Fingon Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 yeah...that is just STUPID. even if he was faking it and causing trouble on the team, you just gave the kid the moral high ground. dumb dumb dumb. Not to mention exposing himself and the university to a large amount of liability.
The Senator Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Confining a kid with a concussion to an equipment shed, for one. Ah...obviously you are intimately familiar with the real facts of the case, and must be referring to this equipment 'shed' and 'electrical closet'... Video - Tour of 'Shed' & 'Electrical Closet' in question with Leach's Attorney ...which the kid's own doctor claims was better for him than being on the practice field. Or was there some other 'morally egregious action' on Leach's part that you'd care to throw out there??? This is clearly a case of a spoiled kid who had been disciplined previously and didn't like it, now being embarrassed and crying to daddy. That's all it is. Period. Kid was a punk, disliked by teammates and coaches alike... According to emails received by CBSsports.com, Leach gave James a scholarship above the objections of his assistants. However, James was considered a bad influence by some teammates. Eric Morris, who played the same position as James for two seasons, described the player like this: "Ever since the day he arrived on the Texas Tech campus you couldn't help but to feel a negative energy from him. He expected people to baby him and that he was going make it solely on the fact that his father was a very successful player." Current receivers coach Lincoln Riley, James' position coach, claimed the player "undermined my authority on many occasions." Link - Texas Tech players and coaches shed light on Leach and James

Link - Texas Tech players and coaches shed light on Leach and James Yes, leaving a player who had just suffered a concussion unsupervised in a dark room is completely acceptable. What if James had passed out and hit his head? Leach would be liable criminally and civilly, and the university would likely have had to pay a large amount of damages to James.
buffaloaggie Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Well, at least you concede that is was indeed a glorious run for Leach at TTU! And you will marvel at The Senator's prescience when ML prevails in the certain ensuing legal entanglements. Myers and this unwitting, spoiled, rich punk have set TTU's program back decades. I would HATE to be Adam James right now. Gotta admit, hough, I never expected this kind of pettiness and vindictiveness from Gerald Myers, and you will surely concede that no one could have expected a spoiled kid's cry's to daddy to derail Leach's career. But you gotta focus on the future, KD. A door closes, a window opens. In fact, there's a few windows open right here in The BuffTown! Has anyone on this board considered that Tech would not open themselves up to a lawsuit unless they had solid facts? Leach's lawyer seems to be scrambling to spin this in the media. I can hardly believe that Craig James wields such clout that just because he is behind this, he has the power to oust Leach based on hearsay. If Myers and Leach were so tight, do you honestly think he would dismiss Leach without good cause? Would the TT President cave to Craig James? Get real. No one on this board has any reliable information other than what is written and discussed on various websites. It is pretty much second hand information, possibly unreliable information that can be spun whichever way. I for one will let it play out, but it does not bode well for Leach.
The Senator Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Not to mention exposing himself and the university to a large amount of liability. Correction - it is Craig James, his whiney wuss of a son Adam, and TTU AD Gerlad Myer that have exposed themselves and the school to massive financial liability - to... Mike Leach

kota Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Everyone is missing the point on this situation. Mike Leach is stupid and doesn't deserve to be a head coach of a University. I don't know hte facts of the case that much but i do know that Mike Leach hasn't denied the accussation. He only said "He didn't break any University Rules." The kid sounds like a ahole. Mike Leach as a HC needs to be a leader of men and take the high road. It sounds like he went down to the same level as this Adams guy. He also didn't take the high road in his statements and is defiant. It's my opinion that Mike Leach needs to grow up some. If he has issues with the kid and actually cared about this players well being he could either suspend him or send him home with an escort or at least send him to the hospital to have a CAT scan. Instead he chose a equipment shed.

Yeah, sure...and Adam James concussion miraculously healed on the flight to the Alamo Bowl, too! "The more information that comes out, the more it looks like the James family has vastly overstated the facts. Many people in Lubbock would go so far as to say Adam and Craig James have lied. Let's see, the "shed" turns out to be a garage, the "electrical closet" turns out to be the visiting coaches media room. This is the same room that Mack Brown and Bob Stoops would use when they visit Tech. Also the "guards" have turned out to be athletic trainers with instructions to check on Adam James regularly." Link - Adam James is now the most hated man in Lubbock Stories are now beginning to surface that Leach blocked James transfer to SMU, and young Adam was 'hiding behind a doctor's letter' in order to keep his scholarship while daddy - former Patriettes* panty-waist and SMU program-killer Craig James - went to work on Leach in retaliation. This will drag out for a while, but Myer has effectively ruined TTU's program for years to come. (And I KNOW you're ecstatic about that, aggie!)
Cash Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Kid looks like Billy Zabka. Makes it easy for me to figure out which side I'm on. Bring Leach to Buffalo!

Instead he chose a equipment shed. See above story and video of alleged 'shed' and alleged 'electrical closet'. Regarding a CAT scan, wouldn't it be up to the licensed physician who examined Adam James to recommend a CAT scan, pupil measurements, and any other diagnostic procedures if he suspected something more than what he called, "possibly a slight concussion", instead of just sending young Adam home with a note from his doctor? This is nothing more than a spoiled, unlikeable punk kid and his ego-stricken daddy trying to get even with Leach for previous perceived slights, and that's what will come out in court.
John Cocktosten Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Now that Leach has gotten his ass fired maybe he can finally move in with The Senator and they can spend New Years eve spooning. Post of the year! Leach getting fired is so perfect. The Senator should change his name to The Cable Guy...no if, ands or butts.....BIG ONES!!!!!

Leach is an employee of a major university, leaving a brain injured player in any room for any period of time unsupervised (apparently they were checking on him every 15 min) is putting the university at risk for liability should anything happen to that player accidently or intentionally. what if he passed out and hit his head again or hung himself.....again, the university did the right thing to fire him......they are just going to have to pay him.

This will drag out for a while, but Myer has effectively ruined TTU's program for years to come. (And I KNOW you're ecstatic about that, aggie!) You don't address my main point, why would Texas Tech and Gerald Myers cave to Craig James and open themselves up to a termination without cause lawsuit based on hearsay? Could you be insinuating that ESPN is behind a Leach witch hunt since it seems that ESPN is the only player in this scenario that carries that much weight? This whole thing honestly doesn't make sense if it is only the James clan against Leach and TTU if they are taking Craig and Adam James' word only. There has to be corroborating evidence that TTU is not revealing that is pretty solid. Absolutely, it will eventually play out in court. IMO, it just shows that Leach was sick of dealing with a spoiled brat. Rather than have him sent to a trainer or doctor to see how to best handle this, he had to try to embarrass the kid. It is not a question of a spoiled kid's actions, it is a question of a stupid move on Leach's part without involving his medical staff. Personally if I had been Leach, I would have told James to go home if Leach thought he was faking or overstating his condition. The question that will be asked to Leach in court will be did you consult a medical staffer before doing this? The correct answer is no, and he was trying to embarrass James. Will he say that? Obviously, no. This could have probably been handled with an apology, but Leach's ego prevented him from taking the high road, and it cost him his job.

But, given that this is Texas, and any jury will be full of these types, maybe Leach would have a chance in a suit.... I could watch this guy struggle to speak for hours!

First of all, it'd be a HUGE HUGE mistake to judge - or UNDERESTIMATE - the abilities of the 'old country lawyer' based on their appearance, and that's just what they want you to do. (Ever hear of Gerry Spence?) Second, for some inexplicable reason you choose to ignore multiple reitirations that the kid was cleared for practice by his doctor and Leach HAD THREE LICENSED PHYSICAL TRAINERS checking on him at regular intervals. Third, and in response to your bizarre and ridiculous question, "What if he hung himself?", well I guess Leach would be coaching this Saturday in the Alamo Bowl! But trust me, Adam James is 100% healthy and loves himself way too much to commit suicide - OTOH, he may get some help in that area from the TTU squad and student body.
buffaloaggie Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Funny, Tech players that were there at practice had this to say: "I have no complaints about this decision. [Leach] put Adam [James] in a shed like an animal. Like an animal in a cage. That was bull," defensive lineman Chris Perry. "You call other players. I think it was a good decision. We have our pep back now. We practice hard this week. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he's gone." Said cornerback Taylor Charbonnet: "The players make this team, not one coach. As Adam's friend, I didn't like it at all what [Leach] did. He was my brother and I didn't agree with it. I don't know why [Leach] did that. But I know we our fully behind [interim] coach Ruffin [McNeil]. We love him and support him." I guess this is a little bit of the testimony that Tech based their firing of Leach on.

jester43 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 yeah, nobody wants to be treated like that, and no one wants to see their teammate humiliated like that. some of these good old boys don't understand that woody hayes has been dead and buried for a long time now. what a freaking idiot. i want him nowhere near the bills.
