Sam Young isn't a LT, lol, he is a RT and a RT only and not a very good one at that. He doest have the ag, speed or quickness for a LT and gets killed by speed pass rushers, there is a reason he only play RT at ND.

We have two or three young, potentially good LT's on the roster. Why wouldn't we take a RT in Round 3? Are you happy with Chambers and Butler?

Butler yes, Chambers as a #4 OT that can play G, sure.

 

Fox, Butler, Bell, Meredith, Chambers, and we can only keep 4. That is a good OT group with 4 of them able to play all spots but C.

Young can only play RT so he gives you no versatility which is what you need in back-up players.

I like the thinking Astro. Impact LB, Tackle, QB, Tackle and if the DT holds up, we'd have 5th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 7th to grab some more peeps.

 

Think of it this way red: if the others have the positional versatility, having a guy like Young start at RT would only make us better. We'd actually have depth behind him.

BTW, anybody surprised that Ben Tate hasn't been drafted yet?

I think of him as this year's Rashard Mendenhall, and the Stillers ultimately did well with that pick.

 

Mendenhall (drafted 23rd overall) fumbled often in preseason of 2008, but in week 4 of the 2009 season, Mendenhall started in place of an injured Willie Parker. Against the San Diego Chargers he jump started his NFL career by rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

My only reservation about Lamarr Houston is off-field issues. Suspended for one game after being arrested and charged with DWI in two-car accident (no injuries).

Wait til at least the 6th to grab Devine. Fast and shifty, I don't think his one cut moves will take him as far in the NFL. He is strong for a little guy though being able to bench over 400lbs. Definitely don't let Lynch and Devine room together.

I would think Devine would be a nice compliment to FJ as a change of pace back.

Unfortunately, this has gone down hill FAST. Nothing against the threads, Astro, but everyone is just basically drafting position with no idea of the player. Kind of takes the fun out of it.

Devine's got some talent, but never even lived up to his hype in WV. He was supposed to tear up the Big East, but he ended up basically being a solid back with the occasional "highlight" play. He may end up filling a Sproles type role (depth RB with some ST skills), but I don't think he will be as talented as Sproles. 6th rounder for a team in need sounds about right.

Noel Devine, I just have a feeling about him. He wasn't spectacular (But was great when he played/was on his game) in college But in high school he put up great stats and highlight films. I remember watching him on youtube a few years ago.

So his high school plays on youtube are supposed to be a barometer of his abilities vs. his moderate success in WVU's run happy offense????

 

Devine could very well be the next Sproles, but he could very well be the next Travis Henry. He already has 4 kids with different baby mama's.

 

He is a good back, but he'll be limited just like Roscoe Parrish, in what he can do in the NFL.

I'm okay with folks drafting position rather than the player. My job at DraftTek is to determine our positional needs. It has been extremely helpful to find out, for example, that if a strong LB is there at #9 you'd draft him, so I notified DraftTek that if McClain or Spikes drops to 9, then we'd grab them as well as a LT or QB.

 

Another example is that TSW'ers would take TWO tackles in this draft, so I notified DraftTek about multiple LT's.

 

Don't get too hung up on the accuracy of January mocks; use these simulations to gauge what you would do (or not do) in given situations. Have fun learning how you feel about that situation.
