PushthePile Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 I agree except for two points: TO is no longer an elite WR---by his own choice. There are many more hungrier, more talented young WRs coming up who don't take plays off, who don't act the fool, who are in as good shape as TO. Many here have assumed that TO is always open and our crappy QBs just can't get him the ball. But the truth is that he has been shut down on more than one occasion by single coverage. He has had no effect on our passing offense (despite all manner of grandiose predictions preseason)---still 29th passing. His only significant accomplishment in Buffalo has been to somehow pry $6.5 million from Ralph's arthritic pincers. Philly is not going to the SB with McNabb again. That already happened once. How does he get by either NO or Minn, two far better teams with better QBs? They have 2 quality wins (both against the struggling Giants), lost to Oakland and squeaked by Wash and Chicago. Don't see it happening. -That made me laugh. I just think TO could have had a very good season in another situation. You are probably right on the "elite" label. -NO barely squeaked by Wash, Miami, and the Chris Redman led Falcons. Minnesota has shown they are more than capable of being beat. In fact, Childress has had plenty of shaky moments in big games. I just have a hunch that if anyone could pull an upset, it would be Philly.
Red Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Living in the DC area, I get to see alot of Jason Campbell. I will admit that he has been looking better- but that only started once the offense was taken away from Zorn and given to Sherm Lewis. Once Lewis arrived, the Redskin offense is crisp, efficient, and it has those traits of the old dominant teams of the 80's and 90's in the NFC- building a strategy and offensive flow based on what works and what is available from a defense and then using misdirections, roll-outs, bootlegs, play fakes, etc to control the flow. Prior to Lewis, Campbell was looking terrible. Losman-esque.
Red Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Bills need a GM and a pro personnel department. Then, I don't care who the coach is.

Prior to Lewis, Campbell was looking terrible. Losman-esque. I like you am in the DC area and go to frequent Redskin games. Fans are totally disappointed at the way he consistantly misses open receivers. After three years the last two weeks have been good because they are focused on running the ball. Keep in mind the Redskins went 2 years with out scoring 30 points in a game. This was largely due to his inabilities at QB. He is very slow to read defenses and still learning to put touch on the ball....It was very disappointing seeing him struggle against Detroit, KC, Carolina, St Louis, Tampa all of whom were winless. Tough watching him consistantly fumble or throw the picks.....He has single handedly cost Zorn his job....Bad move, he is a coach killer.
billsfreak Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 -The Bills should think about going after Jason Campbell. I'm being serious too. He is the best QB that will be available in free agency this offseason. He is still young enough to have a fraction of upside but experienced enough to be an immediate starter. I have no illusions that Campbell is the future of the Bills but he could be a decent stopgap. I know all about his struggles but he has looked better at times this season. He is also experienced at playing behind a terrible o-line, with terrible coaching, and terrible weapons. Sounds perfect! Bring in Campbell, a rookie, Edwards, Fitzy, and Brohm to compete at training camp. Before you say no, review the other options. Pennington's career is a ? -Terrell Owens hasn't lost a step, he isn't washed up, and he isn't dogging it on the field. When given the opportunity to showcase his abilities here, he has shown every bit of explosiveness he has always had. The guy is still a freak and rabid about his conditioning. In open space he is difficult to tackle and still breaks away from defenders with speed. Obviously his hands are suspect at times but that's nothing new. Our only elite player. He could have had a TO type season. -The Patsies won't win the AFC east next year. That defense is in a shambles. They can't get to the QB and the secondary is terrible. I have a strange feeling Randy Moss is not through being a distraction either. Couldn't happen to a better team. -The Philadelphia Eagles are going to the superbowl. Just calling my shot early! It's all about how you perform under pressure and Mcnabbs healthy. They are a team that plays to the level of their competition. It isn't a good trait but it works in the postseason. -I don't care if our next coach has a superbowl ring or not. It doesn't matter if he has NFL head coaching experience. I want a guy that has a PLAN and an attitude to go along with it. The team hasn't had a dominant leader in along time. From the outside looking in, I think alot of the personalities on this team would respond to a Singeltary type. The 49ers play with a fire in their belly. That is fun to watch and his attitude is reflected through them. -Let's hear your most random thoughts. I just admitted to wanting Campbell! Beat that Campbell-No- He is in the bottom 5 starting QBs in the league, not really any better than what we already have here. -You don't know if the Pats will win next year, they have alot more luck getting free agents to come there than we do-for obvious reasons. -As far as a coach with no experience, haven't we had our share of these disasters? -Don't put all of your money on the Eagles, would hate to see you in the Welfare line. -As Far as T.O., he has lost a step, although he is still a dangerous weapon when you have someone who can get him the ball. I do think it has been obvious, that at times when he gets in a bad mood he does dog it, doesn't put in much effort going for balls that are not right in his hands (which he still drops often) and never goes after a DB that has interecepted a pass. All in all though, I wouldn't mind seeing him back next year if they get a good QB here with a strong arm here to get him the ball downfield, otherwise he is a waste of money.

PushthePile Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 I believe Minnesota has lost to the two teams from last years Superbowl, not exactly embarrassing losses. Have had no where near the close games that the Eagles have. Right because Pittsburgh and Arizona are obviously unbeatable this year. Besides Minnesota has proven themselves year after year to be great in the postseason.

The Bills have missed on all types of coaches -I like Philly because they have already proved to me they can get it done in the playoffs. They remind me of the Bills superbowl teams.
Mr. WEO Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Right because Pittsburgh and Arizona are obviously unbeatable this year. Besides Minnesota has proven themselves year after year to be great in the postseason. Well, you have to admit, there are a few significant differences between past Minny teams and the current...
AxelRipper Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 as long as we dont draft a QB and think that he is going to solve all of our problems this year, then i'm fine. personally, i think vick could help us. i'm not going into the dog that has been beaten to death in other threads about his previous problems, but as a player, i think he could get it done.
Conch Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I think this year's in-season pickups..Brohm, Meredith, Incognito, Simmons, Draft .. have more than a 50/50 chance of being better than all of our recent draft classes.

Conch Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 really? All of them are relatively young. You could have two starters on the oline next year and Brohm as the #2 QB. Simmons is a former #1, already he has helped stabilize the line. should start next year Brohm was a 2nd rd pick and would have gone in the first rd a year earlier. Could be a #2 QB next year Incognito was 3rd rd pick and only need some prozac to get his act together, could start next year Meredith is a 5th rd-er but was projected as a 2nd. All oline men need at least 3 years to develop. could start or quality depth in two years. Draft was a 5th or 6th rd pick -- quality depth already.

Don't see it happening. Didnt the Cardinals go 8-8 last year with 6 of their wins coming against their pathetic division and all 8 of those coming at home, while going 0-8 on the road. Phili has been my dark horse to go to the superbowl for awhile now.
Indy Bills Fan Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Can't hurt. Hell, maybe he can teach Brohm a couple things. Just curious as to why everyone is so hyped about Brohm?? He is a second round pick that couldn't get off of the practice squad in GB. Does anyone really think he is going to be the next JK?
KD in CA Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 -Let's hear your most random thoughts. I just admitted to wanting Campbell! Beat that I love threads like this, thanks. Replies/thoughts on your topics: Campbell -- I have always liked him but haven't watched a Redskins game all year. Agree with the concept of getting a younger guy with upside rather than a broken down vet. Owens -- Really hard to judge given our inability to get him the ball this year. 'Elite' or not, you're right that he's the only guy on the team at or near that category (spare me the Lee Evans worship). Pats* -- I think Marcia is almost ready to be a full time Dad. Bills should help him make up his mind; 15 yards is a small price to pay for leveling him a couple times this weekend. Eagles -- That offense was in 'wow' mode against the Giants but I've seen enough stinkers from McNabb to believe they won't navigate through Minny and/or NO on the road. But I'm getting giddy thinking about the NFC playoffs. Coach -- Agreed. This team has no passion/desire/will to win/belief in their ability to kick ass. They still need a LT, DE, QB, LB, but you also need some fire in the belly to win in the NFL. Some other thoughts: I am terrified that the Bills will make up their mind to take a QB in the first round and settle for a dog like Colt McCoy. Unless they get Clausen (which they won't), I don't want to see a QB drafted. Too many other holes to plug on this ship. Marcus Stroud will be 32 and Aaron Schobel 33 next season; both with 9 years of NFL wear and tear. I don't want to see anyone drafted -- in any round -- that doesn't play LT or on the defensive front 7. I think expanding the Toronto arrangement may be what saves the Bills once Ralph is gone. I am rooting for the Saints and Colts every game until the Super Bowl. If that happens, I will root for the Saints. I don't understand people that hate players on their favorite team unless the guy is dogging it or beating his wife.
RyanC882 Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Hell yeah on Jason Campbell! He's only 27, 14th in QB rating, 15th in yards, 14th in TDs without exactly being surrounded by the 2007 Pats or the 1999 Rams. And, he's had to deal with a different OC every year of his career. How many of those will be available? Why not. Go into camp with Campbell, Brohm, Edwards and draft a QB in the 2nd or thrid round after solidifying the O-line and LB problems.

TO has been thrown to 90 times this year (not a small number complared to many other WRs). He's caught 50 %, dropped 10% and only 30% of his catches got us a first down. Good point about Stroud---but someone here actually said we shouldn't take Suh because "he plays the same position as Stroud". Holy moley! Toronto seems more of an embarrasment to all parties with each game. The Canadians have to feel they got suckered on this one. Saints/Colts will be a great SB!

BillsfaninFl Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 What happened to the other 40 %? Well, if they weren't caught and they weren't dropped, maybe they bounced off his helmet or were thrown into the stands. I'm not going to take the time to look up the numbers myself, so I can't dispute the post. But I believe elite wide receivers catch better than 50% of the balls thrown to them.
