CosmicBills Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 From ESPN INSIDER and the Boston Globe: "The RedSox have sweetened their offer to Pedro, who wants a deal that effectively guarantees him at least 40 mill over 3 years, the BG reported. With Pedro intent on securing the third guaranteed year, the Sox altered their proposal to make the total 40.5 million vaule of the deal more eaily attainable. According to ESPN.Com's Jayson Stark, pretty much everyone in the Yankees organization believes Martinez's meeting with owner George Steinbrenner on Nov 16th was a mutual leverage ploy: Pedro trying to drive up his price and Steinbrenner trying to get the Diamondbacks to move on trading Randy Johnson. One baseball man said Pedro 'gave a sales pitch,' while George mostly 'just listened." I guess Theo blinked first.
