It's the structure...

Ron Wolf gets it:

"...In Green Bay, Wolf had complete autonomy and reported to nobody but the club president, who acted as the owner in the unique structure of the community-owned Packers. Holmgren said the attraction in Cleveland is that he will have "no layers" between himself and the owner.

"You can't imagine [what a benefit that is]," Wolf said. "In this job, every day there's a situation that comes up that you have to respond to before you lose the moment. You don't want to have to make phone calls or pull out the BlackBerry.

"You may have five minutes to make a decision on a trade or a signing. Sometimes that's all you've got. And if you make a bad decision, there's only one person to blame -- yourself."

Someone needs to be "The Man." Unfortunately, Ralph can't be it. So again Ralph, time to hand over the reigns to a guys who knows what he's doing..."

Cale, I think this is what swayed Shanahan, Holmgren, and everyone else away from the Bills.

Methinks a certain overlord of the Bills purse strings by the name of Jim Overdorf is the organizational obstacle Wolf was referencing.

Perhaps if by "major change" Ralph also means installing a true football department subservient only to the owner, then our fortunes will change.

Ralph has already shown he was willing to do this when he put Donahoe in charge, and when that ended up blowing up in the teams face, he steppedback in and took control back because of the mess his team became. Now, it looks like he is trying to dothat again as he has made it clear they are looking for a "football Guy" to be in charge, i.e. the search for a GM

Unfortunatly, for most, whatever the choice is, it won't be good enough for the fans and there will always be someone else out there better

Ralph needs to stfu and just write the checks the GM asks him for. then show up on sundays, sit in his luxury box and enjoy the game like everyone else.

The Sooner Ralph hires a damn good GM, hands him the reigns and gets the !@#$ out of the way, the sooner we turn this around

I actually think it might be Jeff Littman. Notice he's very quiet until there's something of real substance from the organization. Either way, I agree. The tail is wagging the dog...
