PDaDdy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos (27) Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins (28) Chad Pennington, Miami Dolphins (34) Tarvaris Jackson, Minnesota Vikings (27) Kellen Clemens, New York Jets (27) Troy Smith, Baltimore Ravens (26) – Restricted FA Other than possible Chad Pennington and his super weak arm I think any of these guys would be an upgrade for us. A good number of them come with some mobility which could help them running for their lives behind our current offensive line. Personally, I think I am leaning towards Troy Smith with Kellen Clemens and Travaris Jackson tied as close seconds. Yes, I was leaning towards Troy Smith before Donte started campaigning for him. Other than some ridiculously bad luck 2 years ago Troy was going to be the Ravens starter. Unfortunately for him Flacco was a higher draft pick, manned the wheel while his team won a few games and had that prototypical QB size coaches swoon over.
lets_go_bills Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Orton or Campbell could be serviceable starters while the QB we (hopefully) draft sits and learns.
reddogblitz Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I'd go hot and heavy for Kyle Orton. If Penningotn is healty, go for him too. After that Tavaris Jackson might be good. 9 TDs and 2 picks in 9 games in 2008. Tory Smith maybe. Kellen Clemmens, nah. I want someone who has played and we know is good if at all possible. As Nancy Reagan would say about Jason Campbell "Just Say NO". Honestly I'd stick with Fitz over him.

Then Clausen can take over after week 8.
Fewell733 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Campbell and Troy Smith are both RFA's. would probably need to trade for them.
bkc Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I am on board with chad as stop gap for a year or two.

What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe that they'd be any better than Trent Edwards? What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe they'd be better than Billy Joe Hobert?

What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe they'd be better than Billy Joe Hobert? Travaris Jackson and Troy Smith have shown some flashes. Jackson improved a lot but then was undercut by Favre. Troy Smith was going to be the starter last year until he got appendicitis (or something). Clemons has shown nothing at all other than pure suckitude.
Bring Back Kelly Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 David Carr or Travaris Jackson Jackson is young enough to be a long term option. Carr has the experience. either guy is an improvement
CountDorkula Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Why the H does everyone want Chad Pennington. We freak out because Trent does not throw down field, but want a guy who has terrible passing strength. The only reason he is so accurate, is becase he only completes dump, and short passes. Plus hes aging and is probably retiring. Id Take Jackson, Troy Smith. Give me a dual threat QB who can run and pass, we have not seen that in Buffalo I think it would be good give our current line status.

What have any of these guys ever shown you to believe they'd be better than Billy Joe Hobert? Trent Edwards has had serious playing time in three straight seasons and has regressed so badly, that he was benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick and lost the support of the team. I'll take the unproven guys with potential over the guy who has proven that he doesn't belong.

earthtobrint Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 The only quarterback on that list that won't be a restricted free agent is Chad Pennington and his super weak arm. The rest will be restricted in an uncapped 2010 season.
