billsfan89 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 no votes for 'The Hangover'? I put it in my honorable mention list for Comedies but thought that the 40 year old Virgin was a bit funnier and had a lot more character development and a really interesting message (Maybe I am reading too much into the movie). Yeah the Hangover definitely deserves a shoutout.
Delete This Account Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 biggest disappointment: tie: "juno" and "there will be dull," which is more notoriously known as "there will be dull." damn, can't stop writing that. "blood," dammit, "there will be (dull) blood" two god-awful movies, both involving two very overactive actors, who absolutely knew nothing about nuance, and two directors who couldn't control their precocious divas. jw ADD: and far too many blowhard critics, who fell over themselves in an attempt to show how freakin' out it they were, aka dull.

Peevo Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Liked the above mentioning of StarDust. Honestly one of the best movies of 2007 that fell completely through the cracks. Funny, smart and well produced and well acted. I liked Crash a lot as well. Good Night and Good Luck was still the better 2005 Best Picture Nominee in my opinion

Funny, smart and well produced and well acted. I thought Michelle Pfeiffer did a fine acting job. 2005's Joyeux Noel is one to look for... http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,1787136,00.html
linksfiend Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Comedy - Talledega NightsRomantic Comedy - Failure to Launch Super Hero Movie = Dark Knight Action Movie = 3:10 to Yuma Horror = don't watch 'em Documentary = Tyson Animated Film = Clone Wars Drama = The Departed/Gran Torino (tie) Overall = Gran Torino Biggest Disappointment: Cloverfield (sorry Tgreg) I going to have to challenge this. How can Gran Torino be your best overall selection but only tie in it's genre?
Bullpen Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I going to have to challenge this. How can Gran Torino be your best overall selection but only tie in it's genre? Because it is... Really man, there's nothing here to "challenge" it's just an oversight on my part when I made the post.
linksfiend Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Because it is... If that question wasn't clear enough then let me elaborate: wouldn't the best overall have to win within its' own genre also? If GT can't beat out The Departed in its' own genre, why does it beat it out for overall?
linksfiend Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Because it is... Really man, there's nothing here to "challenge" it's just an oversight on my part when I made the post. Got it.

GOBILLS78 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 You've all made some solid picks. I just want to add one thing. It's a bit surprising nobody has mentioned "Man On Wire" in the documentary category. Not even honorable mention?
BillsWatch Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Not going to align with everyone else but ... Comedy - The Replacements (2000) Romantic Comedy - 50 First Dates (2004) Super Hero Movie = Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) Action Movie = Sin City (2005) Animated Film = Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) Horror = Grindhouse (2007) Fantasy = Stardust (2007) Drama = LotR Trilogy Biggest Disappointment = The Matrix Reloaded (2003) Overall = LotR Trilogy I would have substituted a couple of foreign films but this seems to be a North American List.

Surprised you picked Grindhouse, I was disappointed in that film. Was Justice League: The New Frontier released in theatres? You can put foreign movies in your list, I picked "Let the Right One In" & "Night Watch" on mine.

KD in CA Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Sports Flick- Remember the Titans Good category; bad choice IMO. That movie was so trite and preachy I couldn't even sit through it the 2d time I watched it. Friday Night Lights was much better.
