So it got me wondering who I and the rest of you think are worthy of sticking around if (I mean when, please when) we get a new GM and head coach. Jamon Meredith Donte Whitner Kawika Mitchell George Wilson (just because I like him) Lydell Sargeant (Don't really know enough yet one way or the other) Ashlee Palmer (ditto) Ashton Youbouty (although injury history may totally ruin his chances) As harsh as it sounds, everyone else looks expendable or easily replaceable to me. It might take some time to replace them, but I don't know that we would ever miss them. So, out of 71 players (including IR and Practice Squad) I would definitely keep 18 players, would probably keep 4 more, and maybe 6 to 9 more from the bubble guys...so that's 28-31 of 71 or an average of keeping only 39% to 44% of the players currently with the team. I really expected when I started this that I would disagree with Carucci and say that it wouldn't be nearly as high as two thirds, but my list isn't far from that. If only two of the bubble players were to stick around we'd be at Vic's two thirds. What do you all think? Anyone I forgot? Anyone I listed you wouldn't keep around? Are we really this bad?
TheMadCap Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Not bad at all IMO, even thought they aren't ELITE players by any stretch, I would definitely think you keep Whitner and Hardy, and I would be tempted to keep Lankster and Wilson around for depth on D, and Edwards as a backup QB. You DEFINTELY cut Kelsay, just cause it would feel sooooo good to see him gone...

Is it really so difficult to find a coach that is able to create a scheme based on the talents of the existing players plus the best ones available in FA and the draft rather than insisting on pushing square pegs into round holes for 3 years looking for the right 'scheme' guys? How many more years are the Bills going to pass on guys like Orakpo and Ngata because they don't fit some impotent scheme? As for the list, pretty good. Other than Whitner, I wouldn't be sorry to see anyone on that bubble list go.

I would most def keep George Wilson, he the kind of player you want on the field and in the locker room. And also I would move Hardy to the Potential list because we just have not seen enough of him to place him on the bubble.

I love the post...obviously you gave everything much though. I think lynch is gone. He just isnt that good. Doesnt see the hole, poor vision, drops passes and his overall demeanor stinks. We are losing by 20 points to Houston and the dude is laughing on the sidelines. Thats one of the HUGE problems with this team. I think Mitchell will go too. Most everything else I agree with. Miyagi-Do Karate Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 1) Defense: I think we have to build the team around Maybin, McKelvin, and Byrd--particularly Maybin. You don't take a guy like Maybin at #11 and try to squeeze him into your scheme--build the entire defense around him if necessary, or don't draft him. 2) Offense: It seems like we have a core interior line in place, and those three guys stay. Other than that, I don't see any guys we absolutely must keep (except maybe Hamdan ).

As far as the "would probably" I would say Lindell is a definite and has earned a starting job. He's not only been a good FG kicker but he's very solid in kick-offs. You have definitely Posluszny but I don't see how or why he is a definite and guys like Schobel and Lindell are not. Explain

You don't take a guy like Maybin at #11 and try to squeeze him into your scheme--build the entire defense around him if necessary, or don't draft him. 2) Offense: It seems like we have a core interior line in place, and those three guys stay. Miyagi-Do Karate Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 build the team around Maybin????? why not? if this guy was supposed to be such an explosive pass rusher, he needs to be a focal point, like Woodley and Harrison are for the Steelers. Shift the defense to 3-4, and make him the featured pass rusher. I'm just tired of drafting supposedly big-time players, but never figuring out how to use them.

He had one game he rolled most of his 12 sacks into. There isn't enough proof that this guy deserved being picked 11th. I have no idea how good Maybin was or is; all I know is that all the draft niks were drooling about this kid and, more significantly, we picked him. I'm not ready to throw away another high pick without seeing him play and used in a manner that utilizes his skills. It's clear he can't play DE in the 4-3 scheme we use now.
