Buddy Nix quotes....

Buddy Nix

Buddy Nix (born December 6, 1939) is currently the Director of College Scouting for the Buffalo Bills[1]. He previously was employed by the Bills from 1993-2000. From 2001 until mid 2008 he was the Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel for the San Diego Chargers. There were conflicting news reports on why Nix left. These include 1) that he had retired, and 2) that he had resigned and was open to seeking another Front Office position with another NFL team. Nix was quoted as saying that he was going to play golf, but was open to other offers from other teams.[2].

Nix was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama where he later attended Talladega High School and played linebacker and fullback at Livingston University. Nix also had a successful college football coaching career.

Nix's job with the Chargers was to oversee both pro and college scouting and to be one of the main decision makers in each NFL Draft. Nix was a major reason the Chargers turned around from a losing football team to a rebuilt, winning team.

Number of San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl Players drafted under Nix:

2004 3 Pro Bowlers

2005 6 Pro Bowlers

2006 11 Pro Bowlers

2007 8 Pro Bowlers

Nix is considered by some to be one of the top 5 talent evaluators in the NFL. The Chargers have won 4 out of the last 5 AFC West Titles with Nix as Assistant GM and Director of Player Personnel, in charge of college scouting and instrumental to the decision making process of their NFL drafts.

Nix's career has spanned from star college player and award winning college football coach, to scouting in the NFL for the Bills and finally as a Front Office Executive with the Chargers.

Nix came to the Chargers with John Butler and A. J. Smith from the Buffalo Bills where those three Front Office Executives were instrumental in building the Buffalo Bills into NFL contention through the NFL Draft.

Butler died during the Chargers rebuilding years, Smith was promoted to General Manager, and Nix to Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel.

Nix was rumoured to have been on the short list of candidates for the position of General Manager of the Atlanta Falcons, but he was not offered the position.

Why would anyone hire a guy who has drafted a dozen pro-bowlers in 8 years? IM OUTRAGED!!!!!

Its terrible, isn't it?

I wonder how many of these people would be whining if they'd have hired him as the GM last year, when he was still the assistant GM in San Diego?

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Bills have called a 2:30 p.m. news conference Thursday to announce the appointment of a new general manager.

Sources tell News 4 Sports that Buddy Nix will be named the team's new general manager.

Nix has served as the Bills national scout for the past season. He rejoined the Bills this past January, after spending several years as a football personnel executive with the San Diego Chargers.

Sources tell News 4 sports, the Bills interviewed two other in-house candidates for the job, Tom Modrak and John Guy, and settled on Nix as the GM.

The announcement is expected to be made official at 2:30.

Interviewed JOHN GUY?!?! Wow, this place would've erupted! Guy deserves to be handed walking papers, not promoted. I can live with Nix as GM. He comes from the Polian tree right? Hopefully one of the first moves Nix makes, is to find a new director of player personnel. Hand Guy his long overdue pink slip.

Sounds like he had a lot to do with the Chargers getting where they are now.

this is Nix's first year with the bills (recently)......with the exception of Maybin......this was the best draft we've had in 10 years. i would hope some reporter asks who made that pick.

Here is a tweet from Mort:

@mortreport Before Bills' fans get annoyed, understand Nix has an outstanding rep. Lot of good NFL people gave him much credit for Chargers' resurgence

Before we all go nuts here, let's throw some perspective into the mix:

Wind the clock back one calendar year...if on December 31st, 2008, the Bills called a press conference to announce that they were naming Chargers' Director of College Scouting/Assistant GM Buddy Nix, a guy that worked hand-in-hand with both John Butler and A.J. Smith in Buffalo and San Diego, as the new General Manager, how would you feel?

I know I'd be okay with it, what about you guys?

doesnt sound too bad to me. at least he is a FOOTBALL guy not a MARKETING guy.

and those who say they arent going to renew their tickets will renew once they announce the HC... or they'll just do it quietly but say they didnt because, you know, its all for the principle of the thing...
