inkman Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Not sure if I understand the sentencing. Isn't a felony DWI (the 2nd one) punishable up to 1 year in prison? So how does killing someone on top of that not equal more?
BuffaloBill Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I do not wish to throw stones as 12 years ago I ended up with a DWI. However, it was a life changing event for me. I realized that not drinking or calling a cab are the only choices that one should make. Easy to say I should have known that before but sometimes you just think "I'm fine" or whatever. With that said there is truly an odd standard in this country. If the guy drank and then took a gun and shot the other person to death he would have ended up in jail for far longer than one-year. Not sure how his situation is really that much different in that the outcome is the same. Keep in mind though - that at one time driving under the influence ws considered a joke of sorts. Not saying it made what I did right but I am old enough to have grown up and to have come to drinking age with people that used to laugh about running over mailboxes or whatever when they drove drunk. At least now people do have a the sense that it is a serious issue and not a laughing matter. Just my thoughts.
