Chef Jim Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 You suggest that annoying people live elsewhere? How could this be? WNYers move.
BuffaloBill Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 WNYers move. Touche but you are getting personal now.
evilcape Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 My boys were forced to park next to a crew It's an age thing... You are obviously getting older, and with getting older comes certain resentments of youth. I am not condoning the actions of today's youth, but this "crew" was what young people are doing...they are young, a little crazy, have been partying all weekend....I don't know about you, but I can relate. I have gotten older, and used my semester at ECC and now have a job in management at a 9-5, and a mortgage, and a son, with another on the way...Ob la di, Ob la da. I am 30. I listen to hip hop, and whether it is Bob Dylan, Jay-Z, or Charles Mingus, I play it loud. You can almost assure that I will be listening to something a little loud on gameday... I wouldn't blast you for listening to Genesis (Phil Collins era) or your favorite Yes album...it's your thing, do what you want to do. I do not have a chinstrap beard, just a full manly sort of beard, but I do have a Lynch jersey, actually two. They go with my 2 Poz, Whitner, Edwards, Milloy, 2 Kelly, Thomas, B. Smith, TO, 2 Lee, Jackson and Maybin jerseys. I could wear my Lacoste or Polo to the Ralph, but it is a football game, so I go for a jersey. Funnels beers.... Now, I personally don't drink....this makes some of the obnoxious drunks more obnoxious, but it's their thing.... as much as you would like to think that crew wanted to "hang" with you...probably not. They were partying with their friends...I am sure somebody had to have partied at Yale when you were there. You did say that they were in their early 20's, and while they may not be as sophisticated as you were in your 20's, I for one find it refreshing that the youth is into the Bills. The Ralph is not an exclusive club, and when it is, it will lose it's charm. You could go to the Yacht club, sip on an aged scoth eat some humus, all while enjoying the game in a quiet, sophisticated, smoke free environment. The best part is, they can charge you as much as you would like!!!! I think the Bills being such an integrated part of the community is great. Even as I get older, and realize I am not going to bring my 2 year old to a game for quite a while, I think it is nice to see youth embracing the Bills. It would be a lot easier to like the Pats* or Steelers or whatever, especially in this age of information, where you can watch all the games anywhere, but they suffer with us... At the end of the day, if you're a Bills fan, we are on the same team. I am in Erie, and the Bills following here has all but disappeared. We need to stick together, not get petty. If raising the price of tickets helps us get better players, let's do it, but if you think $10-$20/ ticket keeps out the youth, rething this plan. Also realize what it would do to the displaced worker who is your age, or older, that once was firmly entrenched int he middle class, that has been laid off, and now one of their only joys is putting on their Zubaz and coming to the Ralph.... I am sure you will bash this post, as that is where you are coming from. I hope that you at least take one second and realize YOU were kind of being the d-bag here... I am sure you wouldn't admit it, but I hope for 1 second this message reaches you up there in your perch above all of the commoners... Thanks for your time, I know it is valuable, and I am flattered that you could check into TBD between phone calls from The President, and The Pope. LOL! BRAVO! one hell of a hilarious post!
Chef Jim Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Pot, meet chef. My first respones was: I have a mirror.
Astrojanitor Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I live out of town and I go to a few games a year (I'm going on Sunday), but my brothers and a bunch of my friends have seasons and I enjoy hearing their stories of a particular type of fan. How prevalent is the following type of dude at the stadium: Either a McGahee or a Lynch jersey chinstrap beard smokes cigarettes (probably menthols) early 20's rolls up in a crew of similar dudes and blasts R&B out of an SUV funnels beers maybe pukes talks s*** to opposing fans and willing to fight, but couldn't tell you anything about the Bills pre-Bledsoe Folks, are Bills tickets too cheap? These Buffalo lifers who went to ECC for a semester before retiring the books for good and work at a hardware store in Lancaster, while living with their parents and crashing high school parties on the weekends should not be able to afford season tickets in an NFL city. If the Bills are going to stay here, we have to show that we can sell out even if tickets aren't by far the cheapest in the league. Side note: My boys were forced to park next to a crew like this at the Miami game and they immediately pulled back out of the parking lot and told the guy to park them somewhere else and he said they couldn't do that. Then my brother said, look at these d-bags, we're not parking next to them for the next four hours and the attendant looked at them and said, OK you may have a point and moved them. you can never price the douche bags out...just end up with richer jerks
BADOLBILZ Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Time has passed me by? So if you were parked next to a group of kids crankin R&B loud, you would be cool with them? It's funny that you are so aghast about R&B being cranked instead of your preferred Van Halen. The correct tailgate music is no music. Music alienates, and at a good tailgate everyone is there to enjoy their common interest. Football. And if you can't have a good time at a tailgate without the music, you are trying too hard.
Offside Number 76 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Dude, you have the wrong idea- I wasn't condemning partying, but there is a respectful way to do it. You think I'm not getting absolutely destroyed on Sunday? Crank some VH, hook up a nice grill scene and do it right. If an opposing fan walks by, if you're gonna call him out, you better be ready to back it up (ie. I saw Bruce Smith knock out Bledsoe in his first game). I am also 30, and when I was a kid, you had the dudes in stone-washed jeans, maybe zubas, mustaches and mullets, getting wasted and crankin classic rock. That's cool. If you don't see the distinction between that and what I'm talking about, I don't know what to tell ya. No it isn't. Having a few drinks and "hooking up a nice grill scene" is, though. I can't stand people who are wasted at games, no matter what they look like or what they're listening to. There are too many fans for whom the game is ancillary to the alcohol.

please stop the pain Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Former season ticket holder. Tailgated. Drank. Had mullet. Cranked punk. Intoxicated generally. Never puked. Never attacked anyone. Always insisted that if we brought the opposing team fan that they were only to be abused by us; their friends. (to this day don't understand why the hell Rick liked the friggin fish, but he's a good fishing buddy....but i digress) There were A-holes then who pushed too far. Never appreciated having to deal with their crap, can't say I'd enjoy it any more now. Rather sure some people didn't like punk, rockabilly and garage, but loud music is part of the scene. we'd get to the lot around 8:30 or so to establish the beachhead and set up. Pick your spot to party. Be reasonable and play nice with others. Go in the game nicely lubricated and make a crapload of noise. Don't spill beer on people, never get so drunk you puke or pass out(-5 F is too cold for that crap), and for christ sakes don't be an a-hole around people's kids Ramble complete.

You wouldn't think that would be to much to expect would you. And most people act this way. Unfortunately not everyone.
BADOLBILZ Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I'm not a fan of music at a tailgate either. Pre-game shows or nothing IMO. I think Metzelaars might not be aware that he and his buddies are probably just another man's douchebags. I actually like music enough that I can enjoy pretty much anything that is played at a Bills game, but I do understand that blaring music bothers some people and that's not the objective of the tailgate. Metzelaars should be able to recognize that.
Chef Jim Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Well put. You wouldn't think that would be to much to expect would you. And most people act this way. Unfortunately not everyone. Hell I've had people that I considered !@#$s around me at the symphony. !@#$heads spill champagne and caviar all over my Pierre Cardin suit.

DO THAT IN YOUR OWN FREAKING PLACE! talks s*** to opposing fans and willing to fight, but couldn't tell you anything about the Bills pre-Bledsoe; MOCK THEM A LITTLE Folks, are Bills tickets too cheap? HOWEVER in your time i am pretty sure u yourself went overboard too. my advice, ignore it, anddo like your boys, switch spots.
Clippers of Nfl Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I'm not a fan of music at a tailgate either. Pre-game shows or nothing IMO. some prefer tvs and grills. i prefer music and grills. its basically common sense and courtesy. dont blast it enough to bother others.

Bills tickets can go up another $15-20 bucks, and we'd still sell out. If we have condo's selling for over $1mil in this city now, we certainly have enough people able to spend 60-70 on a Bills game. This is obvious because we can spend that much on sabres games... real quick and extra $20 per ticket would give you roughly $8.4mil per year - say 60,000 tickets (excluding suites, i think those are as high as tehy can go) at a $20 increase for 7 games... well there's your money to pay jason peters...

In addition we could have avoided that whole Toronto fiasco if we had simply done this. We still should be trying to sell the naming rights to the stadium too. An extra $2-3mil per year is the difference between a guy like Adalius Thomas and Kawikaa Mitchell (thomas is hte better player, even if he is in Bellicheat's dog house).
BillsfaninFl Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Folks, are Bills tickets too cheap? I started a post on this several weeks ago. Almost all of the respondents said they would be willing to pay higher prices in return for an improved team to watch. I mentioned $20 a ticket and no one howled about it. But I never thought the reason for such an increase should be to drive away raucous fans. I was thinking only in terms of providing more capital for the team to hire top management and coaching talent, and perhaps pay for that special free agent who comes along. Yes, I didn't like it when at times when I brought my young son to a game and some jerk was shouting obscenities from the seat behind us, or other annoying situations. But it's a football game, and I knew what to expect before I decided to bring my son. We all know that if you go to an NFL game, there will be the full spectrum of behavior by those attending. And while some of it is annoying, the whole point of going is to immerse yourself in the crazy, chaotic experience. To enjoy (not just three, but) several hours of wildness that will give you a few laughs, make you forget your troubles and even add a few memories that will become stories told again and again. The game is part of it, but so are those fans who you think should be driven away. Sorry, but I cannot agree with you.
