BLZFAN4LIFE Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Iranian protests State television reported Monday that at least 15 people have been killed in the protests. Video I included the video because it's important to see the heartless and passionless manner in which our commander in chief delivers his lip service. Here's the text with my comments in blue. Before I leave, let me also briefly (briefly? Oh absolutely, sorry you had to be pulled off of the Hawaiian links over such trivial matters as an "isolated extremest" attempting to blow up an airliner on Christmas and innocent civilian protesters being gunned down by their own government in the streets of Teheran) address the events that have taken place over the last few days in the Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran would suffice, we realize they're Islamic.). The United States joins with the international community (I'm so glad that we are joiners God forbid we act like leaders and do anything unilaterally) in strongly condemning (We have verbal condemnation, and that is a good thing. ) the violent and unjust suppression of innocent Iranian citizens, which has apparently resulted in detentions, injuries, and even death. For months, the Iranian people have sought nothing more than to exercise their universal rights. Each time they have done so, they have been met with the iron fist of brutality, even on solemn occasions and holy days.(Yeah, if you're going to kill freedom loving citizens in the streets, it's much more appropriate to do it on an average weekday.)And each time that has happened, the world has watched with deep admiration for the courage and the conviction of the Iranian people who are part of Iran's great and enduring civilization. (We're getting very civilized video footage out of Iran these days but very polite of you to pay the country a compliment.) What's taking place within Iran is not about the United States or any other country.(It's not? Is that what Ronald Reagan would say or even Bush 1 or 2?) It's about the Iranian people and their aspirations for justice and a better life for themselves. And the decision of Iran's leaders to govern through fear and tyranny will not succeed in making those aspirations go away. As I said in Oslo, it's telling when governments fear the aspirations of their own people more than the power of any other nation. (You're no JFK buddy.) Along with all free nations, the United States stands with those who seek their universal rights. We call upon the Iranian government to abide by the international obligations (like discontinuing their uranium enrichment and missile test firings?) that it has to respect the rights of its own people. (Or what???) We call for the immediate release of all who have been unjustly detained within Iran. We will continue to bear witness to the extraordinary events that are taking place there.(Now that may be the first honest statement to come out of your mouth in the past two years. I firmly believe that all you will do is stand back and watch.) And I'm confident that history will be on the side of those who seek justice. (There you have it, fight the power people, die in the streets, and history will be on your side. Move along, nothing to see here.) What weak comments by a very weak and small man. This guy wouldn't recognize an opportunity for true greatness if it slapped him in the face.
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 How very liberal of you. I'm sure that you approve of weakness as a foreign policy strategy.

The Big Cat Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 How very liberal of you. I'm sure that you approve of weakness as a foreign policy strategy. You're right, just like all my tree-huggin, gays-lovin, Master's holdin pusy friends, I think we should be weak on foreign policy. Unlike your totally objective interpretation of Obama's comments, I read them with a preconceived notion of whether or not I would accept what he had to say. Obama can do no wrong, I latch on to each of his words like they were gospel. You should try taking a side, for once.
UConn James Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 and innocent civilian protesters being gunned down by their own government in the streets of Teheran) To be pretty clear, Iran doesn't have a representative government anymore (if they ever did). They have the Revolutionary Guard. And throwing rocks against machine guns and tanks, is yet another example of why any truly free people must have the individual right to bear arms, and exercise that right. Not sure what is meant by "opportunity for true greatness." The U.S. is in no kind of position to threaten much of anything. If you're talking toughening sanctions more, they'll just crack down even harder, moderates will hate us, and it'll drive them full-bore into their nuclear activity. Military action is just about impossible. It's sad to have to watch, but it's how their country is run. Can only hope that someone pops Kohmeni and Amadinejad.

The Big Cat Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I think he did. Just not your side. Ah, you've seen my sarcasm, and now you raise. Mmmm, yes.
ieatcrayonz Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Dude...get a life. Tell that to the Iranian protestor with his head rolling down a flight of stairs.
PastaJoe Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 And throwing rocks against machine guns and tanks, is yet another example of why any truly free people must have the individual right to bear arms, and exercise that right. I think Ghandi would have disagreed, given that India is now the world's largest democracy. And I don't recall citizens taking to the streets with guns in Eastern Europe in the 80s. In the past century, those groups that took up arms against their gov't ended up just replacing one form of oppression with another, as in Cuba and China. I doubt those in America who stockpile weapons because they're afraid of this "socialist" president would be very tolerant of those that differ with their views if they were in power. And they wouldn't leave it up to the voters to decide. The 1984 scenario.

It's a good thing that it is not rolling down a flight of stairs or imprinted with treadmarks from a tank.
IDBillzFan Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Ah, you've seen my sarcasm, and now you raise. Mmmm, yes. It's amazing how quickly your act has become predictable. Step 1: Jump into a thread that criticizes Obama and immediaately tell the thread starter to "get a life." Step 2. When they're dumb enough to argue with you based on an assumption of your intent, tell them they have no idea how you feel or what you meant, and take credit for being right because it actually IS impossible for them to know what you meant when it's pretty clear you have no idea, either. Step 3. Say something stupid to someone offering an opinion, like "You should try taking a side, for once." Step 4. Easily get called out on the stupid comment. Step 5. Rebut any criticism of your stupid comment by suggesting you were actually trying to be either funny or sarcastic. Step 6. Disappear for a week or so. Step 7. Return. Step 8. Find someone who is criticizing Obama. Step 9. See Step 1.
DC Tom Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Dude...get a life. I hate to agree with you...but I agree. His statements aren't fundamentally different in content from Bush's. The only complaint about that I might agree with is specifying "we join the international community in...", just because it's irrelevent and superfluous kissy-face diplomacy aimed at the rest of the world, and not germane to the topic.

The Big Cat Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I hate to agree with you...but I agree. Oh, don't be such a sour puss.

uncle_chappy Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 you know i would say this was "obama's katrina moment" if that concept wasn't already completely redundant by now.

See, LA, this is how it works. What you read above is an incredibly stupid and reactionary criticism to the politician the poster didn't vote for. You accuse me of stupidity, but then sit idle while insanely melodramatic comments like this float around and cheapen the discussion. But, since this place is a conservative love-fest, and since you don't want to disagree with him, you let it slide. Enter, The Big Cat.
