  1. 1. In what order would you draft these 3 positions?

    • OL, QB, then DL
      38
    • QB, OL, then DL
      45
    • DL, QB, then OL
      11

First round QBs are a big gamble. More QBs drafted in later rounds have won the SB than first rounders...

1st round QBs have won a much higher percentage of Super Bowls than any other round, even though there have been 6 to 11+ more rounds in drafts. 21 of 43 Super Bowls have been won with a 1st round QB. On a statistical basis, your best chance of winning a Super Bowl, by round selected is clearly the 1st round, where almost half the winners have come from. In order for your statement to be valid, the Super Bowl winning QBs would be equally spaced over all rounds, that simply isn't the case.

A more reasonable conclusion would be: 1st round QBs are a gamble, only about half succeed. However, the success rate drops as the round of the draft drops, so your best chance of getting a QB who is going to lead you to a championship is still the 1st round.

We need to stop the bleeding before we try to heal the wound. Forget drafting a QB. If the Bills really are willing to spend some money to make the team competitive, they should go out and pay for two high quality, veteran offensive linemen in free agency. Perhaps even a solid DT or LB. Then you can sit down before the draft and say what choices will allow us to complete the process of making changes so we can run the ball and stop the run. Maybe a true monster for the middle of a 3-4 defensive line, or a tight end that can be an advantage for the offense.

Wait until next year to consider drafting a QB, DB, RB, etc.
