Term Limits

I'm not sure that this is what the founding fathers had in mind when creating our governmental system. We have so many "lifers" either in Congress or the Senate that it's beginning to feel more like the British monarchy that they hated so much. We have Robert Byrd who will be celebrating 50 years next month in the Senate. We also have John Dingell who has spent 54 years in Congress in a seat he took over after the death of his father. So it's a seat occupied by either him or his father for the past 75 years. Sounds very similar to the Royal family. The original plan by the founding fathers was to serve briefly and then go back to the farm, family business, law firm etc. I say it's time for Congressional term limits and let's start by kicking them all out.

Biggest reason in my mind why this country has become so !@#$ed up. They're all trying to protect their phoney-baloney jobs.

That's what I tolk my wife that even though it sucks balls there's not a whole lot we can do. Her respone was "we're the only ones that can". Baby steps. There is a petition going around here in CA to turn our legislature to part time. If they get enough signatures it goes on the ballot and if gets on the ballot it has a great chance of passing. It's got a great head of steam right now and if we can do that it may just solve our fiscal problems here.
