Just Jack Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Interesting site.... http://borrowmydvd.squarespace.com/ What's the difference between letting a friend borrow a DVD and letting someone download a movie from your computer? According to the MPAA, thousands (and sometimes millions) of dollars. While I don't expect to change the world, I would like to prove a point: The MPAA has gotten out of control. And I plan on doing something about it. The goal of Borrow My DVD is to send a DVD I own to the first person who signs up. Then, I will give them the name and address of the second person. When the second person receives it, I will email them the name and address of the next person (and so on). When the movie finally returns to me, I plan on sending it to the head of the MPAA. I will also include a list of names (first name, last inital only) of everyone who borrowed the DVD.

/dev/null Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 This idea is going to end up like that game preschoolers play where they all sit in a circle and one kid whispers something into the ear of the person to the next who then repeats it to the person next to them. By the time the message gets back to the original kid, it is totally different 1st person: sends Transformers DVD to 2nd person 2nd person: Replaces Transformers with Gladiator and sends to 3rd person 3rd person: Replaces Gladiator with Ishtar and sends to 4th person 4th person: Replaces Ishtar with Girls Gone Wild and sends to 5th person 5th person: Replaces Girls Gone Wild with a gay porno and sends to Deerball Deerball: Keeps the gay porno and sends Transformers back to the 1st person

So somebody puts the DVD in their DVD player, Xbox, and PS3. Then what happens when they replace their DVD player with Blu-Ray?

What do I look like, a Googlebot? Figure out some technology. Or maybe we should shrug our shoulders and just steal it.
/dev/null Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 What do I look, a Googlebot? You and your hamsters invented the Googlebot so you should know what it's capable of
ieatcrayonz Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 You and your hamsters invented the Googlebot so you should know what it's capable of I did not invent the Googlebot. It was sent to capture me and we did a switcheroo and Sammy reprogrammed it. Carl wasn't even here at the time. Plus besides if I was going to have the Googlebot waste cycles on fez prevention I would charge more than any media company could possibly afford. It is working on something MUCH bigger than that.
thebug Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I tried to lend my car to my friend the other day, but he couldn't use it because I had already lent it out to 3 friends.

You should have grouped the car loan out to all of your friends into a Motorvehicle Based Security (MBS). And if there was a problem loaning it out to all of your friends at once you should have sold some Car Default Swaps (CDS)
Nanker Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I think Congress is seriously missing the boat here on getting tax money from these DVD "transactions" and "loans". Maybe the best way to handle that is to put a $500.00 tax on all DVD sales. Of course if you earn over $200k a year - the tax goes up to $3,500 per DVD.
Philly McButterpants Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 It was a worthwhile read just to re-discover the Ilovebacon site . . I had forgotten all about that.
