  1. Better than that Williams guy who "replaced" him here. Is Duke even in the league?
  2. The absolute worse thing you can do as a punter is out kick your coverage. That is worse that shanking it out 20 yards from where you punt because outkicking your coverage is where big, dangerous, potentially game altering returns come from. I think it was the first Duke Williams. The safety.
  3. 1. Nathan Peterman's quick release was fast like Dan Marino's and he would have great success in this league. 2. J. P. Losman would have a productive career. 3. I thought Marcel Dareus would develop into a Pat Williams type of NT, but instead he went the route of JaMarcus Russell once he got his big pay day. 4. I was on the fence with Johnson vs. Flutie, but leaned a bit toward Johnson instead of Flutie. 5. I thought Kelvin Benjamin was a good acquisition. 6. Duke Williams was going to be that big target and would blossom. 7. Marv Levy was just another coaching "re-tread" and would only last a couple of years in Buffalo as HC. 8. Marv Levy would be a savior as a GM. However, on the flip side, I will say I was all-in on the Josh Allen pick before the draft and didn't think much of the "other Josh".
  4. Wrong Josh was before they played though. Go down the list of folks the board crapped on that played for the Bills for 3-4 years? Kelsay, Spiller, Whitner, Duke Williams, Fitz etc etc. List goes on and on.
  5. With the loss of Duke & Antonio, Buffalo is down to just a single "Williams" on their roster! This must be addressed - Beane will take care of it! 😁
  6. Here are the best available safeties going into free agency in 2017 per NFL.com: Safeties Dashon Goldson, Atlanta Falcons Matt Elam, Baltimore Ravens Kendrick Lewis, Baltimore Ravens James Ihedigbo, Buffalo Bills Robert Blanton, Buffalo Bills Phillip Thomas, Buffalo Bills Aaron Williams, Buffalo Bills Michael Griffin, Carolina Panthers Rafael Bush, Detroit Lions Don Jones, Houston Texans Duke Williams, Indianapolis Colts T.J. McDonald, Los Angeles Rams Michael Thomas, Miami Dolphins Jairus Byrd, New Orleans Saints Roman Harper, New Orleans Saints Jamarca Sanford, New Orleans Saints Shamarko Thomas, Pittsburgh Steelers Jeron Johnson, Seattle Seahawks Kelcie McCray, Seattle Seahawks Daimion Stafford, Tennessee Titans Rashad Johnson, Tennessee Titans Donte Whitner, Washington Redskins Duke Ihenacho, Washington Redskins Do you even see Jordan Poyer on that inauspicious list? He was seen as a scrub not even worth noting on a list that had Robert Blanton on it, for chrissakes. And it wasn't just the people looking from 10,000 feet.........Jordan Poyer was the 69th ranked safety when he actually played(only 6 games healthy) in 2016 per PFF. He was seen as just a league minimum, non-starting quality, compete for a roster spot kinda' player. The Bills gave him starters money.......there are 60 starting safeties in the NFL........do the math. And a 4 year contract to boot! Basically........just STFU.
  7. Duke Williams shows as being out for tonight's visit to Edmonton; ankle injury. Might be a cover story, as a department manager at Canadian Tire Southland Mall (Regina, SK), he had to cover that kid who went to Scout camp.
  8. I’ve been following this thread daily, and there are a few perspectives I’m a little surprised by on here. Gabriel Davis: There’s been a narrative on here and in the media that the Bills will be “taking a risk” with Davis as the #2WR. I think we could all see his potential at the beginning of ’21, and I feel like it’s clear that he developed into exactly that. He has a great catch radius, and can win contested targets. His separation improved. The third-down sideline throw to Davis where his toes are inbounds, and he is catching the ball as he is falling out of bounds was a weekly occurrence, and impossible to defend against. IMO, Davis ended the season a legit #2, and I don’t see why that would be a risk. We know who he is. Beasley vs. Crowder: Looking at Beasley’s numbers for the ’21 season, I was actually surprised that his production hadn’t fallen off more than it did. He had more targets, but fewer receptions, yards, and TDs from the previous season. And, I think the biggest falloff for him was his ability to get separation. Beasley had Tony Romo and Dak Prescott throwing him the ball for most of his career, but he didn’t have his career-high season until 2020 with Josh Allen. Crowder has had crap QBs, on crap teams, throwing him the ball his entire career, and his production was very similar to Beasley’s in Dallas. If Crowder is given a similar role to Beasley’s, I think it’s reasonable to predict that Crowder will have a career season in Buffalo as well. Hopefully, he can stay healthy. Austin vs. Stevenson vs. Hodgins vs. Kumerow vs. The Rest of the Bubble WRs: The arguments for depth WRs is always pretty amusing this time of year, and there seems to be no shortage of table-pounding this time around. I don’t think Kumerow belongs in the same conversation as the rest of the bubble WRs. I agree with @GunnerBill that Kumerow’s main competition is Taiwan Jones as a special teamer, although I don’t agree that they can’t both make the team. Jones has zero value as a RB, but Kumerow does have value as a WR, even though he had a couple notable drops last season that dropped that value. I am mystified by the table-pounding over Hodgins, and Stevenson. Stevenson stinks on ice. The best thing we have ever heard about Hodgins was a blithe compliment during his rookie training camp from Diggs about how well he (and Davis) had learned the playbook. At least Duke Williams had a compelling backstory. I think Tanner Gentry has a better chance of making the roster than these two. Opinions on Austin are all over the board, and the most intriguing, IMO. My initial thought was that he would be camp competition for P/KR— perhaps to help elevate Shakir’s return game— and would have very little chance of making the 53. Maybe he'd be a veteran on the PS? But, reports out of OTAs (they certainly gave him plenty of reps), the timing of his acquisition, and frankly his press conferences, have me wondering…
  9. Good points for Moss. I still get the feeling Moss gets a lot of looks in pre-season as a show case. Buffalo has done it in the past with this leadership group. 1) evaluate his health and how well he runs behind this OL and blocking scheme, he may be improved and have more benefit to the Bills 2) he shows out and another team offers a decent pick for him. Duke Johnson becomes the reserve 'break in case of emergency' RB like Yeldon or Breida in seasons past. Still a bit bummed Antonio Williams left. I liked his running style and thought he was a tough North-South style runner. I could see Williams having a solid season for the Giants spelling Barkley or filling in if Saquon Barkley gets injured. Daboll and Schoen jumped on him early and the G-men don't have great depth behind Barkley if I recall correctly. Breida and Williams will probably be fighting for RB2.
  10. I think Cody Ford is going to really have to fight to make the 53, and it will be an uphill battle. With the addition of Saffold, and depth additions they made in FA, and the only departure being Daryl Williams, I have to think he's pretty far down the depth chart at this point. IMO, he's the most likely to go. Moss, in my opinion will be competing with Duke Johnson for a third RB spot (not including Taiwan Jones in this equation). I believe Motor, and Cook are locks. The one thing Moss might have to his advantage is his ability in pass protection. I don't know the stats for '21, but in '20 he was the the best RB in pass pro in the league. That is not a small consideration. Personally, my money is on Moss winning the competition, but I wouldn't put odds on it. Epenesa, in my opinion, isn't going anywhere. The Bills carried 11 D-linesmen last season. The D-line rotation is a hallmark of this defense. I would be pretty shocked if there Bills carried less than five DEs. After Miller, Groot, Lawson, Boogie, and Epenesa, the drop off is pretty large. Could Mike Love, or Eli Ankou, or Kingsley Jonathan beat out AJ? I suppose it's possible.
  11. I used to do this thread each year but haven't done one for a couple of years. In a quiet moment yesterday afternoon I sat down with the roster and tried to work out where I think the decision points will come. So I thought I'd revive this thread as a way of helping crystalise my thoughts. Firstly, this is not a roster prediction, people will start putting together 53s at this stage but my view is always that those last handful of spots are really difficult to correctly forecast until camp and pre-season arrive. This is more about starting to focus in on where the position battles are and where the position v position decisions will come. Key - see colour codes below.... these are important, because red does not mean cut and blue does not mean on the bubble. BLACK - Guaranteed roster spot (excluding major injury or suspension) BLUE - Probable roster spot RED - Fighting for those last few spots Quarterback Josh Allen Case Keenum Matt Barkley Running back Devin Singletary James Cook Reggie Gilliam FB Zack Moss Taiwan Jones Duke Johnson Raheem Blackshear Wide receiver Stefon Diggs Gabriel Davis Khalil Shakir Jamison Crowder Isaiah McKenzie Jake Kumerow Marquez Stevenson Tanner Gentry Isaiah Hodgins Neil Pau'u Malik Williams Tight End Dawson Knox O. J. Howard Quintin Morris Tommy Sweeney Jalen Wydermyer Offensive Line Dion Dawkins Spencer Brown Rodger Saffold Mitch Morse Ryan Bates Ike Boettger Tommy Doyle David Quessenberry Cody Ford Greg Mancz Bobby Hart Luke Tenuta Will Ulmer Derek Kerstetter Jacob Capra Alec Anderson Tanner Owen Defensive Line Ed Oliver Von Miller Gregory Rousseau DaQuan Jones Carlos Basham Jr. Tim Settle Jordan Phillips A. J. Epenesa Shaq Lawson Mike Love Eli Ankou Kingsley Jonathan Brandin Bryant Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds Matt Milano Terrel Bernard Tyler Matakevich Tyrel Dodson Andre Smith Baylon Spector Joe Giles-Harris Marquel Lee Cornerback Tre'Davious White Kaiir Elam Taron Johnson Dane Jackson Siran Neal Christian Benford Cam Lewis Travon Fuller Olaijah Griffin Tim Harris Nick McCloud Safety Jordan Poyer Micah Hyde Jaquan Johnson Damar Hamlin Josh Thomas Special Teams Tyler Bass Reid Ferguson Matt Araiza Matt Haack I make that 33 locks and 9 likelys leaving 11 spots for the rest to fight over. Obviously one of those is the winner of the punter battle - which I fully expect to be Araiza, but while the Bills are saying it is a camp battle they both have to be in red. That takes you down to 10 spots. At least 1 more linebacker, at least 1 more offensive lineman, at least 1 more safety and at least 1 more WR/RB.... that takes you down to 6 and then it becomes a question about which spots they want to prioritise having extra depth and special teams. I expect one of Kumerow and Taiwan Jones to make it as a starting gunner but unless Kumerow is legit the 6th best receiver (and maybe he will be) then I wouldn't expect both of them. I expect another corner to make it and Benford as the recent draft pick would seem to have the inside track and then I expect another tight end.... but I am not totally persuaded that guy has to come from the current roster. Could be an area where a vet shakes loose and the Bills scoop him up.
  12. Christian Wade and Duke Williams have one thing in common, both looked pretty good but were seldom used. I suppose this is a good thing, the Bills a deep in talent.
  13. Christian Wade, Efe Obada, Duke Williams-- I'm a sucker for these "feel good" stories. I root for them, follow them on social media, talk about them around the craft service table, hoping... but they never seem to work out. So, who's the underdog story going to be this season? (Please don't tell me Isaiah Hodgins. I'm bored already...)
  14. After the 30 for 30 on why Duke Williams didn’t get more playing time for the Bills, the Christian Wade story is the next episode I want to see.
  15. Mario Williams - Lined up opposite Von Miller would be fun for us and a nightmare for QB's. Kyle Williams - Loved his attitude and he'd be great with our two DE's. Duke Williams - We have a lack of Williams' on the team and need more. On second thought, forget Duke and add Jason Peters - A HOF offensive Tackle would be a solid addition to this team.
  16. July 10, 2022: Ti-cats did not lose this week in CFL action. (Bye week. 😁) * In other league action, Duke Williams was good for a TD and a 4 reception game against Ottawa on Friday night. I wonder if his good play is attributed to the fact his Canadian Tire on Thursday unloaded a shipping container of footballs shipped 'bulk'. 🤔
  17. 3 years ago we crucified Duke Williams as a CFL scrub for not making a difficult contested catch vs Houston and yet Davis and almost the whole receiving corps has had multiple easy drops this year. Worst year I've ever seen for easy drops!
  18. Canadian Tire says "KEEP AWAY FROM DUKE WILLIAMS! It's our busiest time!" 😠
  19. I just checked and Robert Foster is available too. Maybe Duke Williams too for that big body receiver? Josh is playing like 2019 Josh lately so let's make it happen
  20. Ugh ... you just reminded me of the ingenious game plan against Houston in the playoffs that featured Duke Williams getting TEN ***** TARGETS.
  21. Except the Bills chose to keep Duke Williams inactive for the majority of the season, then call him up for the playoff game and give him 10 effin' targets. That was 100% self-inflicted by piss poor personnel management and game planning. There goes MY day! Thanks for bringing this game up!
