Astrobot
DraftTek wants our positional needs for January. Nix's hiring makes this a bit more interesting. If he hires Ron Rivera, it could signal a 3-4 defense a la Chargers. Yesterday's games likely make Tony Pike a 2nd to early 3rd rounder and Tebow a mid to late first rounder. OLB's will be few and far between in RD#3, but good ones exist in the first two rounds, RD#4, and in FA. Three possible directions to discuss, among many: OT, QB, OLB, then DT Something like Bulaga OT-Tony Pike or Colt McCoy QB-Dekoda Watson OLB-D'Anthony Smith DT. QB, OT, (OLB via FA), OG, DT --Colt McCoy/Bradford, Jason Fox OT, Matt Tennant OG or Mike Johnson OG (Sliding Wood to OC), and D'Anthony Smith or Jerrel Powe DT. (QB via FA and adopt 3-4) ILB, OT, OLB, QB ---Brandon Spikes ILB, Jason Fox LT, Jermaine Cunningham / Michael Morgan OLB, Jevan Snead / Dan LeFevour QB. Hearing your thoughts will help me submit Bills' positional needs to DraftTek Sunday night 9 EST. Current positional needs for all teams are here: http://www.drafttek.com/teamneeds2010.asp Thanks! LynchMob23
Not so fast Astro - if you look at a lot of the SD defense under Rivera, while they're officially a 3-4, he has them more or less in an "over" look, with Merriman with his hand in the dirt. So he's using pressure and what he knows in the 4-3 (without the Tampa 2). If anything we may need to have a pre-emptive priority on a true DE, as Denney's a FA, Schobel may retire and Kelsay, Maybin and Ellis do not a rotation make. Can you make a size requirement for Linebackers? Because Watson is around 225 or so and we'll probably want a bigger OLB...
Quester74
Personally, I like your 3rd option you listed best.

Watch Eric Norwood today (1/2) at 2pm on ESPN, Sergio Kindle on Jan 7th, and of course Sean Witherspoon. Even if we pick up an OLB via FA (which is likely) we may take a flier on Ricky Sapp (chancing his full recovery from injury) or Cameron Sheffield from Troy (remember Demarcus Ware came from Troy!). Dave_In_Norfolk
A good OL can make a bad QB look good, but a bad QB can make a good OL look bad. And a good offense will just make life so much easier for the D. Play it by ear, if there is a can't miss QB or LT take them and run.
Estro
#58 on Oregon last night looked like a very nice defensive player. Looked built like a LB probably about 240 lbs, but very fast. Anyone know who I'm talking about here?

Anyone know who I'm talking about here? Oregon LB is Kenny Rowe. http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB...;ATCLID=1149819 He's a junior, hasn't declared yet, but the fumble return was mint. Astro There is a position called DE. We have one ageing pro there and a lot of nothing else. Then we need LBs of every and any variety. Our front 7 D is awful.Williams and Stroud are fine--the least of our front 7 worries.-Altho sure we could use another DT-esp if a stud is available. And of course we need a QB and OTs.Cripe this team is a complete mess.
Lofton80
How about OT, DT and LB. It we don't take a top QB, no point in burning a #2 pick at that position. Draft big people.
bananathumb
If we go to a 3-4, we'll need McClain in first and a DT or OT close behind (whichever isn't addressed in FA).

Astro With the current team I would say option 1 is the most likely scenario right now, but depending on the coach we bring in, option 3 is possible too. However, the FA market on QBs is pretty weak vs. the rookie QB class (which isn't saying much either way) with the big names being Orton, Campbell, and Pennington.
