PIZ Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 On the news. Top retail chains as of today: 1. Wal-Mart 2. Home Depot 3. Sears-K-Mart 4. Target Maybe the next step will be a merge of Sears-KMart-Target.
Thailog80 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 wal Mart is a conglomerate monster. I read they also want to get into Banking. I read that 30% of Wal Marts customers don't have any type of bank account.
John from Riverside Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 We just recently had a Super Wall Mart open up in Hemet..... I went into it last weekend....they sell EVERYTHING.....including groceries......and at a much cheaper price.... I then walked into our local supermarket.....checkers standing around with nothing to do......not a soul in there..... Oh boy.....
Des Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I then walked into our local supermarket.....checkers standing around with nothing to do......not a soul in there..... Oh boy..... 121809 Boise, Idaho... Home of Albertsons Corp... What a nightmare watching this grocery chain try and fight the big dawgs. They chose not to go down the road of warehouse, and it's costing them... they implement Preferred Cards, force the checkers to push a sale a the checkstand... they are always understaffed, with very unprofessional help... The service is gone... No way does Albertsons survive the WalMart, Winco (does anyone have one of these) Fred Meyer model...
Thailog80 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Wal Mart has killed the little stores in my area. But I don't feel sorry for the ones I thought gouged the hell out of people.
ch19079 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 they say merge, but i thkn k-mart baught sears. since k-mart will use there directors and everything. strange to me cus i thaught k-mart went bankrupt a year ago.
John from Riverside Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 My question is this.... I think that inevitably Wall Mart is going to drive everyone else out...it is only a matter of time. When they DO.....do they all of a sudden grow horns and mark everything up?

JimBob2232 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 When they DO.....do they all of a sudden grow horns and mark everything up? That is called predatory pricing, and HIGHLY illegal. Biggest corporate problem in History if what you are saying comes to pass.
Terry Tate Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 K-Sears Or SearMart? 121800 "Shop Smart - shop S-Mart"
BuffaloBud Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I hope I get this right. The chairman of K-Mart ran/owned the investment company that owned 15% of Sears. That investment company was Sears' largest shareholder.
stevestojan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I honestly believe I could live in a Super Walmart for 3 weeks with absolutly no problem. You have all the food you could ever want. You could sit in the entertainment section for your TV watching. Sleep? Hello camping section. If I was homeless, I would get enough shampoo and soap, wash in the bathroom every other day, and just chill at walmart. -

stevestojan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 You've never seen Where The Heart Is, have you? 121978 Nope. never saw it. But, my movie would be entitled "Where the Fried Chicken is" because Super Walmarts have the best fried chicken you can get, and CHEAP...

Wasn't that hot chick from Star Wars in that movie "Where the Heart is?"
BuffOrange Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Sweet - I always hated having to go to 2 different stores to get my Starburst and Lawn Mower.
stevestojan Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Does this merger mean that all of Sears' merchandise (lawn mowers, tools, etc) will now become crappier quality, or all of KMarts merchandise (Wrangler Jeans, towels made in sweat-shops, etc) will be of a higher quality?
