zazie Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Tim Tebow is taking his star power to sport's biggest stage. The former Florida quarterback and his mother will appear in a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl next month. The Christian group Focus on the Family says the Tebows will share a personal story centering on the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life." The group isn't releasing details, but the commercial is likely to be an anti-abortion message chronicling Pam Tebow's 1987 pregnancy. After getting sick during a mission trip to the Philippines, she ignored a recommendation by doctors to abort her fifth child and gave birth to Tim. The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner ended his college career with several NCAA, Southeastern Conference and school records, and two national championships. Tebow also has been very involved in his family's Christian-based ministry. Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said the commercial comes at a time when "families need to be inspired." "Tim and Pam share our respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive," Daly said. "Focus on the Family is about ... strengthening families by empowering them with the tools they need to live lives rooted in morals and values." Thirty-second commercials during the Super Bowl are selling for between $2.5 million and $2.8 million. Daly said all the funds for the ad came from a handful of "very generous and committed friends," and that no money from the group's general fund was used. "Now that the ad has been shot, we're excited to tell people it's coming because the Tebows' story is such an important one for our culture to hear," he said. "You won't want to miss it."
Thoner7 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Maybe I missed it, but why is Warner>>>>>>> Tebow? I assume you mean Kurt Warner too, I must be out of the loop.
zazie Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 Maybe I missed it, but why is Warner>>>>>>> Tebow? I assume you mean Kurt Warner too, I must be out of the loop. While Warner is very religious too and constantly thanks God for every good game, he does it with enough respct for other people to not push it too overtly to the point that he is prosyletizing. A super-bowl commercial about abortion? THAT sounds like an abortion.

I mean really, just use a condem, they are cheaper anyways.
Brandon Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 A super-bowl commercial about abortion? THAT sounds like an abortion. I don't see what the big deal is. He wouldn't be the first player to endorse something in a national TV ad. So maybe you don't agree with his religious views. The easy solution? Ignore it. It'll last all of 30 seconds of your life.

One that grates on me, and if Tebow isn't a successful QB in the NFL (like I, and many others expect) will grate on fans, and teammates as well. Especially if he is selected by the Bills, and presented as a, pardon the pun, "savior".

Geno Smith's Arm Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Does it? I haven't seen the ad yet. He has already revealed that aspect of his persona, and I can't imagine a religion-based anti-abortion commercial that would dish out anything else.

I must have missed the sermon where right to life/abortion is the excusive domain of religion. I guess I always thought this was a people thing, without regard to faith/non-faith beliefs. Anyway, if anybody can pull off this taboo, I suspect Tebow can. JMO.
BucksNBills Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Tim Tebow is a robot created by the Christian church to take over the world. He wasn't aborted because he was constructed in a lab. His lifetime checklist provided by God himself looks like this: Be coined as the next savior for Florida football Win back to back national championships Lose 1 game to prove you will rise again Be doubted Rise again (win Superbowl) Take over world This will happen and James Cameron will make another lame movie about it.

Love to have that dialogue with you sometime. Feel free to email me. Is there anyway I can give you my email other than on here?

He would be a top shelf guy in the Bills locker room.
Maddog69 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 you're right. What a jerk. I would much rather have the players on my team act like thugs, drive drunk, hit pedestrians, take drugs, carry weapons, steal money, impregnate numerous woman, etc. There is no place in this league for players with morals and character. (sarcasm off). I don't personally ascribe to the overly religious act, but I have no problem with players who do.
fansince88 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Let me introduce you to a certain forum here. PPP Wait, is what I just did a bannable offense? I wouldnt consider it so. Just wondering why it is ok to parade around with all kind of beliefs but as soon as one says he is a Christian he is self righteous. When the case is made that just the opposite is true. The basis of Christianity is that there is nobody righteous in himself. In fact the Bible says that our own righteousness is as filthy rags (bible day term for menstral napkins) in God's eyes. It is to that fact that we turn our lives to Jesus and believe in the work He did on the cross. So to say that Christians walk this way is a mis-represtentation. And I do admit that some do, but not all of us. Like the devil guy by the way. Got a good sence of humor.

However, if we discuss religion and abortion this thread will end up there quickly. My take, Tebow should have a commercial that isn't too preachy if he wants to reach as wide an audience as possible.
HumbleAndHungry Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 how can anyone see Tim Tebow as self righteous? makes zero sense
