Whether or not he gets faster, he's only 22, and has a few more years to get even stronger with a few more offseason training programs. But I agree, he is fast enough to be a great all purpose back.

Ok well according to the roster he weighs about 10 lbs more now than in college. Believe me I saw him plenty as a Cuse fan  :( He probably is indeed a bit slower than in college but he's got plenty of speed to succeed.  :D

Oh, I don't think he is nearly as fast as he was in college right now, which is why I said in the first part of the thread he is 90% back (the one thing lacking is the breakaway speed). Although he showed me more today than he has any time since the injury. But I don't think the lack of speed now is because he is bigger, nor do I think when he is completely healthy, that he will be any less fast than he was at UM.

I think we'll all be happy if you're right about that :(

I don't think the question this post asks or is really a relevant one is whether he is as fast now as he was in college, but where he is in being 100% of where he can be.

I don't think he will ever show the breakaway speed he showed in college because his opponents are pros now and simply faster that they are far more difficult to break away from than his college opponents.

I don't care how he stacks up in a foot race against an opponent, I care whether he can avoid being tackled against in NFL players who are a culled selction of the fastest players he ever played against in college who consistently take better tackling angles and are stronger than the college players he faced.

WM may be ten pounds of muscle heavier than he was in college and may well be slower because of it, however, if the real world result is that he is tougher to tackle and breaks through the secondary for long yardage. or is now able to vault a tackler who would never even have caught him college and amazingly come down in bounds, keep his balance, and get into the endzone (as he did today on the play called back by an off the play Evans foul) then I couldn't care less whether he was faster in the old days or not.

I think Simon's concern is misplaced because as Trey Teague said today when interviewed by Murohy on the MM show, you set a new 100% all the time.

I suspect that WM may well be slower in a footrace now than he was before his injury. However, I think we still have not seen him come back 100% to where he will comeback after his devastating injury AND I think as a 22 year old, he has several (assuming he remains healthy) of actually increasing the 100% of what he can achieve as he becomes more of a vet.

Just as TT and other runners did not hit their peak until after a few years in the league, I suspect the same will be the case with WM and when he learns to read and set up his blocks even better he will be a better runner even if he slows down.

Im telling you guys Will is only about 85% rite now, beleive it or not. He's a big gym rat and he basically just added weight known as "bulking up" since his injury...along with that weight comes a bunch of strength but also some extra unwanted fat. Right now Willis is playing at a bulked 238lbs and his bodyfat % is probably around 10-12 which for him is high...you guys watch...during this offseason he will get his first chance to cut weight and work on his speed and agility. Next season Willis will not only come into camp stronger...but he will be much faster and much more lean...I could see him playing next season at about 236lbs 6% bodyfat and once hes all shredded up and in prime condition you'll get a glimpse of his after-burners....you can also tell by watching him rite now that he is not near 100% yet because of the way he hardly fights to break out of certain tackles...he doesn't want to stress that leg just yet...oh yah and that extra speed he'll bring with him next season will make him an amazing runner....he'll be generating much more force and explosion when he runs, allowing his strength to have an even greater impact on contact thus breaking even more tackles.

I honestly think he's has good as he's going to get. Everybody keeps saying how it took Edge X months to get his burst back, but I don't think he's the same player now he was before the injury, nor will he ever be.

the edge only went for 200 yards today. yep, you're right. not the same player he was before.

are you a doctor? a knee specialist? anything other than a casual football fan? if not, then how can you "honestly think" anything about mcgahee's medical condition that carries an ounce of credibility?

Man that was a great run by Willis. Penalty or not, that was a big time run by a guy that will be a big time player. It is clear he's got what it takes. We've got a super star here.

That's good for him, especially since he's my #2 FFL back. And when I watch the Colts now I just don't get the sense that Edge has the same explosion he did before he tore up his knee. I didn't say he sucked or that he wasn't good enough, I just think he's more of a grinder than he used to be.

You are absolutely correct. Answering the question posed by my old friend K-dog was completely and unacceptably out of line. From now on I will make a concerted effort to not give my opinion on this message board until such time as I can get my P.H.D. so my opinion might have the slightest hint of credibility like yours. Sorry to have wasted your valuable time with my uninformed and meaningless opinion, Doctor e-ball.

All I can say is, the Bills BETTER concentrate on improving the O-line over the off-season. They've got all the "skill position" players (depending on what happens with Moulds and Reed) and now have no excuse to NOT focus on the O-line. I can't wait to see Willis at 100% running behind a good O-line!

Help me with this. Improve the OL? ANY QB would like to have a pocket and 3.5 seconds to throw. Our OL has that. ANY RB wants blocking that will give him a chance to have 100 yards. We have that.

Why don't we get rid of the common denominator that kept NE and Buffalo out of the playoffs first? I think that would be our best move to start with.

I, for one, am not sure. I would say he is about 90%. But this is the first time that I saw him turn it on and he ran by guys with a sudden burst of speed, which was a great sign. Even though that was a stupid, ticky-tack penalty on Evans, that was one awesome run by Willis. He's just about back. I would say by the beginning of next year he will be completely 100%. Up until this time, I wouldn't have thought that for sure. And it is tough to say.

I have no real way of judging, not being his doctor or physical therapist.

I did notice, however, that he's not wearing a brace on the knee. That tells me that he himself has a lot of confidence in the knee being pretty well healed.

I'm talking about a "power running O-line" that was only able to allow Willis to rush 19 times for 59 yards, until his amazing one run for 41 yards. That's unacceptable to me, especially against a team giving up 4.8 YPC. Also, as long as there isn't an all-pro at every (or any for that matter) position on the O-line, it can always improve. Oh and yeah, the future is Losman. Got it.

I thought he was favoring it slightly early in the season. I don't think he is favoring it at all by now. Guys worried about their knees don't really make that leap over defenders running full speed at them, IMO.
