graduation and lands a job before exiting school. this job isnt just about the pay, but is because it's something this student respects and takes pride in doing. this student doesnt waste money on items it deems unneccessary.

Amazing how this crap has managed to get legs all these years.

Total fallacy and a lie. That is the myth that has been spreaded for many years now to keep the unfair system in place.

Ya... 4.0s is like producing rust buckets, sludging engines, gas and brake pedal problems, etc... etc... What? Does the Japanese industry have the professor in their pocket?

Nice. Blame the victim.

Anyway... I don't care if Japan has zero natural resources... Make them compete just like we expect a country like Haiti (also no natural resources) to compete.
