grammer_police Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Can someone please tell me the origin of the phrase "Lil Donte"? Is it just because he sucks?
Rico Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Antoine Winfield was a midget CB who was drafted in the 1st round from Ohio State. Though he was solid in run support, he was vastly overrated by most of the fanbase. Some wise sage dubbed him Lil Antoine, since he was height-challenged, mediocre in pass coverage, and never made any game changing plays while on the Bills. Donte Whitner is a midget S, also drafted in the 1st round from Ohio State. Though he is fairly solid at times in run support, he was (for awhile) vastly overrated by most of the fanbase. Since he is height-challenged, mediocre in pass coverage, never made any game changing plays, and came from Ohio State just like Lil Antoine, it was only natural that people would begin to call him Lil Donte.

That assesment on Winfield have proven to be very wrong. He is far from a midget and is a very strong tackler. He plays the run better than most CBs in the league and is known as a shut down corner. I will give you he does not get many picks but he does not give up many plays either. Lots of people in the NFL agree.

bbb Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Antoine Winfield was named to the All Decade team by Peter King and some others I saw.
