Chuckknox
No need to out smart the experts, just follow their advice and we would have a MUCH better team. Stop the 'surprise picks' (Whitner, Mahem, etc..) pick who they think you should take and they will be better off. Just look at the last 5 years and see who the experts 'told ' the Bills to take vs. who they take. The experts hit on some good pick.

Heels20X6
I am pretty sure none of them told the Bills to take Jairus Byrd either... Batting 1 for 100 doesn't mean these guys are smart...it means they lucked out with one pick. Bills drafting is how this team is a perrenial mess. Brand J
I think we should have everyone that we can on this message board during draft day, day one. When the Bills selection comes up, we can assemble a list of available players and make a poll. As a group, we vote on the player that we think the FO should select. That way, if the player fails, we'd only have ourselves to blame, haha. There are many busted picks that never would have been a part of this team, had this strategy actually been implemented - RT Mike Williams, WR Roscoe Parrish, S Donte Whitner, DE/LB Aaron Maybin, QB JP Losman, and DT John McCargo to name a few... You know you are on to something there. If I was drafting for the Bills I know none of these busts would have been drafted by me or by most Bills fans. It's pathetic, but Bills fans probably know more then the pathetic scout team we've been relying on.

But, for every Byrd....you get a Lonnie Johnson, Bucky Brooks, Erik Flowers, J.P., Tim Anderson, McCargo, Mike Williams...

San-O
actually they are excellent with DB's...its just all the other positions that suck o George Wilson wasn't drafted as a DB, wasn't drafted at all I think. A converted WR. o Terrence McGee was drafted by Buffalo in 2003. Back in the Ol' Whitey era. o Drayton Florence wasn't drafted by Buffalo, a FA pickup this year. Glad they did. o Jairus Byrd drafted this year, a rookie, knocking D. Whitner a 1st round pick down the depth chart. You have any idea how many DBs the Bills have selected since Marv and Jauron came in?

Drafted: Whitner, Youboty, Simpson, Wendling, McKelvin, Corner, Cox, Byrd, C. Harris, Lankster UFA's: Bowen, K. Thomas, J. Webster, W. James, Florence All this for a team that inherited Clements, Greer, McGee, Leonhard, and G. Wilson. Picks were: 2 firsts, 1 second, and 1 third. That's a lot for a team that can't stop the run, run block, or score points. Dick Levy at their finest.

billsfan89
Other then the 2006 draft and the Maybin pick this season the Bills haven't gone against draft experts like Kiper that often. In 2007 the guy we were picked to draft was Willis if available or Lynch as the backup. Willis was taken and we got Lynch who has pro bowl talent the experts also loved the Poz pick which when healthy he is a good player. In 2008 we were pegged to take McKelvin (Who was the best corner in the draft) because the Wide reciver crop was very weak and going into that year and other needs weren't quite there either. Experts also were fond of the Hardy pick. In 2009 we went with Maybin over Orakpo it was a mixed pick with a few experts thinking it was smart and others thinking we were stupid. Wood was viewed as a decent pick while Byrd was looked at as a horrid pick. Levitre was looked at as a good pick. So we went relatively with the experts in 2009 on 3 out of our 4 picks and the one where we went against the grain turned out to be a great pickup. Now don't get me wrong the 2006 draft was viewed as horrid and it was. We should have bulked up our trenches with Nagta and Mangold. Although we did get more then serviceable players late in the draft with Kyle Williams and Brad Butler.

Sisyphean Bills
The trouble with the McKelvin pick wasn't McKelvin as a player. The trouble with that pick was that Ryan Clady was still on the board and if the Bills really had issues with their LT and his contract demands, they should have been proactive about it. Further, the pick of a CB given their defensive scheme was more of a luxury item. Greer proved he was up to the job and they took a swarm of CBs in the later rounds to develop for the nickel and dime. And, before we go off and say Greer was "for sure" a goner, the Bills tried to keep him and offered him a decent but somewhat lower than market contract. He would've stayed if they had ponied up, but they no doubt felt they didn't have to be too competitive because they had drafted McKelvin. So, they chose a CB despite it being a position of relative strength, despite other needs, despite their defensive philosophy, and despite a deteriorating contract situation they apparently thought they could hard-ball their way through. In 20/20 hindsight, the move was just another mistake and it didn't make the team better.
