JoeFerguson Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 If the Bills win a game, "we" the fans do not win. "We" are not members of the Buffalo Bills organization. The only people who can claim the "we" status are those who directly participated in the game as a member of the team (coaching staff, players, GM, owner). Attending the game and cheering for you team still does not put you in the "we" category. Using this principle in regards to the Pistons-Pacers brawl, this statement is not entirely true: Thank you end of story. This is what it boils down to, they can't handle the fact that we are a better team and are coming to take what's ours. They're just sore losers. You cannot use the term "we" because you are not a member of the team. You did not contribute at all to the Pacers win. You are also not a member of the St. Louis Cardinals or the Buffalo Bills. If the incident had happened in Indianapolis and Ben Wallace went into the stands, would you be defending him? I doubt it. We are not professional athletes. We are fans.
kasper13 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 You obviously have no concept of what we fans do to support our team. The Bills have a huge home field advantage due to.........WE FANS.
ofiba Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 What about the 12th man? What about buying tickets to pay the players. We may not run for touchdowns, but we certainly play somewhat of a role in the team. Imagine yesterdays game with no one in the seats....would the Bills have had more of an advantage? Give it up about the brawl man. Artest is gone for the year.
JoeFerguson Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 You obviously have no concept of what we fans do to support our team. The Bills have a huge home field advantage due to.........WE FANS. 129607[/snapback] I have an excellent concept of what fans do to support a team, being that I have attended all the home games this season. Home team cheering may tip the scales in favor of the home team, but will not ultimately decide the outcome of a game. What I meant by this post is that we are not members of the team. "We fans" can mean that the fans are a separate entity and not directly affiliated with the team. "We" as in fans, and "we" as in the team are two different entities.
stevestojan Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I'm preeety sure that all of us understand we don't actually receive a paycheck from the Buffalo Bills organzation. I'm also sure when I didn't get to see the game this sunday, and I called my father in NY because I was stuck on I-95, and asked him "Are we winning?" he had a pretty good grasp on the idea that I meant the 53 men that wear a Buffalo Bills jersey. You're not educating anyone here. We know we don't play for the Bills. Every Monday that we wake up and don't have to go to practice pretty much sums it up. But, as fans, we are part of "The Buffalo Bills".
eSJayDee Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I disagree w/ you w/ respect to the 'we' pronoun. After 30 years of being an avid fan and the associated emotions and strong attachment to the team, I definitely feel that the Bills are 'my' team. (Okay, maybe some others feel that way, too.) Consequently, due to that close association, I often use 'we' and feel it's quite appropriate. Just MHO.
Surfmeister Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 The team is nothing but a set of empty jerseys that rotating players wear on a temp basis. We the fans have lived through several full rotations of ALL of the players and several coaching staffs as well. We the fans are the business stakeholders and we also finance the organization through ticket sales and all the licensed Bills junk we purchase. We the fans are more the team than the players themselves. Bottom Line: Fans rule, players drool.

For starters, who the hell cares if someone says "we" instead of "they". Get over it. Is there a current player or coach on the Bills who suffered through 4 Super Bowl losses? How bout the entire 80's? We as fans have as much right to claim the team as "ours" as the players do.
Gavin in Va Beach Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Without fans, there is no such thing as professional sports. Period. No Bills fans? No Bills. We are most certainly 'we'. Hell, we're probably more 'we' then most of the players that just cycle through the NFL system collecting their paycheck.

People in LA may go to a game to be seen, but Bills fans who show up in cold blustery weather fit the bills in my definition of a fan. I make this same point regardless of whether the Bills win or lose. When they win it should not be "WE won" just as when we lose it should be not "THEY lost". Kind of hypocritical, don'tcha think? By the way , WE suck this year. Granted, I like the recent turnaround, but WE will be lucky to finish 500....
