millbank Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 George Steinbrenner can't wait until the games start to exact his revenge against the Red Sox. The Record of Hackensack (N.J.) reported yesterday that the Yankees' owner, making a swift and bold decision, has presented a four-year, $50-million offer to Pedro Martinez, according to a major league source. He and Martinez met in Tampa on Tuesday and no one expected Steinbrenner to move so quickly and dramatically. In one stunning move, The Boss has changed the winter landscape, forcing the Red Sox to make a large counteroffer and possibly prompting the Diamondbacks to speed up the process of trading Randy Johnson. Pedro offered 50 million
BillsFanNC Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Well it's back to the Yankees of the 80's. George overpaying for stars that are past their prime.
Guest Guest Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 This is what makes baseball interesting, a team that you either love or hate.
Thailog80 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 It's the Boss committment to winning. I wish my football team had it.

Guest Guest Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 It's the Boss committment to winning. Not worth my time to watch them slug through a half a$$ed effort.
Thailog80 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Haircut time? 126756 Fifty million dollars and he can afford a nice high and tight.
Hawk Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Daddy’s revenge 126754 aka Montezuma's.. Does that mean Sox fans poop their shorts everytime Pedro takes the mound??
Thailog80 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 aka Montezuma's.. Does that mean Sox fans poop their shorts everytime Pedro takes the mound?? 126759 I still think the Yanks make an all out effort for the Big Unit.
Frez Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 How does the Salary cap in baseball work again?
Thailog80 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 How does the Salary cap in baseball work again? 126769 The Yanks sell the most caps and have the biggest salary. Thats Steinbrenners definition of Salary Cap.
millbank Posted November 21, 2004 Author Posted November 21, 2004 I still think the Yanks make an all out effort for the Big Unit. 126762 They will be , but it will be tough as St. Louis also is said to be interested.

Az would be foolish to trade him to the NL.....the fan base would be outraged seeing him throw one hitters against them four times a year for three or so more years.
kasper13 Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I can see the Yankees getting both Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson. It's all about beating the Red Sox for George, especially after the outcome of the ALCS. No way Boston offers Pedro 4/$50 mil. No way anyone else offers him that either. Here's a real possibility for Opening Day 2005. Yankees at Boston. Pedro gets his Red Sox World Series ring in Fenway wearing a Yankees Cap and the pitching matchup is Randy Johnson vs Curt Schilling. Wow.

I want Jon Leiber to be resigned. But the Yanks do need to start thinking about getting younger at the Pitchers position.

If the Yanks had anything to offer, Johnson would have been a Yank by playoff time. I heard the Cubs are looking at RJ also.
