Fingon Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...n-jim-harbaugh/ Could Harbaugh have turned the Bills down because he knew that Al Davis would pay insane money for a college coach?
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...n-jim-harbaugh/ Could Harbaugh have turned the Bills down because he knew that Al Davis would pay insane money for a college coach? No, of course not. Harbaugh only turned the Bills down because Ralph Wilson is an old man. [/TBD idiot]
Heitz Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 It's been all over NFLN an Sirius that Harbaugh said no yesterday...
el Tigre Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 It would be interesting if Harbaugh were to take Davis's offer. If Al were willing to pay that much, maybe Harbaugh is the one guy Davis would trust enough to give some control to. The one time he did that recently was with Gruden, and the team was successful.

Al Davis thinks that he is a genius for picking youngish, first-time coaches who become awesome, since he hit with John Madden and Tom Flores. Since then Gruden is his only other success, and the past is littered with his failures, but he keeps plugging away...
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 No, of course not. Harbaugh only turned the Bills down because Ralph Wilson is an old man. [/TBD idiot]And Al Davis has shown complete sanity in his handling of his team for the last 10 years???
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 All that head-banging must be interfering with your reading comprehension, or your sarcasm detector. You should see someone about that.
The Senator Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...n-jim-harbaugh/ Could Harbaugh have turned the Bills down because he knew that Al Davis would pay insane money for a college coach? Probably not, since he turned them down as well... Sources: Harbaugh rejects overtures I think another poster had it right when he opined that it's a crucial time in college recruiting, and Harbaugh probably wanted to make a very public commitment to Stanford for the sake of his recruiting efforts. Interestingly, another college coach's name is being widely proffered in the Oakland rumor-mill, that of The Captain himself... Mike Leach
Bills Fan in MD Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 It's been all over NFLN an Sirius that Harbaugh said no yesterday... And just about everywhere else too.
Cynical Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Interestingly, another college coach's name is being widely proffered in the Oakland rumor-mill, that of The Captain himself... Mike Leach I made this call awhile ago. Al Davis and Mike Leach are a perfect "fit", and deserve each other. I would look forward to seeing the "show" those two put on. Plus it would be funny as hell to see the Raiders adopt a new fight song.
yungmack Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...n-jim-harbaugh/ Could Harbaugh have turned the Bills down because he knew that Al Davis would pay insane money for a college coach? Could you please post the links to a verified account of Harbaugh turning down the Bills "offer?" According to Nix, the job was offered to one guy and one guy only, Chan Gailey. So either Buddy Nix, who spoke on the record, is liar, or the off-the-record "informed sources report Harbaugh turned down the Bills" is complete media nonsense. Until you know which is which, it might be better to not continue passing along what appears to be false news. Leave that to FOX.
Acantha Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Seems to me Oakland would be a pretty decent job for a first time head coach. You get to make excellent money, get all sorts of experience being a head coach, and if it doesn't work out you get to blame Davis. If it does work out, you're a genius. Seems like no lose.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Al Davis thinks that he is a genius for picking youngish, first-time coaches who become awesome, since he hit with John Madden and Tom Flores. He just gave up on them too early.
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 He actually hired Shanahan and Lane Kiffin too. He just gave up on them too early. Very true. He became so unrealistic in his expectations that he was not willing to wait.
SACTOBILLSFAN Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 He actually hired Shanahan and Lane Kiffin too. He just gave up on them too early. Yes Lane Kiffin has been a success everywhere he's gone I don't know how the guy keeps getting jobs. He's a loser and a tool.
el Tigre Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Yes Lane Kiffin has been a success everywhere he's gone I don't know how the guy keeps getting jobs. He's a loser and a tool. What are you talking about?!?!?! Kiffen is awesome. I was hoping the Bills would hire him. You must not have seen this. http://bumpshack.com/2010/01/18/lane-kiffi...okup-apartment/
jr1 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Davis gets buyer's remorse the day after he hires every coach. Nobody wants to work for that kook
apuszczalowski Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 well, according to John Murphy, channel 4's sports director and the Bills play by play radio announcer, he spoke with Bill "the GM God" Polian when the Colts came to town and Polian said his son is going to work at Stanford for Harbaugh, but before agreeing to the job, he asked if Jim would be leaving anytime soon and Jim said no, he was not leaving for a few years.
apuszczalowski Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Rumor in Canada is that the Alouettes coach (and one for the original picks for possibly filing the Bills job) Trestman was brought in to interview for the Raiders non-existant opening
