Bills Training Camp Day 2 - 7/26
Warcodered replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I've seen have been the typical he still needs to develop/adjust to the NFL as a rookie nothing really all that negative at all I mean they were saying the same kind of things about Allen and Edmunds last year. -
I hope Lorenzo Alexander learned his lesson.
H2o replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alexander may have been on the field, but Edmunds wasn't. I bet TE is all over him week 1. -

Except that they handed the #2 pick Cody Ford the job. And they handed Tremaine Edmunds the job last year. -

I don’t necessarily disagree about what Allen was surrounded with to start last year, but you also have to account for the cap issues that were being purged which affected how many quality FA’s could be brought in, plus the draft capital used in getting Allen and Edmunds to begin with, as opposed to being able to go “hog wild” with FA and the draft this year to help Josh out. That said, the coaching hires could’ve been better from the get go, and QB room issues as well. But all of this appears to have been worked out in time to start this year off right and giving Josh the tools he needs to take the next step. -
Talent trumps chemistry every time, although with a HC who is a strong leader and understands his people assembling multiple big talent players with egos can work. Let's wait and see if Freddie Kitchens has the ability to manage these egos before predicting they'll crash and burn. Ultimately, I think criticism of teams like Cleveland (at this point) is a sort of Bills fan inferiority complex. It's so predictable here over the years for some fans to try and drag down other teams because the Bills aren't exceptionally talented. They do have players with potential, but no All-Pro caliber and few Pro Bowl players yet. People hope young players like Allen, Edmunds, Oliver, and Tre will become that, but they're not proven. We're going to find out this year whether McBeane's roster (and it's theirs now) has the talent to win 10+ games and get to the playoffs. Because having lesser talented players who buy-in to the HC's culture isn't enough to do that.

Bills Training Camp Day 1 - 7/25
DCbillsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Oliver was the guy I wanted the Bills to take. Jordan Phillips was a 2nd rounder and is no slouch. Bringing Oliver along at a slower pace, compared to Edmunds last year, and letting him acclimate to the pro game is a prudent move. I'll focus on what Astro wrote about Oliver yesterday. A lot can change in 4 weeks and I expect Oliver to be the dominant player that they need on the DL. -

I think each player is unique. McD said he’s got a long way to go, attributing it to bring a rookie. Well in the past 3 years he put Tre White, Tremaine Edmunds, and now Ford in starting roles right off the bat on day 1. Something is holding him back from doing that with Oliver, since it’s not like it’s his precedent to do that just because he’s a rookie. Good coaches know that some players need a unique approach to garner success from college to pro (an example was cutting Foster last year) . Every player is different but it doesn’t mean they would regret anything. They knew everything about him and highly coveted him because he’s an animal. Just might need something more before he’s handed anything. -

It’s all part of the process,. Ford and Edmunds are the only two rookies who came in and started at that their position first day of camp (under McDermott). And my guess is Ford won’t start out with the ones today. Read Astros report, Oliver was a menace lined up next two Star. -
5 players to watch in the third preseason game | Bills at Lions 2. Dawson Knox, tight end We haven’t seen much out of Dawson Knox in training camp after he suffered a hamstring injury. The past two weeks, Knox has been working his way back to full health. Knox spent the majority of the week practicing at full speed. The third-round tight end said he is excited to participate in his first preseason game. 5. Matt Milano, linebacker Missing the final three games of last season due to injury, Milano was motivated in camp to get back to where he was at in 2018. The linebacker racked up 78 tackles and three interceptions in 13 games. Milano received eight snaps against the Colts and 15 against the Panthers. He recorded four tackles against Carolina. The defense will be stronger this year with the trio of Milano, Lorenzo Alexander and Tremaine Edmunds on the field together.

Name 5 teams better then the Buffalo Bills
Delete_Delete_Delete replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mosley isn’t very good in coverage and they lost Avery Williamson. Brandon Copeland just got suspended 4 games. Their CBs aren’t as good or as deep. Adams is fine, But they don’t have a tandem like Hyde and Poyer who are both in their primes and familiar with each other and the scheme. I see no holes on Buffalo’s Defense and think Edmunds will take the step towards being elite for years to come. They are also without Herndon for the first 4 weeks which will hurt them. The only place I give them a slight edge is at WR, but not by a whole lot, the Bills DBs shouldnt have much issue shutting them down. Obviously Bell is an elite back, but their OL is a big question mark, where Buffalo has good depth at RB, keeping fresh legs behind a bolstered OL. The head coach issue is a pretty big deal. Darnold could be pretty good... but that won’t negate bad coaching enough to mean anything unless he is out of this world. Even then many times has a great QB like Phillip Rivers been on the outside looking in at the post season, despite being elite? Or above average QBs like Stafford? And who’s to say this Josh Allen kid doesn’t turn out to be some special??? The odds are the same for each QB. Plus new coach, new scheme, lots of new faces combined with all the injuries and suspensions is hardly a recipe for success. While Buffalo does have a good amount of new players, it’s year 3 of “the process” and players who have been around the last year or two should be much more comfortable schematically, and cut down on mental errors like missed assignments and stupid penalties. My main concern for Buffalo right now is both phases of the kicking game. We don’t want to deal with what Chicago did last season. -
My way too early thought...Beane crushed this draft
Logic replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. You can't truly judge an NFL draft class for a few seasons, but early returns on this one are HIGHLY encouraging. For that matter, I thought he killed LAST YEAR'S draft, too. Allen and Edmunds will be the offensive and defensive cornerstones of this team for years to come. -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-Season Game 1
Forward Progress replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has me excited. There were two many games where teams ran it down our throats last year and Edmunds choosing the right gap will go a long way toward correcting this. We already know our pass defense is very strong... if our run game is strong like it appeared last night, this defense will be elite. -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-Season Game 1
Juice_32 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was my main takeaway on the defensive side. Edmunds looks be reading things at an incredible pace. He was in the right gap instantly on every run. Granted its pre-season and there wasnt a ton of misdirection from the Colts, which he struggled with some last year, but he played at warp speed last night. -

Generally agree Gunner. I was very happy with the QB play. I'm willing to accept some miscommunication early on, provided that it looks like it's been ironed out rather quickly...seems that that's what we saw. You and I both had Ed Oliver as our #1 player in the draft, and it was obvious on a snap-to-snap basis why. He's "That Guy". Opposing OCs will devote time to game planning against him. You can already see the trickle down effect on the rest of the unit, as guys like Edmunds and Shaq are free to make plays. My other good night guys: Feliciano Star Corey Thompson Other bad night guys: Sweeney Jaquan Johnson -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-Season Game 1
HappyDays replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I focused on Edmunds a lot on my rewatch and I agree, he was flying all over the field. Compared to last year's preseason it was night and day. Oliver and Lotulelei were keeping him clean too. If he makes a big jump this year, along with the addition of Oliver and a deeper secondary, this defense is going to be ferocious. -

Edmunds with the react and attack. He’s going to be monster. -
WR's managed to get some separation tonight, Allen missed some throws though too. Oliver played pretty well, not sure what you were expecting, but he definitely didn't look as disappointing as Edmunds did when he first saw live action last year. 6-10? Maybe. It's definitely possible, but I think McDermott gets a little more out of this group. Even if Allen doesn't progress much, our schedule seems a bit easier this year, and our QB situation in general isn't the absolute worst in the league going into this season. Barkley can actually win us a game or two if he has to, unlike Peterman, and the O-line & Defense have more depth overall. Injuries aside, I'd say we SHOULD improve by at least 1-2 games. I think 6-10 is low end, while 8-8 is a reasonable expectation.

Oliver looked pretty good on his first series, missed sack aside. He was even doubled right out of the gate. Good for him to see perhaps the best O-Line in the league right away. He will find out what he needs to work on right away. PS. Edmunds is going to be an absolute monster this season. #StayHealthy -

Prediction for the Bills this season
GreggTX replied to Ice bowl 67's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We haven't seen how much progress Allen has made. Many of the FA's we signed were just backup caliber players that they are hoping will turn out better like Nsekhe, Feliciano and Long. I'm still concerned about that OL and won't really know what to expect there until guys get back healthy. It could take a while for this team to gel. 7-9 or 8-8. 1 more prediction: Ed Oliver will be the best player in this draft class and will play well right out of the gate, unlike Darius who took years to develop and then turned lazy again. If Edmunds can make the leap to year 2 along with progress from T Murphy and Oliver playing well, we could be pretty tough to run against for the 1st time in a long while. -
If Houston wanted to trade him for value it had to be before July 15 when a long term contract could be signed. It looks like he stays in Houston under the tag this season. They could tag him a second time but likely a FA after that. I hope the Bills stay away from him jmo . The Bills have future key players to sign big contracts, and that is very good. ( Allen , Edmunds , Tre , Dawkins )

Ron Rivera Impressed by Edmunds
DaBillsFanSince1973 replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also found this I had posted yesterday in the training camp thread interesting coming from rivera. Panthers’ Ron Rivera says joint NFL practices are invaluable Coach Ron Rivera believes joint practices have become an invaluable part of today's NFL. The Panthers wrapped up two days of practices at Wofford College with the Buffalo Bills that he thinks will go a long way toward helping both teams prepare for the regular season. Unlike preseason games, players weren't allowed to tackle which Rivera believes can be dually beneficial in getting plays down pat while at the same time not risking major injuries. "I'm not sure if playing the games is as important as it used to be, but things like this are invaluable," Rivera said Wednesday. "If you can get two teams that come in focused on working and developing you can help each other out a lot," Rivera said. A DECADE LONG PLAYER Buffalo's 21-year-old middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has a chance to be an impact player for the next decade, Rivera said. "We ran one screen against them and it looked like we were going to pick up some pretty good yardage and he ran it down to keep it to about a 4-yard gain," Rivera said. Edmunds had 80 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions last season as a rookie. REFINING THE OFFENSE New Bills receiver Cole Beasley said he's starting to get on the same page with second-year quarterback Josh Allen. On one option route, Beasley turned his head and the ball had already arrived perfectly on time. "The ball got on me so fast I almost didn't expect it," Beasley said. "I told him if you get the ball to me that fast I'm going to get you a lot (of yards) after the catch. It makes it so much easier on me and it will make us so much better as a team."
