EZC-Boston Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Anybody familiar with New Orleans? Guys trip down there in a week and none of us have ever been. I know the usual, Hurricanes, Pat O'Brien's etc but wasn't sure if there were any other cool spots to hit. I just bought 10lbs of beads on Ebay, hopefully they come in handy. Oh we're staying right across the street from Harrah's so there will be some gambling as well. Basically any bars that a bunch of guys from Buffalo would enjoy. We're more the play pool, darts, drink beers types than the hit the techno club type. Thanks in advance for any help.

Dan Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Best thing about New Orleans... you don't have to know anything. Just walk and within a block you'll have your choice of bars to walk into. Step in... if you don't like it, pick up your beer and walk to the next one. Repeat until you find a bar you like or you can't walk any more. Get off Bourbon St. if you want some really great bars. Last time I was there, we found some great!! bars in the Washington Square area. For food: you have to go to Mother's for lunch. Seems to always be a wait, but it's more than worth it. The best cooking you can imagine at very good prices. Get the bread pudding there and you'll never taste bread pudding again! For a nice dinner, a little pricier but not terrible, and a little quieter: a great spot is the Pelican Club. Both are close by you and within easy walking distance.
Delete This Account Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 That applies everywhere! easier in new orleans, a little tougher in utah. been to both. jw

Know it's a guys weekend, but if you want something to do during the day than just drink and fart, we did a great walking tour of the Garden District few years back. Awesome learning about the architecture, the cemetary etc. The one we took left from a very cool bookshop near Commanders Palace. The D Day museum is there as well, but I have never been. Now to what you want to hear.. as someone else said, just get and walk and you will find great places to eat/drink everywhere. Just do some research before you get there on what type of food you are looking for etc. From the best po boys(Johnies), to the Oyster House, to whatever you want, just google it up or look on Foders, Frommers, lonely planet, letgo, etc.

Geo in Pa Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 try tipitina's...always a good time... http://www.tipitinas.com/ Cafe Du Monde for beignets and great coffee Galatoire's restaurant Brennan's I took the wife there for her 50th a couple of years ago, hands downs, the best city I've ever been to. By all means, hit Bourbon St. Just be careful. We hit Cafe Du Monde, House of Blues, The Funky Pirate, Crescent City brewhouse, Jean Lafittes (sp). Funny story, we were sitting at the bar in Brennan's, the guy sitting next to us lived 5 minutes from us here in Pittsburgh, small world. We stayed at the Monteleone, you gotta visit the bar there, the world famous carousel bar. Oh, they have the best Bloody Mary's, green beans and okra instead of celery.

Jen and I went there in '03.....all of this advice is good....make sure you hit up the D Day Museum....it is very cool...as far as places not yet mentioned....We went to this hole in the wall bar called Mike's PUB N GRUB. It will remind you of a bar in Allentown. The food is greasy but good as hell...Look for my dollar bill on the ceiling that just says F*CK MIAMI! The bar itself is not too far away from where you are staying...off Canal St somewhere...just ask around

I have'nt seen him post on here for some time now. He would be a great help.
plenzmd1 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Saints will be playing but doubt we will go to the game, hopefully just get in some tailagating. EZ, when we were there the Saints were playing the Eagles in the Playoffs. Tailgating is mainly done on Bourban street, great time in the bars pre game..definetly suggest you plan on being down Bourbon Street 3 hrs before game time
NoSaint Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 hey i actually live in nola.... i read often, but not much for posting. Let me recommend the bars on frenchman street, and decatur st (on the back side of the quarter) quick picks--- snug harbor, blue nile, mollys on the market, apple barrel etc.... all within a couple blocks of each other, and not on bourbon street. bourbon and places like pat o's and razzoo are definitely fun, but you might enjoy getting out to some real local places. food: burgers, port of call. its a little bit of a walk but worth it. id say avoid mothers. not as special as everyone thinks. If you are planning on watching the game on TV with saints fans, go to cooter browns. Great food, fresh oysters, hundreds of beers on tap/bottled, many large tvs, and projection screens. pelican club is in fact a great choice (fancy) emerils is also great and within walking distance. on the walk back from there is a great bar called vics which has pool, darts, sports on tv etc... and is catty corner to a bar called lucys that saints players often hang out at. if theres anything your looking to do let me know.... how long are you in town for?
EZC-Boston Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 Ok, here's a quick trip report and a thank you to those who helped out. The trip didn't exactly go as planned due to the football games and the length of time I was there (too short) but it was a blast. I love what I saw and as a group we had a great time. Friday Night - Started with Razzoo's for 3-4-1 drinks and stayed there for a while before moving on to The Beach and a few other bars. Nothing too exciting, eventually we headed into one of the many gentlemen's clubs. I don't remember which one but it was awful. I turned around before even ordering a drink. I had some money burning a hole in my pocket so I went to the casino and played poker until almost 7AM. Saturday - We met for lunch at Huck Finn's. My buddy's found the place and thought it would be a good spot for us to watch the Saints/Cardinals game at but we quickly found out it was not what we were looking for. My buddy's found another place where we could all sit by a big screen and watch the game but again, no atmosphere and terrible service. I started wandering around looking for a better option. We wound up inside the Bourbon Cowboy. The back room was packed and it was a good time. Plus the front room had 3-4-1 beers so it was a cheap place to hang out. After the game we just stumbled around the various bars. The atmosphere was crazy. They love their Saints. WHO DAT!!! Eventually we went into Scores. Much better than the place the night before. Sunday - Lunch at Cajun Mike's due to EndZoneCrew's recommendation. Wow, an interesting little hole in the wall. Decent oyster po boy and then found his "!@#$ the Dolphins" dollar on the ceiling. After lunch we started our bar crawl down Bourbon Street and the surrounding areas. I don't remember all the names but basically we spent 30 minutes at each bar and then moved on. In the end we hit at least 13 bars. I think the Funky Pirate was my favorite, mainly because we were all pretty drunk by then and half of the crew wound up wearing pirate hats the rest of the night. Eventually we went back to Scores, which was boring because nobody was there and then went back to the casino. I know this trip may not sound like a good time for everyone but it was perfect for our crew. I'm already trying to think of an excuse to get back.
