Why do so many people say this? It's obviously a HOOK pattern followed by a LATERAL. HOOK and LATERAL.

Little know fact here Norm.

The play that is now commonly referred to as the Hook and Ladder (or incorrectly as the Hook and Lateral) was first used way back in 1920 in a game between the Akron and your Buffalo All Americans.

As I recall the home team (Buffalo) was behind by one try with time running out. Buffalo had the ball with time for one more play. Back in those days plays were not as sophisticated as they are today and Buffalo's QB decided to kneel in the dirt and diagram a play. What he diagramed called for his split end to run a short curl route with the RB circling in behind him to take the pitch. Unbelievably the play worked to perfection and the Buffalo running back took the ball in for the score and the team won its only game that season.

The players involved?

Why they were split end George 'Crazy Feet' Hookenstottenfrum and running back Cecil Laddershokovski.

Now you know the rest of the story.

To read about this fantastic play and countless others consider purchasing this fine book.
