Fewell733 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I think Bulaga is going to go a lot higher than these early draft boards have had him going. He'll be picked before Trent Williams and probably before the Rutgers guy too. I think there is a very strong chance he'll be the 2nd tackle taken and maybe even the first. I will be shocked if he makes it out of the first half of the first round. until McClain runs a sub 4.4, I think the Patrick Willis comparisons should wait.
dgrid Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 McClain in rnd 1 . Then hopefully we can get Bulaga, Campbell or Davis in rnd 2. Go for Lefevour in rnd 3.
JJ46 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 A LT (Not necessarily Bulaga though) no doubt about it. At linebacker we are weak but we have Poz and Mitchel coming back from injury and if we stay 4-3 there are a ton of serviceable free agents that could come in and do a solid job (Derrick Johnson among others). There are rarely any free agent Tackles and LT is a huge need along the O-line. There are a ton of serviceable free agent LB's that will be available. With Wood and Butler coming back from injury and the Hangman and Levitre already in place we might just be a LT away from having a decent core Offensive line. Hangman is a solid center, Wood and Levitre are good young guards who only stand to get better, Butler looked solid at RT in his brief stint and has shown he can play at a professional level (Butler is by far the weakest of the bunch but we have a pair of young tackles to back him up in Meridith and Bell). Now if you add a blue chip 1st round pick at the most important position of the line to that mix our line could be set for a while. Linebackers shouldn't be drafted in the top 10 unless they are Patrick Willis types and McClain to me screams like he will be a good player but not the game changer we need at pick number 9. Now I don't know much about Bulaga but if there is a good top 10 LT sitting for us to take then we better take him over a Linebacker. I would approve of taking McClain if the only LT's available are sever reaches. I think this is a really good analysis. I watched Bryan Bulaga in the bowl game and wasn't overly impressed. Derrick Morgan made him look pretty foolish at times. While Morgan is a really good DE, so are the opponents he will face in the NFL. However, I hadn't watched Bulaga prior to that game. Maybe others have seen him more often and can comment on his pass blocking skills.

I thought Bulaga looked ridiculously impressive.
bills_red Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Bulaga was beat a few times early on but he got better as the game went on. Morgan didn't play a lot vs. Bulaga.
H2o Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I think Bulaga looked very solid last night. He wasn't always lined up versus Morgan though. GT moved him around quite a bit and really ended up putting him against the weaker RT for the most part. I made it a point to watch to see if Bulaga finished blocks and tried to get to the second level after the initial block. He did pretty much every time. He also outright pancaked some guys, including Morgan, on a few of occasions. He doesn't seem to be overly quick, but has good strength and solid technique. He did have a couple of holding calls, but you have to expect that from any player from time to time. With all that being said, I STILL want McClain with our 1st Round pick.
Trader Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I like them both. I gotta go with Bulaga though. He looked dominant in the games I saw him. He reminded me A LOT of Jake Long. But the reason I go Bulaga is that a Left Tackle is just a lot more valuable than a linebacker. Good linebackers will be available in round 2. Good left tackles? Not likely. Bulaga was dominant in the Bowl game he just played. That is the only time I saw him play but he looked great!
Trader Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 McClain in rnd 1 . Then hopefully we can get Bulaga, Campbell or Davis in rnd 2. Go for Lefevour in rnd 3. Lefevour Might have moved into the first round. Certainly the second round, he had an outstanding game against Troy in the GMAC Bowl. The announcers were saying he is the best player ever to come out of the MAC.
Fewell733 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I'm eager to watch McClain tonight. I'd be fine if he changed my mind.

Baluga is the best run blocker I have seen in college in a long time. He has a great post and swivel and is always between his man and the ball carrier. Always wins at teh LOS. He is underrated as a pass blocker too- looked good agaisnt some very good DEs at GT. As for McClain... I just wanna say second round. He has heavy feet which wont show up in his 40 time cause he is a long strider. He is not very quick but is big. As the draft process moves along people will say he is a 2 down backer and will end up dropping like Maleuga did. He is a very good LB but not a top pick. People said the same things about Poz pre-draft. He is a second round guy who will fall a bit too far becuase of questions about his 3-down ability. I hope he is on the Bills roster next year, but he will be a second round guy. His value is not in the first 25 picks. Dont believe that idiot McShay.
