BillsVet Posted December 4, 2009 Share Posted December 4, 2009 As soon as the season ends on 3 JAN, this organization will show whether or not they're interested in being a winner again. They have two courses of action: choose to make short term emotional moves which may sell tickets like hiring Marv as GM, or begin to lay the groundwork for another rebuilding effort by hiring a real GM and letting that person hire a HC. To rebuild properly, it requires RW to relinquish some control over football operations to a real GM versed in football operations. And in Bills franchise history, RW hasn't gotten much right. He also won't be able to hire one man to do both GM and HC jobs, which historically hasn't worked in the salary cap era. Either way, we'll know where this team intends to go when the month of January is over. RW said during his ring ceremony that he still wanted to bring a SB to Buffalo. Without significant change at the top and on the sidelines (i.e. a total rebuild) I don't see the fans buying the hype. Well, not nearly as many in 2010. The majority of the NFL will be in off-season mode by mid January. Unless Buffalo has focused on a guy who works for one of those teams still in the playoffs, I expect to see movement on a GM and HC by this time. Waiting the entire month of January before naming a GM and/or HC severely curtails the off-season analysis and preparation for UFA and the draft. There always gonna be 45-50 thousands fans who are diehards. Been born and raised in Bills country. Its in the blood. That said we have been giving a sub-par product. This is not the fans fault, its the organizations. We in part pay money into a product that we hope does well. Just like the stock market you don't know whats gonna happen. So there a risk involved but most people who love the Bills take the risk because they either love the sport or love everything that comes with the game. Ralph said that he was gonna do his best to field a Super Bowl team. Seems like we are two years away from that. But all we can do is wait and see how it goes down. Ralph will get fans excited (Shanahan talk) maybe signing a big name FA with all the cap money we have because he only cares about filling the seats. Winning is no longer the priority in Buffalo and the blame should 100% be put on Ralph Wilson. Look at all of his football decisions this past decadeand it's no wonder we've been as bad as we have for as long as we have. What makes me most frustrated are the rumors of Ralph having final say on draft day decisions. The rumblings that he's been the one to have final say on particular players that were drafted is very frightening. Ralph's knowledge of the X's and O's of modern day football is non-existent. The evidence: the success of his teams since Polian leaves. This team is a mess and will continue to be a mess until Ralph isn't the one making the decisions, Thurman said it himself, and he's 100% right. How quickly we forget that there hasn't been an off-season in forever that translated into success come September. Plenty of casual fans laud the moves of the off-season that ultimately fail to improve the "sub-par" product during the regular season. RW has said a lot of things over the past decade. He's told us to appreciate the fact we have a team, and not to worry about the team moving-for now. I cannot believe we're counting on a 91 year old man to make substantive changes with his track record this decade. This team is as bad today as it was when TD was fired, perhaps worse. How many here had the Bills winning "at least 10 games, and making a wild card" on the basis of signing Terrell Owens? Lets' stop pretending that Bills fans are any more sophisticated than other fan bases... we love our team, no matter how bad the evidence shows them to be, and will look for any reason to get excited... Neither one of them is currently showing anything to indicate that the Bills made a mistake in cutting them. Simply because they aren't making an impact elsewhere, doesn't mean they wouldn't have made our mess of a line better than it was this year. Both guys were overpaid, yes... but they weren't as bad as our alternatives. Personally, I care more about this team winning games, than how much money Ralph Wilson is paying someone.
