  1. Roger I don't remember, was there that much support for Rosen over Allen? As to Coleman, maybe I'm off, but the majority angle here anyway appears to be positive? No? Exactly! But as to the scouting departments, consider how many times they're off. So no, I don't necessarily trust them anymore than I trust anyone else. My track record, the public one, is better than theirs on the top picks anyway. It's largely because I don't care if I'm wrong on a few, I call it as I see it. I'm not trying to keep a job doing that and therefore hiding behind the prevailing analyses. Here's the thing, when reviewing players, I far too often see the end results of assessments/analyses highlighting only the highlights, which again, are often against competition that's not typically found in the NFL, or situations that aren't. Point being, it's our professional "expert" scouting staff(s) that produced the likes of players in rounds 1 & 2 like Rousseau, Basham, Ford, Zay Jones, Lawson, Darby, Ragland, Watkins, Kouandjio, Spiller, Troupe, Hardy, and others. I offered my diametric dissension on a bunch of those, at least insofar as being drafted in rounds 1 or 2 went, and particularly players like Watkins and Jones (and now Coleman by similar standards), and Hardy from years prior. Sure I've been off, but not as much as the professionals. So I'm quite comfortable with my methodologies and I'd be happy to put 'em up against anyone in the business, at least for the handful of picks that I do look at. I make my mistakes, just not as frequently. I was big on Edmunds, but so were they, obviously. But you're right, none of it matters, and I didn't say the above as a LAM, just to say that I trust my own anaylses more than I trust those of others, again, for the picks that I actually spend time on. In fairness, media guys don't have that kind of time to analyze a couple hundred players like that, but entire scouting departments should have all the time in the world, particularly for the players that they're heavily interested in. So no excuses at all there. And they travel to games too.
  2. Bernard is just learning the things that Edmunds did well, but as someone else pointed out earlier, Bernard has the added ability to make the big play. I'll take a few mistakes here and there for a guy who can make a drive-stopping play. Last season Bernard had 143 tackles (84 solo), 6.5 sacks, 3 Fumble recoveries, 3 Ints, and 10 tackles for loss. That's an amazing season for anyone, much less a 2nd-year pro and 1st year starter. Edmunds has never had a stat line close to this good. Edmunds only has 6.5 sacks for his career. his best solo tackle season was his rookie year with 80, and he only has 1 FR for his career. When this kid learns more about O schemes and how to shed blocks faster, he'll be a great LB. He also needs to possibly get a little bigger. Pro-football-reference lists Bernard as 6'1 224. Edmunds is 6'5 250.
  3. They may not be better, but they may not be worse. I think Curtis Samuel is actually an upgrade over Davis, who disappeared during long stretches of the season. Not to mention shakir actually outplayed Diggs the last 10 games of the season. Is it that far fetched that a rookie can’t come in and play very well? Also let’s not forget that Samuel and said rookie will add speed to the outside which we have been severely lacking. This will help Kincaid, shakir, and cook be more effective underneath. Some people on here lost their minds when Edmunds was not resigned. I knew then that he could be replaced. (Bernard was better) People need to stop being married to the “name” of a player and look at the production. Fact Bills were 6-1 without Diggs being the main focal point. This was absolutely the right call. As a matter of fact I am saying that the bills offense will be every bit as good if not better this season.
  4. Edmunds: 875 snaps; 100% 10 weeks, missed 2 games with 0%. Garrapolo: 325 snaps; 100$ 4 weeks, missed 10 games with 0%. Bates: 1133 snaps; 100% 15 weeks. Hargrave: 730 snaps; no snap count over 71%. Missed 2 weeks. Taylor: 1076 snaps https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks Morris and Ryans/Carthon really must be something special to impact the game played by players.
  5. So I know the Bills are expected to get a comp pick for Edmunds in the 3rd. I see there are comp picks in all the other lower rounds too at the way down to the 7th. Wondering what does a team have to lose to only get say a 6th or 7th round comp pick? The water boy?? Chain gang? And I assume the Bills have no shot at any of those??
  6. I hear you both that defense is a question mark. But then, last season with losing Edmunds and not having a clear cut MLB or Von Miller to start the season and with Tre White as a giant ? based on the end of 2022, I thought our defense was iffy and our offense would have to carry us (which, I thought it could) Turned out it was the other way around - our defense was solid until we lost Tre, DaQuan and Milano, with Floyd playing great in place of Miller and Tre back to his old form. Our offense was tenuous with splendid plays offset by miscues. I think the D will be O.K. provided Milano is back to form and we get SOMETHING from Von Miller besides interviews and podcasts. Both the guys we brought in at S (Rapp and Edwards) can play, so can Douglas and Benford. Injuries are a huge question right now, as we're thin behind the starters. I guess from that, my learning is I have more faith in McDermott and Beane to bring forward a defense that works no matter what and to add what they need if they don't, than I do in them to devote enough resources and have the right OC and players in place on offense.
  7. Because it would appear based on the 9ers also having the Jimmy G pick that was equally predicted as a third knocked down (see they were affected too) that time missed has taken both Edmunds and Garropolo out of the 3rd round range they were in by contract value and reduced them to round 4. And it has happened within weeks of the season ending. This coming Sunday will be 4 weeks on from the Superbowl.
  8. At what point do you actually point the finger at players? 2019: Neal drops an easy pick in Hou territory. Neal later misses a huge sack, we had Watson with 2 guys in backfield 2020: Colts was a bad defensive effort. Players/coaches alike. Ravens, I thought we had a good gameplan. Chiefs, another ok gameplan but our front 4 got totally manhandled 2021: dominate Pats. Missing our best player/all pro Tre killed us against a lethal offense. Our pass rush never showed up, Edmunds looked lost on the field. Milano/Levi blow a coverage during "13 seconds", allowing Kelce to get into FG range 2022: Cincys backup IOL just flat out bullied our DTs. 3-4 key injuries (Daquan, Hyde, Poyer, Tre hobbled). Frazier scheme played scared too 2023: Played Steelers well. Again DL folded, when we needed them to step up. 4-5 key injuries, Benford, Lame Rasul, Bernard, Milano, Daquan/Von still battling at far less than 100% So yeah. Our DL has choked against KC, Cincy, KC again. Too many injuries in 2023 especially, can't stop a Mahomes led offense with the MASH unit we fielded. Coach isn't the reason IMO. If you think we are going to somehow create confusion and blitz Mahomes/etc, nobody wins that way. They have success bc their front 4 causes enough disruption and have a solid back 7. Our front 4 has got blown off the ball by the wind it seems, past few playoff losses
  9. I guess I kind of think the opposite of this. The time for me to burn draft picks would have been while Josh was in his lower cap years. We kind of need the picks to hit now to manage the finances unfortunately. In the low cap hit years we are able to grab a Von Miller type player or two, now there is less overhead and more reliance on smaller vet contracts coming in. I am thinking he is going to try and leverage Josh's talent as much as possible and I thought it was an interesting point when he said he needs a selfless guy in this offense. Not sure if the top guys are that, but that's just because of my ignorance. I'm guessing they have identified a few guys who fit the mold they're looking for and I wouldn't be surprised if they're 2nd and lower round guys. The big swing, if taken, will be a deviation from Beane's normal mantra. Will be interesting to see if he is feeling a little pressure to dump some future resources into this year. I thought it was awesome when he positioned us to not give up any future picks when moving up for josh/Edmunds and I think it just underscores his natural aversion to giving the next years picks up. Always room for a tendency breaker though. Can't wait to see on Thursday.
  10. First of all, no one is calling Houston "crap". Everyone here recognizes they've got an excellent-looking young QB and are a team on the rise. They could be the 2020 Bills. Second, "every time a guy leaves"? Nonsense. We wished Jerry Hughes and Singletary well, going to the Texans. Wished Moss well with the Colts. McKenzie got dunked on, but then he got dunked on while he was here, no one dunked on the Colts. Edmunds - mixed reactions mostly "not worth that contract" followed by "but who we got at MLB?" Hodgins - rampant and disproportionate nostalgia. Beasley - gratitude for what he'd done for the team and Josh, mixed reactions between people who thought he'd been "done wrong" for his personal views and people who thought he was "done" and it was time. Tre' White - tears. Gabe Davis and Mitch Morse - total respect. And don't get me started on Wyatt Teller. You're either not being truthful to us, or not truthful to yourself.
  11. I don't know enough about college prospects but if the brass loves a guy way more than the other options left, say Brian Thomas as an example, I'm good with giving up a fourth and maybe a third to get him. We should have an extra third because of Edmunds, right?
  12. Jones has truly lost his mind and obviously is desperate. Let’s be frank, biologically his time to get another title is running out. If you want to see a very interesting talk about paying players , check out belichicks video just posted on YouTube on the macafee show which is 35 min long. It’s a great insight into contracts and how to look at the early season and even his analysis of this ridiculous dynamic kickoff situation. Belichicks insight on contracts and preseason evaluations is really interesting , like paying a db too much in Atlanta. He believed you prioritize your best player , usually your qb , and you can’t create problems by overpaying others who might have good stats , but perhaps aren’t really true game impacting players. IMO, the COWBOYS have done nothing special with CeeDee , and without researching it , I think he tends to play soft and can miss time and it’s very hard to justify he is worth 34 mil a year. Bill quoted parcells saying “ it’s not about who has the best team , it’s about which team is playing the best “ , referring to December and the playoffs. You don’t need superstars , you need a TEAM , playing its best football in DECEMBER AND JANUARY.. I think this type of contract is an indicator of why the boys have continued to fall short of expectations. Jones wants to find his” aikman , smith , Irvin “ past and I guess he thinks by just paying his qb/ wr like those HOF’s, they will somehow play up to that type of worth. It’s become laughable, but at the same time a kick in the nuts to fans who are asked to support ridiculous ticket increases / psl’s etc , as it’s obvious these owners now are capable of printing money and it seems limitless when more of these insane contracts like we are seeing keep popping up. Atlanta and Dallas look like they have lost touch with reality, compared to Beane ( outside of the miller debacle ), even despite things like paying Bass perhaps too early and the diggs questionable ROI, he at least seems to have an equitable pay structure in place and you don’t see many holdouts or contract squabbles affecting the franchise. Bill also stated how the first few weeks of the season mean very little as you don’t really even know your own team yet , and I think this is really going to come into play with the BILLS. It takes time to learn your players and team, and he stated the preseason itself means nothing regarding really evaluating a players value to the team , as it takes 3-4 weeks of evaluation when teams actually are game planning and trying to attack certain players. That’s when good players show up in those 5 weeks early in the season. It’s after those weeks when you see which teams / players are really prepared to play. It’s an interesting 35 min with Bill , title on YouTube is BILL BELICHICKS BRUTALLY HONEST ASSESSMENT OF THE KICKOFF, CEEDEE CONTRACT , and its cool to see him relaxed, not hooded , actually sharing honest thoughts for once as it’s such a contrast from his usual pressers. Again tho , imo , these contracts are ridiculous ( Bill pointed out the Atlanta db HASN’T had an Int in 2 years! Yes he has pbu’s , but to BILL, that’s not as impacting as int’s.). Remind you of anything like those who valued Edmund’s so much for pbu’s or he “ prevented teams “ from throwing in an area ; yet tfl’s , sacks, ints and tangible impact plays were not his strength. Anyhow , I’ve Hated the boys since sb 27/28 , so hoping this is another flop move by Jerry and the boys keep proving he has lost his football mind! For us , no need to panic early , just keep figuring it out and be the best team ( including the kicking game ) in late December and January just one time! Go Bills!
  13. You're right. Dion Dawkins Spencer Brown Ed Oliver Dalton Kincaid Tre White Tremaine Edmunds O'Cyrus Torrence Taron Johnson Matt Milano Greg Rosseau Cody Ford Devin Singletary James Cook Christian Benford None of the above played as rookies. There hasn't been a more accurate statement on this board because the above list proves it. Even though Josh Allen did play, he was supposed to sit and learn but was put in earlier because we were bad at that position.
  14. Yes explaining how Jimmy G has more of an impact on the raiders when he was benched half the season over Tremaine Edmunds who started every game for the bears is mind boggling and after this news. I also think Beane is either 1 more active in free agency then he first thought or 2 now possibly plans on trading back to early round 2 to recomp a 3rd
  15. Bengals fans are mad because they lost their starting safeties and only get two 6th round picks. I don’t know how much those two signed for in FA, but Beane was careful to navigate the cap to ensure we’d get a 3rd for Edmunds $18M/yr contract. He said he even spoke to people to make sure his signings weren’t jeopardizing that. Something does feel wrong here.
  16. YOOOOO...but what about this obvious and bizarre and IRRELEVANT insertion of posthumous narrative spin about Tremaine effing Edmunds?! (Used to unnecessarily mitigate Bernard's NOT TERRIBLE ranking (22) -- just a sad remnant of local contrarianism)
  17. If Bernard and Edmunds were making the same exact amount of money, I’d rather have Bernard on this team, all day everyday, 10/10. Buscaglia and Joe Marino’s guy has never had a nose for the ball.
  18. Exactly, I remember that most of this fan base wanted the Bills to trade up to the #2 spot with the NY Giants in 2018 to draft Josh Rosen! How much of a mistake would that have been by giving up the farm for a bum? It could happen at WR too. If this is a such rich WR draft class why feel the need to move up to get one as there are 12 WRs listed in DJ's top 50 players? https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2024-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-2-0 While other teams are scrambling to find that elusive franchise QB or pass rusher, or OT. Buffalo could sit tight and get a really good player at 28. OR trade back and pick up that extra 3rd rounder that they lost with the Edmunds moved from a 3rd to a 4th. The Green Bay Packers have made a living out of drafting WRs in the second round. What about Puka Nacua in the 5th last year? The only position that currently is worrisome to me is the center position by losing Mitch Morse, who called the offensive protections and was a stable force at that position since 2019 and was a pro bowler.
  19. So you think it was stupid for the Bills to pick up the 5th year on Josh correct? Just want to understand your position clearly. That was stupid correct? I do get you give the player leverage by picking up the option but for the right player it can absolutely make sense but you also pick up some leverage. The players hate it which is probably means it's good for the teams. I will also just point out that with Edmunds it is simply your opinion he was not worth the $12M, one year later he got $18M and he did not change in any significant way. It is also just your opinion he outperformed the $12M so much in year 5 that his market was now 35% higher. I agree his 5th year was his best year but he did not blow years 1-4 out of the water so much that he went from 35% below a $12M AAV to 35% above that. The Bills probably tried extending him and could not agree on the price so they lived with the 5th year option, it was not some terrible value. See Knox and Miller if you want to see bad values. Edmunds has always been a polarizing player for Bills fans and has never had as many impact plays as people expect of him, not in years1-4, 5 or last year with Chicago.
  20. Adam Schefter on X: "Eagles are releasing safety Kevin Byard, per source. Eagles acquired Byard from the Titans last October in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft along with safety Terrell Edmunds. https://t.co/uClJ0gOYCc" / X (twitter.com)
  21. I like the idea of a trade down to the early 2nd round and grabbing two WRs. I don't think trading for one of the top 3 WRs is realistic. Or at least not a good idea. If the Bills give up 28, 60, 2025 1, 2 how do they fix the rest of the team? Our DEs are Rousseau and Von. Next year we pay $13mil for Rousseau if we want to keep him. After that he probably costs $20mil/year and gets a Tremaine Edmunds type contract for someone I think is a good player who is going to get paid like an all pro. We are going to need at least 1 probably 2 starting DEs. Our safeties are Rapp & Edwards. We have no O-line or CB depth. We have $5mil in cap space next year with only 38 players on the roster, 2024/2025 rookies not accounted for, and Rasul Douglas & Spencer Brown as free agents we might want to re-sign. If we trade up to the top of the draft for a WR and have no 1st or 2nd round picks and no cap space how do we even start fixing the defense until 2026/2027?
  22. Teams make trades they don’t work out all the time. Remember when the eagles traded Edmunds and two picks for Byard? Remember how that made Howie Roseman a genius? The Eagles just released him. Half a season of a guy that didn’t put them over the hump at all cost them a 4th and a 6th. Sometimes you take a swing and miss.
  23. No one could reasonably disagree with your vanilla characterization of Joe B's incomplete assessment of Bernard's play...but that in no way acknowledges the gratuitous Edmunds analogy I am highlighting so we don't ignore the WTF inclusion of such an arbitrary axe to grind...
  24. It's mystifying. Edmunds was the fourth highest-paid LB last year and received the fifth biggest contract in FA in 2023. Is it all based on position? If so, LB is below D-line, o-line, WR, and QB in terms of AAV paid. The fact that the Bengals only got sixths for losing two top-level safeties suggestions that positional worth might be a factor. Bengals got only sixths for the two very good safeties they lost. I am starting to think that overall positional value plays a role.
  25. Sorry but most fans have no loyalty to the players, personally I think your statement is way off. Players are always made out to be the enemy - Diggs, Miller, Edmunds, going back to players like Mario Williams....all of these guys ended up on fans sh*t lists. Most people are fans of teams, not of players. Teams aren't loyal to the players, why should the players be loyal to the team? Both sides know it's a business, and they are loyal up to a certain point.
