Don't buy it new, wtf?

I don't know if you loathe Gamespot like you do Blockbuster, but I bet you could get it there for about $15 or so.

One of the "used" listings on the amazon page is some sort of "factory amazon" thing where I can still use my Prime membership for free shipping, plus it's only like $15. It's the first listing on the "used" list for that game. Looks like a pretty good deal to me

This may sound like an insult, but it's not -- you should check out "Pac Man Championship Edition." It's on Xbox Live Arcade, and you can download it for 800 MS points ($10). It's like the original Pac Man, so you only have to use the right thumb stick, but it's SOOO smooth and gets CRAZY fast. It's a blast, even though most people I tell that to don't believe me. When they eventually get around to playing it though, they're hooked.

It's nice if you have a spare few minutes to play.

Also on Xbox Live Arcade are some awesome board games, including "Settlers of Catan," and "Carcasonne." Catan can take awhile to play, but Carcasonne only takes 5-10 minutes, so is great for a quick game - and you really have to use your brain for both of them.

Speaking of your brain, if you want to get frustrated doing puzzles (in a fun way), check out Braid. It's like Super Mario Brothers on the surface, but after awhile you'll realize it's nothing like that. Hard to explain, but it's definitely an awesome game - $10-$15 on XBLA.

Another great XBLA game is "Shadow Complex." This one has a few more buttons you need to use, so you might have coordination issues, but it's also a lot of fun.

You can download demos for free -- although you might need a harddrive since I don't know how large your internal memory is - probably only 512M.

Cool, I'm loving xbox live....$4/month is a huge bargain for that service, and I haven't even scratched the surface yet.

I'm determined to get better with my game play, I just can't believe how much more advanced things have become. I expect to be pretty good at Top Spin 3 very soon, and there are certain things in GTA that I'm pretty good at....just have to get the ol' brain to work a little faster

Anyway, like I said above, I'm really having a lot of fun with it (particularly GTA IV), but it's also making me feel semi-retarded. There are so many more buttons, triggers, bumpers, sticks, and pads to coordinate that I often feel lost and uncoordinated. With the exception of a match just a few minutes ago on Top Spin 3, I have pretty much been thoroughly obliterated by whoever I've played online.

Any of you guys (or girls) get back into gaming as an adult after being away from it for a while? What are some of your favorite games and what did you grow up playing? Did you feel overwhelmed at all when you got back into it, or is it just me?

I last played Super Nintendo during summers when I was in the mid-teens, and even at that, just Super Mario, Off-road racing, and Zelda.

My nephew, 9, has every game console there is. I tried an ATV game and could barely make it around the track. The Wii Sports one was kind of cool, and was pretty easy. But beyond that, yes, there are too many buttons, etc. for me to do anything. They left me behind. Oh well. Not a big loss.

Playing games? Meh. I'm returning to making games.

Although I have been thinking about a console. Given what we know now, any thoughts on which to try first? Xbox or PS3?

Warehouse Amazin is perfectly fine to order from -- that's actually where I got my HD-XA2 from; it's Amazon's returns and overstock section.

I'd say Xbox for a few reasons -- see the thread

The main thing the PS3 has going for it is the Blu-ray player -- but since you can buy a nice standalone player for a little over $100 today, I don't think it's worth the extra expense over the 360 for that functionality anymore.

In addition, lots of people on TBD have the 360 - so you can play online against them.

That's like asking Coke or Pepsi. 20 opinions from 20 people.

So Fez had been selling me on the idea of an xbox 360 for a while, and I finally gave in. Now, while I am astonished at how much I SUCK at these games, I'm actually having a really good time. Not only is xbox live way cool (particularly the netflix streaming!!), but games have come so far since I last played consistently (playstation 1 back in the mid 90s) that it's almost overwhelming.

I'm 37 years old and I grew up on the Atari 2600. Back when I was a kid, it was like a national headline when Pac Man was released on that console. Even before that, I remember my parents had something called "Odyssey", which is where you put these big plastic things that have an image on them over the tv screen and simple lights would correspond with parts of the picture as you played the game. I was huge into the Sega Genesis and Nintendo NES, and then finally got around to the Playstation.

I fall in and out of gaming, all on PC.

Games I have played and do like:

Myst series

Syberia series

Call of Duty 1 and 2

Tomb Raider series

Presently playing Trackmania, an arcade type racing game.

There is a free version available, and even the free version allows players to play online against people from all over the world.

I have met numerous 'older' players who play this game, ranging anywhere from their mid 30's to 60+

You might want to poke around here:

No, you could always say Mountain Dew just to be that guy.

I'm 26 and I've had a Wii for a few years. I thought of that as more of a casual gaming thing though. Playing the sports games and the Wii Fit with the occasional game that Wii's controls enhanced (like golf or carnival games).

But I just recently bought a PS3. I'll be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed when I was only playing sports games. But then I downloaded that redone version of Turtles in Time from the old arcade and it was a blast. I realized that I should probably try out other types like RPG and FPS, etc. But it's been a long time since I've been into that. I'm thinking of trying out Gamefly. Anyone else use that?

I used to be a gamefly customer, but they went downhill. I couldn't get a game when i wanted it. Canceled and subscribed to Blockbuster's game pass, much happier.

OMG ... Odyssey ... LOL ... we had that too. Yeah I was into Atari 2600 ... started playing PC games in college with the first Duke Nuke Em and would play that for hours. About 10 years ago started playing Counter Strike online and would get embarrased by 12 year olds ... we played Unreal Tournament for a few years at work on our lunch hour until IT clamped down ... but we were all pretty much at the same level. Once in a while I play unreal online, but usually the team oriented games to hide how much I suck.
