  1. Current Draft Capital, including forecasted Comp pick for Edmunds, and their Modern Trade Chart Value: Round 1 - 28 (209) Round 2 - 60 (88) Round 3 - 99 (36) Round 4 - 129 (18) Round 5 - 143 (14) Round 5 - 159 (10) Round 5 - 162 (10) Round 6 - 192 (6) Round 6 - 198 (5) Round 6 - 206 (4) Round 7 - 246 (1) Lots of capital for movement around, especially on Day 3. No chance we use all of these picks.
  2. No, it’s set. The Bills are getting a 3rd for Edmunds but that’s it. https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks
  3. So I know the Bills are expected to get a comp pick for Edmunds in the 3rd. I see there are comp picks in all the other lower rounds too at the way down to the 7th. Wondering what does a team have to lose to only get say a 6th or 7th round comp pick? The water boy?? Chain gang? And I assume the Bills have no shot at any of those??
  4. no one- we have Josh-you only trade up for a QB- this is not Madden. let the draft come to us and don't reach or panic BBB. or Edmunds- we have to get younger and cheaper= more draft picks and not blow our wad on one player.
  5. Who don't they need? It seems anytime we have a discussion about anyone on the defense, people chime in saying they are necessary for the unit to function. For the past few years Hyde & Poyer were necessary. Now it's Milano and Johnson. People are afraid to cut or trade Douglas. Not going at you specifically, it just seems like fans/podcast guys and maybe even the FO depends far too much on aging vets on larger salaries. To stay competitive, we're going to need more Edmunds to Bernard stories and less restructures/extensions.
  6. Teams make trades they don’t work out all the time. Remember when the eagles traded Edmunds and two picks for Byard? Remember how that made Howie Roseman a genius? The Eagles just released him. Half a season of a guy that didn’t put them over the hump at all cost them a 4th and a 6th. Sometimes you take a swing and miss.
  7. I don't know enough about college prospects but if the brass loves a guy way more than the other options left, say Brian Thomas as an example, I'm good with giving up a fourth and maybe a third to get him. We should have an extra third because of Edmunds, right?
  8. I’d like to see things happen faster as well, but it will get done because it has too. People keep mentioning Beane’s poor drafting, because Rousseau and a few others haven’t reached star status. I’m going to have to respectfully disagree. Beane has done a solid job drafting especially lately. This past season we have 6 starters, all good, from the last two draft classes alone. Benford is a solid NFL starting CB from the 6th round. Shakir is a 5th pick. Kincaid is on his way to stardom and maybe Benard as well. His first class in 2018 features 7 guys still in the NFL including pro-bowlers/All Pros Allen, Edmunds, Taron Johnson (4th rd) and Wyatt (5th rd). Phillips is now a solid starter for the Vikings. When I look at the draft, I think a GM needs to find potential starters or major contributors in the first 3 rounds. Finding contributors or even starters after that is gravy. The only true busts are Basham and Ford with the jury being out on Elam. Truthfully his biggest mistake was letting Teller get away. For the Rousseau bashers, did you know he played his off side this entire season because of Miller and still graded out as one of best players each week?
  9. Still waiting for someone to prove this is true? They have 2+ starters coming out of every draft and various role players lol They couldn't be where they are if they were drafting poorly - not finding superstars in the 2nd half of RD1 isn't poor drafting either. 2017 White/Dawkins/Milano 2018 Allen/Johnson + Edmunds, Phillips, Neal 2019 Oliver/Knox + Singletary 2020 Davis/Bass/Jackson + Epenesa 2021 Rousseau/Brown 2022 Cook/Bernard/Shakir/Benford + Spector 2023 Kincaid/Torrence
  10. Adam Schefter on X: "Eagles are releasing safety Kevin Byard, per source. Eagles acquired Byard from the Titans last October in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft along with safety Terrell Edmunds. https://t.co/uClJ0gOYCc" / X (twitter.com)
  11. I don't think Beane has made a habit of over-paying players...with the exception of Knox, which I still don't understand. The contracts for the most part are fair market value. If the idea is to draft and develop your own players, then second contracts are to be expected. Oliver's deal was a bargain as was Tre's ultimately. We let Edmunds walk. The free agent contracts...namely Von's was a stab at signing a difference maker that could get the Bills over the hump. It looked like it would until the Detroit game. So you definitely could question the free agent contracts and extending aging players. That is not a sustainable strategy.
  12. I guess we can disagree, but I never considered Charvarious Ward more than an average cornerback. To me, he would be the equivalent of us letting Gabe Davis walk this offseason. Not really a key piece or type of player they would sorely miss. Someone else also mentioned Frank Clark, who was already over the hill when they let him leave. He didn't even sign with anyone until late October, and even then signed for just over the vet minimum. Which homegrown players do you believe the Bills SHOULD have let walk instead of paying them in free agency? Tre White? Matt Milano? Dion Dawkins? Taron Johnson? Ed Oliver? All of these players were great re-signings by the Bills. And looking back, all could even be considered bargains compared to their market value had they actually hit the market. They let Tremaine Edmunds walk and it turned out to be 100% the right decision. Again. The Bills have literally ONE major free agent contract we can realistically complain about. Von Miller. And based on 6-7 years of trends, it's pretty obvious that signing was very uncharacteristic by Brandon Beane. This is not something he or the Bills regularly do. He tried making a big splash to get over the hump, and then went right back to a low-key/conservative signings in 2023. That's why I think these complaints are ridiculous. The way Beane manages his salary cap and the way Brett Veach runs his are actually VERY similar. Both try building through the draft first. Both are usually low-key in free agency, with the occasional exception (a great example for the Chiefs is Joe Thuney). Both do their best to re-sign their best players, but won't break the bank to do it. Both are forced yearly to restructure contracts to make cap space. The Bills-Chiefs are literally a toss-up over the last 3 seasons. Every single game between them has come down to 1-2 plays. It sucks that we keep coming out on the short-hand in the playoffs. But that doesn't prove their team OR their front office is vastly superior. It's much much closer than anyone wants to give us credit for.
  13. Outside of Tyreek Hill, there aren't really any great examples of the Chiefs being willing to move on from their top players. It was really a one-time thing, because they desperately needed to upgrade the O-Line and simply couldn't afford to keep him. If the Bills were forced to trade away one of their best players in middle of their Super Bowl window, the fans would have screamed about bad roster management. And in moving on from Hill, their WR group has been amongst the NFL's worst over the past two years. The lack of weapons almost did them in this year. People are looking at the Bills cap situation vs. the Chiefs cap situation, and acting like they have a superior front office because they have more space. The difference is that Kansas City's pending free agents are Chris Jones and La'Jarius Sneed, along with their starting Left Tackle Donovan Smith, their other starting Defensive Tackle Derrick Nnadi and starting linebacker Willie Gay. Along with another 15-20 depth players. Not remotely the same situation. The Bills have been able to develop AND keep the majority of their best players. I'm not sure why we are applauding their cap management, because they are possibly losing their best cornerback. How much credit do the Bills get for getting a 3rd Round comp pick for Tremaine Edmunds, while at the same time upgrading him with Terrell Bernard? If the ball doesn't bounce off Darrel Luter's foot during the punt return, the Chiefs do not win the Super Bowl. If Zay Flowers stretches one more inch before fumbling into the endzone, the Chiefs do not win the AFC. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to diminish the Chiefs accomplishment. They are a great team and deserve the Lombardi. But neither of those plays had anything to do with superior roster/cap management over the rest of the NFL. The Chiefs front office should get credit for putting together a roster consistently good enough to compete for the Super Bowl every year. That isn't easy. But so should the Buffalo Bills, 49ers, Ravens, etc. The difference between those teams is literally 1-2 lucky plays.
  14. They did find money for Miller, but that was a lauded move to try to put the team over the top after they lost to the Chiefs 42-36. The thought was he could be a piece to take us over the top, and Davis would develop into a #2 next to Diggs. Miller is an unfortunate result, but I dont blame them for taking that chance at that time. I dont think they have made many concerning deals over the past 3 years. What "well he is our guy and he earned it" deals have they had? Knox? He is a top 10 TE even with his catching problems, and that deal was made before we brought in Kincaid. Milano? Worth it. White? Injuries, but when healthy has played incredibly well. Oliver? Worth it. We let Edmunds go, and that has shown to be a great move. You can't expect a GM to operate to perfection. They have a hole a WR2 because no team in the league is perfect. We will see if they can address it via the draft, and move onto the other areas that have become weaknesses (Safety, D-End).
  15. This is the sneakiest way to get Edmunds back I've seen yet. We gotta do it. He's still so young ..
  16. We essentially gave up the comp pick that we would have had extra from Edmunds for Douglas. Long term, yes that's a loss. Over the short term and what the team needed for last year it was an acceptable gamble IMO. Going into this season, we really could use that almost $10M in cap space. I like Douglas, think he could have a great year this season but am OK moving on.
  17. The philosophical difference between you and me is that your posts are based solely on what you'd like and what you would do (even if it's downright impossible). My posts are based more on what I think Beane would do, based on his words and track record of addressing needs via the Draft and Free Agency and how he manages the cap. In 2022, we were in a similar position at CB that we are at WR. And we were in a better position cap wise and roster wise than we are this year. He took Elam in Round 1 and for the double dip, he waited until Round 6 with Benford. On the flip side in your favor, he did take Greg Rousseau in Round 1 and then took Boogie Basham in Round 2 in 2021. But the difference between that season, what we did in 2022, and this season is that we had decent cap space and spent a lot of money that year filling all of our other holes to a point where we could afford to do that. I'm not a guy who thinks we should go DL in Round 1 like many others. But I also simply don't see a scenario where he spends 28 and 60 on one single position this season. Especially in a scenario where he's giving up picks in Rounds 3 or 4 to trade up to address that position already. See, I knew you were going to do this. Hear that and ignore everything else. I'll have to wait and see the full Presser for the whole context and quote. But much like McDermott, I'd imagine he's replying to a specific question about it from Sal and not just going off about it himself. I'm POSITIVE if he was asked what he's looking for in a WR and not just "are you looking for explosiveness" - you wouldn't hear him say "just explosiveness - that's it. I don't care about anything else". Beane ALWAYS takes guys who are athletic specimens and checks not just one box he's looking for, but as close to all of them as he can. He'll even take guys who are considered more developmental projects (like Edmunds, Elam, Rousseau) that have great size and/or measurements and he sees fitting what he looks for in the position before taking guys who have better college tape. You don't have to hear him say what he's looking for to replace Gabe Davis to know what he's looking for. Yes, he is looking for speed and explosiveness. But if they don't have the adequate measurements or don't have the adequate usage and application in College to fit the role - it doesn't matter. And Worthy, as fun as he looks (btw how much of the highlight reel that you're drooling over with him is Special Teams?) - does not check enough other boxes to fit WR2, possible future #1. He's a gadget type playmaker that doesn't have close to full time Outside usage. That's what we're looking for exclusively. Not a guy that we'd have to remove Shakir or Kincaid from the field close to half of the time. If Worthy had more usage on the outside and had better size, it wouldn't be a question. He'd be up there with Thomas Jr. There's a reason he's looked at as a mid to late 2nd Round guy. And those reasons disqualify him in my eyes as a potential WR2 for a Brandon Beane led office.
  18. This. I love this balanced assessment. I was not a big fan of Edmunds, but I found myself defending him in casual conversations because, despite his lack of big plays here, he did cause headaches for QBs because of his length and speed. 100% I will take Bernard over him, especially since I expect Bernard to improve and I agree with your statement that the best QBs were less impacted by Edmunds.
  19. Bernard is just learning the things that Edmunds did well, but as someone else pointed out earlier, Bernard has the added ability to make the big play. I'll take a few mistakes here and there for a guy who can make a drive-stopping play. Last season Bernard had 143 tackles (84 solo), 6.5 sacks, 3 Fumble recoveries, 3 Ints, and 10 tackles for loss. That's an amazing season for anyone, much less a 2nd-year pro and 1st year starter. Edmunds has never had a stat line close to this good. Edmunds only has 6.5 sacks for his career. his best solo tackle season was his rookie year with 80, and he only has 1 FR for his career. When this kid learns more about O schemes and how to shed blocks faster, he'll be a great LB. He also needs to possibly get a little bigger. Pro-football-reference lists Bernard as 6'1 224. Edmunds is 6'5 250.
  20. End of the day - you beat good QBs with guys like bernard making a play here and there. Edmunds closing throwing lanes is valuable, but its less valuable when you're playing a good QB who can either still find the window, or buy enough time to create one.
  21. The best way to avoid salary cap hell is by drafting well. The Saints were headed into a very bad financial situation several years back. But then the 2017 draft class netted them 5 very good starters (Lattimore, Ramczyk, Williams, Kamara and Hendrickson). That allowed them to extend their window significantly. Brandon Beane has been a solid/good drafter during his tenure here, regardless of what some fans say. He consistently gets 2-3 starting caliber players every single year, allowing the team to replace outgoing veterans (such as Tremaine Edmunds with Terrell Bernard) and get little to no drop-off. I'm confident the same thing will happen this season. What the Bills could REALLY use is a homerun draft. Something closer to what 2017-2018 netted us. Instead of getting 2-3 solid guys, if we could end up with 4-5. Instead of just being solid starters, maybe we could get an All-Pro or two in the mix. It would also be nice for rookies to make a more immediate impact. It seems like the majority of Beane's picks are slow-burners. They do little to nothing as rookies and then take 3-4 years to really get going. The most recent examples are Ed Oliver and AJ Epenesa.
  22. If Bernard and Edmunds were making the same exact amount of money, I’d rather have Bernard on this team, all day everyday, 10/10. Buscaglia and Joe Marino’s guy has never had a nose for the ball.
  23. I guess I read that as a "whatever." When they let Edmunds walk, I wasn't that worried about replacing him. One of the big highlights of last season was watching all the kids thrive; Kincaid, Torrence, Cook, Shakir, Benford, and Benard. They are a huge reason that I'm perfectly ok with letting Davis walk and replacing him and the depth receivers with kids. This team desperately needs a youth movement and we have enough veteran leaders in the clubhouse to help more kids succeed. Truthfully, the vast majority of the FA signings throughout the lineup under-performed. Just look at the grades for Sherfield, Phillips, Rapp, Lawson, Murray, Miller and Settle. PFF also gave sub-par grades to Harty and Ford. Outside of Jones, Dodson, Floyd, and Edwards in limited usage, the FAs haven't excelled.
  24. No one could reasonably disagree with your vanilla characterization of Joe B's incomplete assessment of Bernard's play...but that in no way acknowledges the gratuitous Edmunds analogy I am highlighting so we don't ignore the WTF inclusion of such an arbitrary axe to grind...
