Kipers Hair Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Did anyone see something as bad as this coming? I for one, did not. I know the kind hearted Bills fans will find some positive to latch on to, but what has happened today was completly out of left field and worse than I thought they were capable of doing. Perry Fewell - replaced with Gailey - wow a step down...a big one down. Big name or not, this guy is fodder at best.... I feel for you.

Gailey might not be the big name everyone was hoping for, but to say he is a step down from Perry Fewell tells me that you are: A.) Just very frustrated and saying whatever comes to mind without really believing it B.) Just not very smart Fewell is not an NFL head coach. He was only qualified to be a DC here because he was running Jauron's defense for him. He was more of an assistant DC. Gailey has been a successful HC at the college level and the NFL level. The man is qualified for the job. Whether he ends up being successful here remains to be seen but he is definitely a step up from Fewell.

If you would have told me week 17 that Modrak, Guy and Nix would still be with the organization, and that Nix would pick Chan Gailey to be HC, I would have pissed myself....haha, joke is on me I guess.

I didn't think much of his coaching at Dallas, where he had a team loaded with talent but still struggled at times. But though I am not a fan of his, I wish him good luck: he's going to need it. Of course, the spin has already started. Nix said, "we get the best qualified guy" at the press conference. Maybe he meant the best available guy, but he is already pushing his credibility to the extreme. We all know Nix had few choices to pick from and perhaps Gailey is the best among the (3?) candidates. (The only other two who seemed interested were Frazier and Billick.) I'm not going to go into my concerns about this choice right now. Instead, let's see who his assistants will be. That will give us the first clue about if Chan will have the resources to be successful. Clues 2 and 3 will be free agency and the draft. Until then, the guy deserves a honeymoon period.
Sen. John Blutarsky Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Until then, the guy deserves a honeymoon period. Aaaaaaand...we're done. Honey, was that the quickest quickie ever or was it just me? I'm actually surprised people didn't line the road stoning the limo as it came in.

Chan had all last year to Honeymoon. You know, when he was not working? He is a step down from Fewell and certainly from Frazier. But anything is a step up from DJ, right? Nix>Gailey>Levy+DJ. Right? Right? Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So tell me where he has failed as a coach because I don't see it. We never had a prayer of landing Cowher or Shanahan. So get the $%#@ over it and get on board the guy is a winner.

The guy is a winner...I agree tier one coaches were never really in play, but please admit, there is s large part of you that is disappointed by the hiring of Chan. This guy was on nobody's radar - and for good reason. Get on the bandwagon and shoot for the stars - just be prepared to pull the rip cord when the ground comes rushing up at you come week 6 or so....
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Really how is he a step down from Frazier? The only reason people state that is because he's the next hot coordinator that everyone says is going to be a great HC. But its strictly an opinion based on nothing but at best a gut feel. Secondly how many coaches, front office people, media people ever rip a coordinator in that position. To all the coaches and ex coaches around every coord is the next coming of Chuck Noll or Bill Walsh. No one is ever bad, they are all incredible according to what they say. So then everyone picks up the hysteria and says Frazier would be a great HC based on him having done nothing. I kind of compare picking Frazier to John McCain selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. There was alot written at the time that he selected her because no on knew ANYTHING much about her, so would take awhile to really dig into things. He was hoping by then the election would be over. That's the way Frazier is an unknown with little negative to say about him, so he must be great. I can understand people ripping the selection as not wanting someone like that. We all wanted a Cowler type hire. But to state the Bill's made a huge mistake hiring him when they could have had Frazier or Marty is a joke. I'll give you Marty may be a small step up from CG, but certainly not that much of a step up to go crazy over it. Year in and year out, Marty may have had better talent too but still never won much in playoffs. Looking at all the names out there, outside the big names like Cowler, they all had warts, in many cases with a guy like Frazier, you just hadn't had a chance to see them yet. The only name out there that to me had some intrigue to it was Brian Shott. The rest wouldn't get all excited about whomever they hired. He is a step down from Fewell and certainly from Frazier. But anything is a step up from DJ, right? Nix>Gailey>Levy+DJ. Right? Right? Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
