Republican support for a bipartisan financial reform bill is building behind the scenes, the lead GOP negotiator told POLITICO Tuesday.

 

Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee got a frosty reception from his Republican colleagues several weeks ago when he announced he was stepping up to the negotiating table with Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.)

 

But that’s changed since he returned to the Senate Monday night for a vote.

 

“Now there’s beginning to be many, many back channel phone calls, conversations” between himself and other GOP senators, as well as at the staff level, Corker said in an interview. “I feel a significant change. … I think it may continue that way; I hope it will.”
