Canadian Bills Fan Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Whats more important? Let the debate begin!
nucci Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 A good QB can make plays with a bad line. A bad QB will suck no matter what kind of line he plays with.
fansince88 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 A good QB can make plays with a bad line. A bad QB will suck no matter what kind of line he plays with. Actually, a good QB will get the snot kicked out of him if he has a bad line and a bad Qb will get the snot kicked out of him if he has a bad line. Now if he has a good line he will play good if he is a good QB and a bad QB will just barely keep his job if there is nobody else. Although if he is a great QB with a Great line than you play post season games. If you suck and have a great line you watch the post season from your living room like you and I. Buffalo has a good QB with a ok line and one receiver that plays hard and one that is worried about his own image and alot of practice squad. THE BIG QUESTION HERE IS WOULD YOU WANT TO GM HERE!
frogger Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 QB>OL Look at Manning, he plays behind a bunch of no names and makes them look great, if Jeff Saturday was in a Bills uniform we'd call him over-hyped and not worth the money it cost to sign him. But with the colts he's a pro bowler, do you think that Wolford, Ballard, Hull and the rest were that great? no it was the talent surrounding them! Scheme has a lot to do with it as well, the line Buffalo had in the 90's was good, but the talents of 4 Hall of famers made it great (kelly, Thomas, Lofton and should be Reed)
Astrojanitor Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 O-Line lets the running game open up and allows the QB to actually see the field and the WR to make some moves. Last night the Jets were getting to Fitz as soon as the ball did. No one functions well behind a line like that. just look at Brady being next to useless Monday when the Saints collapsed the pocket.
PromoTheRobot Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Anyone who thinks a QB can play without blocking is revealing how little they understand football. PTR
stuckincincy Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Whats more important? Let the debate begin! They can't afford to grab whatever hot-shot QB is there when they draft. Sell off the 1st round, then pick some OLs, a couple of LBs. They probably are out of the running for any top-name DEs and DTs - too bad, but they dug their own grave. Pick that wow-wee QB that somehow dropped to the 6th, and while they are at it, spend a luxury 5th or so on a FB that blocks - and dare to play him. Fat chance there, I know. Mardy Gilyard would be a fine, needed, and totally wrong pick. I'd see what Lankster can do as a PR. AFAIK, he's been on the 53 man enough, so he can't be put onto the PS.
Glass To The Arson Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 O-line in FA. We are doing decent with a patchwork line. Get our starters back! QB in draft and then more oline in 2nd round
Gavin in Va Beach Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Oline, Oline, Oline. Fitz will do just fine for another year. I wouldn't be opposed to taking a chance on a raw talent QB in the later rounds (what round was Brady drafted again?) but let's build that damn oline! Of course, the above is irrelevent if Ralphie doesn't get some good football people into the front office pronto. Won't matter who we draft then.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 It all begins with an O Line. You have to be able to run the ball. And IMHO. No Fitz will NOT do just fine for another year. The Bungles dumped him for F's sake.
stuckincincy Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 We are doing decent with a patchwork line. Kermit, Bert, Ernie, Elmo, Big Bird.
Peter Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 QB>OL Look at Manning, he plays behind a bunch of no names and makes them look great, if Jeff Saturday was in a Bills uniform we'd call him over-hyped and not worth the money it cost to sign him. Scheme has a lot to do with it as well, the line Buffalo had in the 90's was good, but the talents of 4 Hall of famers made it great (kelly, Thomas, Lofton and should be Reed) Yes, I do. I wish that we had the same quality line now.
Dante Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Have to start building this thing from the ground up. Every building needs a good foundation. Thats the oline and thats where we should start. Not much good can happen without it. At least, not consistently to be a winner.
Peter Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Anyone who thinks a QB can play without blocking is revealing how little they understand football. PTR Words of wisdom.
evilbuffalobob Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Trade down in the first for picks. Trade down in the first for more picks. Trade for McNabb. Draft a LT with the first pick. Big Ben. Great Qb. Bad OL. 2 SB Rings.
DrDawkinstein Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 wow, this might be a new record for the earliest "trade down in the draft" post. never too early to start with the way this season is going!
fansince88 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Yes, I do. I wish that we had the same quality line now. I agree with you peter. Frogger that statement was foolish It was a solid team.
fansince88 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Trade down in the first for picks. Trade down in the first for more picks. Trade for McNabb. Draft a LT with the first pick. Big Ben. Great Qb. Bad OL. 2 SB Rings. 1) stop it with all the bring in McNabb crap. Im sick of other peoples leftovers. 2)Pittsburg's OL for the last 5 years gave Rothensberger his rings. Yeah he has been great but it was the time that he gets that cause his greatness.
reddogblitz Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 OL The Jets are showing what you can do with a good OL and a bad QB. 6-6 and still in "playoff contention". Way better than 4-8 and out of it. Really though, the Bills need address both in a big way in the off season.
stuckincincy Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 It all begins with an O Line. You have to be able to run the ball. And IMHO. No Fitz will NOT do just fine for another year. The Bungles dumped him for F's sake. The now 8-3 Bungles didn't dump him. Despite leading the league in games lost by starters last season. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...in.34d3911.html Sorta like the situation that BUF's QBs have had to face this year - eh? BUF ponied up a price that CIN couldn't match, what with so much of their QB contract $$$ tied up with Palmer. They very much would have liked to have kept him on their club. Fact. For F's sake, as you say.
