Marv Levy met Bill Walsh when the 2 coached together on the Cal staff back in the day. Trent Edwards met Bill Walsh while playing football at Stanford. Bill Walsh was enamored with Edwards' personality, play and work ethic on the football field. Trent did not have a very good college career, but he was a hell of a player, and Walsh knew that. The draft was approaching and Walsh knew all about Trent, but probably thought his stats hurt his draft stock. Bill Walsh called the teams that would listen about Trent Edwards. Walsh's old buddy Marv Levy needed a QB in Buffalo. Marv Levy and the Bills studied Edwards and they noticed something special... Have you been following me? That is not hard to understand, now is it? Can you draw your own conclusion from there...?

Some thoughts and opinions...
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just meant that he would not be the type of player that fits in the Bills' locker room. I think we are better off without him. Didn't we trade a 1st rounder to Dallas and spend a 1st rounder on Losman? Idk, sorry if I am confused. I figured the Simeon Rice thing was a joke after the fact, he might still be worth a "Look." (Depending on shape/health) If McCargo stays on the team now, he might play his a$$ off to show we almost made a mistake. His hernia could be the problem that has been causing him to play like a bum. I think he has "it" in him to be at least a "role" player. I totally agree with the impact Tight End idea. I think that is our top priority this coming off-season. Leonard Pope of the Cardinals would not be a bad Free Agent signing. What I want most is...it may be crazy...but, I want to draft TE Jermaine Gresham from Oklahoma, with our 1st Round pick. He runs a solid 40-time, is 6-6/250, and will only be 21 years old. Why don't I have the right to express my feelings, thoughts, ideas and opinions, in my own thread? Who the hell are you? You have no right to tell me what to do, or how to do what I do. If you don't care, then don't bother to read through it and make doosh-bag comments. What the !@#$ kind of knowledge do you have? Share something insightful. You are welcome. Thank YOU. --->FIXED ESPN's 1st and 10...Lack of respect? Once again, who cares? Skip frickin' Bayless...is CLUELESS! He is a complete grundel muncher. I have always loved ESPN and watched it faithfully...but now, I could care less. I watch PTI because I like Wilbon and Korheiser, that's about it. Even the Hockey segments are weak now without Melrose, but I have ALWAYS been a Barnaby fan! Either way, the national media ignores the Bills. The only time we get softly spoken of, is when Kevin Everett gets severly injured or Marshawn Lynch runs over some woman in his SUV. The Raiders and the Rams were in the spotlights because their coach was on the hot seat. We stood in the shadows. Jacksonville got attention because of their suffering run game and decimated offensive line. They were also supposed to be a "Contender" this year. We kept our mouths shut, went about our business and played our game. Against the Cardinals? Well, they were looking for revenge after Brett the Jet embarrassed them and Boldin had his lights turned off. This week? Oh, we are playing the team who beat the snot out of the Patriots. As for that...I will be there in all my glory! Bills 26 - Chargers 24 (Roscoe WILL play and be a factor) GO BILLS!!! I meant 2 guys who could become a starter for them in the future. Stanton was highly touted coming out, and Orlovsky was supposed to be a "Sleeper" pick. I think 1 of them will turn out to be a nice QB in the league. Now, judging my credability? Come on man. I make a small gramatical error, and you throw the rest of my analysis of the Lions team/franchise out the window? I do my research. I am confident with my football knowledge. Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate your kind gesture. -
These are my thoughts on some subjects I have seen floating around TBD: McCargo to the Colts? Who cares? Tough to take his speed and skill off my Defense in Madden '09. Honestly, I liked him and thought he had potential, but he just has not improved. I think that more playing time would have helped his cause. However, if we get at least a 4th for him...I will be happy with the trade. I sitll wish we kept him and gave him more time, but I wish him luck and will be rooting for him. As for the roster spot that is vacant, I would say they sign somebody. *Some people want to pick up DE Simeon Rice. I would not mind taking a look at him, he is a beast and could provide a nice pass-rush...but he think he is done, forever. Kitna Done / Williams to the Cowboys? I think that this was a good move by Detroit and a not-so-good move for Dallas. Detroit is obviously beginning its re-building process, before the season even ends. They dumped a large salary and cemented Calvin Johnson as their #1 WR. Although they only have Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald behind Johnson, both have proven that they are worth a shot to prove they are quality players. With a pickup of a #2 guy, this would be a good corp of receivers. With Kitna being done, they knew they couldn't win and Williams wanted out. They got rid of the unhappy camper, and have plenty of time to see who the next signal called will be. Both Orlovsky and Stanton should see time, and both have skills. They just drafted a Rookie RB in Kevin Smith and FB in Jerome Felton, as well as a Rookie RT in Gosder Cherilus. These 3 players, and Calvin Johnson are a decent foundation to build the offense on. I believe they have 2 future starters at QB. On Defense, they have some veteran leadership and some playmakers. Ernie Sims is going to be a Pro-Bowl player some day. DE Jared Devries, DT Cory Redding, DE DeWayne White, CB Travis Fisher, CB Leigh Bodden, S Dwight Smith and S Daniel Bullocks, are all sound players. Ikaika Alama-Francis is a young DE who should develope into a quality player. These players and Rookies LB Jordan Dizon, DT Andre Fluellen and DE Cliff Avril, should provide the Lions with a strong nucleus to re-build this team around. It should ALL starts with LB Ernie Sims/S Daniel Bullocks and WR Calvin Johnson/RB Kevin Smith. *Some people want to pick up Jon Kitna as a backup, he is done. Washed up. There are many more QBs out there who I would rather be our backup. Hamdan for one, deserves a shot at being a #2. He looked very good in Pre-Season. The Free Agent crop of Quarterbacks in 2009 will be...Kerry Collins, Jeff Garcia, Rex Grossman, Kyle Boller, Charlie Batch, Matt Cassel, J.P. Losman, Kyle Orton, Patrick Ramsey, J.T. O'Sullivan, Byron Leftwich and Kurt Warner. Why trade for Kitna, when we could sign 1 of these guys. I would prefer Warner or Collins. Then Cassel or Orton (Maybe Leftwich?). Gonzo to Buffalo? Again, who cares? I would rather have the ball in the hands of Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, Marshawn Lynch, Freddy Jackson, Josh Reed and James Hardy. Tony Gonzalez would have bitched every time one of them got the ball, and he didn't. He is also overpaid, and coming out of his prime, if he is not out already. He was definitly NOT worth a 3rd rounder (4th - yes), but I would have given nothing more than that, and maybe taken him for a 3rd straight up. I, for the most part, trust Robert Royal (for now), and I like Schouman. I also can't wait to see Derek Fine in action, I think he is going to be our TE for a long time. He was the top performer in this year's combine in the Bench-Press, the 3-Cone Drill and the 20 Yard Shuttle. Read all of this, the overview and analysis, then click on his skill times (under his picture). http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/derek-...le-tab-overview We Suck @ 1st Round Picks? I am only going back 11 drafts, to the NFL draft of 1998. Since then, there has been 11 drafts, 2 in which we did not have a 1st round choice. I decided to start with this draft, because this is about when everything started changing. Our Front Office diasters, tremendous increases in player salaries and the extremes booms during Free Agency. In 1998 we had no 1st rounder, but for the next 5 years, we went 3 for 5. We certainly "HIT" with CB Antoine Winfield ('99) and CB Nate Clements ('01), who were both Pro-Bowl caliber players. In 2000 and 2002, our decision making was horrendous, choosing DE Erik Flowers and RT Mike Williams. 2003 was a controversial draft with the selection of RB Willis McGahee. However, I would say we "HIT" on that selection. He provided Buffalo with a lot of excitement while running the football. He also netted us two 3rd round draft picks, when we were ready to replace him. Injuries aside, he was a hell of a player...even for us. In 2004 we "HIT" with big-play WR Lee Evans. We then acquired a 2nd pick in the first round, and chose QB J.P. Losman. We had no 1st round draft pick in 2005, but in 2006 and 2007 we "HIT" big time! The NFL draft of 2006 brought us SS Donte Whitner, and the draft of 2007 replaced the much despised Willis McGahee, with battering buffalo RB Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch. As for 2008, we will have to wait and see, but I think CB/KR/PR Leodis McKelvin will be a stud in the league. It is WAY TO early to tell. Overall, I would say our Front Office has "HIT" more times than it has picked a "bust." I trust in the F.O. very much. *NOTE - I am not a J.P. "Hater," but I do think he was a "Bust" as he cost TWO 1st Round draft picks. ESPN's 1st and 10...Lack of respect? Once again, who cares? Skip frickin' Bayless...is CLUELESS! PacMan suspended? Here we go again...who cares. I am surprised he was not kicked out of the league forever. His Criminal Record is longer than my 9 year old and 6 year old nephews' Christmas and Birthday list all COMBINED. The only thing I can draw from this is, why didn't the Cowboys go after Secondary help (Corner or Safety), instead of a Wide Receiver. I wonder if they might have ever contacted Buffalo about Jabari Greer. They sure know how good he is, after he shut down T.O. last year on Monday Night Football. I am glad he is still a Buffalo Bill. He is one of my favorites. Joe Thomas vs. Jason Peters? I cannot believe that somebody would compare these two. Joe Thomas came out of college as the Top-Rated Offensive Linemen. He was drafted 3rd overall. In College he was twice an All-American 1st Team Left Tackle, and he won the Outland Trophy for being the Nation's Best Offensive Lineman, while playing at Wisconsin. He went to the Pro-Bowl as a Rookie Left Tackle. Joe Thomas is a 6'6, 313 lbs, 23 year old "Blue Collar" boy from Wisconsin. On the other hand, Jason Peters is a 26 year old laid-back urban kind of fella. He is 6'4, 340 lbs. Peters was a 2nd Team All-Sec his Senior year at Arkansas. He was signed as an Undrafted Free Agent Tight End by Buffalo in 2004. In 2007 he was named to the All-Pro team and was invited to the Pro-Bowl, where he did not participate. *It is clear to me that Joe Thomas is BY FAR the better player, however he SHOULD be. Jason Peters has not played much football in his life, and he is still learning and improving. I am happy with the Peters from last year. --->I did some research to back up my opinions and thoughts. I in no way, meant to upset anyone or make it seem like I was trying to prove you wrong. I just wanted to reply to too many threads.

Not when they already have Orlovsky and Stanton on the roster. They will also have some very nice draft picks, with some very good quality QBs coming out in this year's draft. Losman does not offer much more than those 2 named above, except for a little more scrambling ability and some rotten experience.

The first thing that came to my mind when Angelo Crowell got place on IR, was "Let's sign Takeo Spikes back. I think it would have been a better move production wise, for him to replace Ellison. Or, to have Mitchell move to LOLB and have Spikes go into the ROLB spot. One can dream. They got a nice tandem in Willis and Takeo. Not to mention Haralson and the other young guy they got.

We have our work cut out for us, and we are faced with some adversity...let's see how this young team comes together and rallies behind their coach, to deal with what's been going on (performance, injuries). I think this team has many plays in the playbook, yet to be seen. The first 4 games, we didn't need to lay everything on the table. Last week we might have displayed more, but everything went out the window when Trent got hurt. I just think when the Offensive Line gets it together and Trent comes back, there will be a major difference in our play-calling. Marshawn, Evans and Parrish (when healthy) will see the ball a lot more, Freddie will continue to be a weapon, James Hardy will step up and be utilized more, and I think Derek Fine (when healthy) will become a nice receiving target. I would really like to see Steve Johnson on the field, instead of Justin Jenkins. I would also like to see us sign a decent, fast/quick Defensive End. Or get Chris Ellis in the mix. John McCargo needs more reps being a 1st Rounder, and Spencer Johnson need to earn that decent size contract he received. Staying with the defensive line, I would like to see Perry use the package where he had everyone (d-line too) stand straight up. I think we used it in the Seattle game or the Jacksonville game. There might have been 1 DT who got in a stance, the 2 DE stood straight up, and everyone else was CB/S. The opposing Offensive line was extremely confused. I REALLY think we need to make a move to replace Ellison. He just seems too small and he can't tackle big backs. I also think that McKelvin should start in place of McGee, while he is out. McKelvin will most likely replace Jabari Greer next year, so he should be getting the reps and playing time, to learn and get comfortable. Youboty is excellent in the slot, and he can continue to build on that for next year. (At the same time, Youboty is doing so well. He may replace Greer, letting the coaching staff continue to work with McKelvin...I doubt it). Either way I am comfortable. I like McKelvin returning kicks. He is VERY good. Be patient it WILL come. We saw it throughout his college career, and we ALL saw it in the Pre-Season. He is great. He has potential that is off the charts, and speed/skills that is freakish. We all also saw, against the Rams, how tough and physical he can be. I like the kid. He makes some mistakes, but he is a Rookie, from Troy (a small school). We can afford to let him go through his growing pains early. In the end, it ALL lies on the shoulders of Trent Edwards and his coaches. Both have all the skill and potential that they need to produce a playoff team this year. Next year? We can worry about that in February. With a couple holes to fill, this team is quite solid. Once we grab a TE, C, OLB, OG...we will be "Contenders." * From here on out...I see it like this: vs. Chargers - W @ Dolphins - L (Trent won't be quite ready to go, so Losman starts. JP and Lee always have big games down there.) vs. Jets - W (Trent comes back...big game.) @ Patriots - L vs. Browns - W (Monday night...possibly very high scoring, a great game.) @ Chiefs - W vs. 49ers - W vs. Dolphins - W (In Toronto...either a blowout or it will be very close, down to the wire.) @ Jets - L @ Broncos - L vs. Patriots - W (Potentially a VERY important game...very excited I'm going!) Have a good rest of the week ya'all...the weekend is almost here! GO BILLS!

Hit on Edwards dirty?
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After seeing more replays and hearing that the NFL is looking into the hit, I am starting to second guess the thought that it was clean. He does seem to lead with his head, and continues to drive his head into Trent's, and into the ground. Idk...it could go either way. -
It wouldnt say much because in this league, anybody can beat anybody. Miam also lost to the Jets. Our division is wide open, but I believe that Buffalo is the best, most rounded team in the AFC East. Top-8 in the NFL. Certainly playoff worthy, and that is what I want most this season. I do not care how we get there. Getting to the playoffs with this young team would be monumental to the continuing improvement of this franchise. I really hope we put everything together and jell as an Offense, throughout the next 2 weeks. I am going to the San Diego game on October 19th, and it will be my first Regular Season game since Kansas City in 2005. Although, I did go to the Lions Pre-Season game this season, but that does not count. I also have tickets to the Patriots game on December 28th. Needless to say, I am pumped! Any suggestions to make my Game-Day experience the best it could be?

Bills Jeopardy
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to Bleed Bills Blue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Fowler played decent today. He had a BEAUTIFUL block on the Evans reverse. However, I think we need to replace Fowler before we replace Butler. -
I second that. *I fixed your quote for ya. Because we ALL know he is not a "VERY" good QB.
-
you are a waste of life who does not deserve to even post on a bills fan forum, let alone call yourself a fan. Trent would not have gotten hurt if some !@#$ would have picked up his block. but you are right, we need a new QB. we need a new QB who can bring us back in 3 straight games to win in the 4th quarter. we need a new QB who will step up in his 2nd year in the league, and be a vocal leader, as well as lead by example on the field. we need a new QB who has some smarts and makes wise decisions with the ball in his hand. we need a new QB who will be raved about throughout the league, in only his 1st full season as a starter. our QB has a horrible W/L record. get the !@#$ out of here. *just a side note...JP Losman's 87 yard TD pass, would not have looked so pretty if Lee Evans did not run such a solid route, with an amazing move at the line to juke the DB, which led to him being WIDE OPEN...good thing your boy Losman got the ball out there and made that play. Otherwise, he would have been cut tomorrow. Evans made that play happen. *just a thought...Losman has 1 INT and was sacked 5 times in 1 game. Edwards has 2 INTs in 4 games and has been sacked 7 times, all against better defenses. Our best chance to WIN is with Edwards under Center. Bottom line.
-
Most likely, yes. Once JP Losman stepped onto the field, the team lost faith. They lost their Captain QB, their leader!
-
Those blaming JP....??
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to YOOOOOO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense was not up to the task because they knew Losman would not be able to keep them off the field. On the other hand, Trent Edwards would have been up to a "big, late comeback." We would have had a BETTER chance of winning that game, had Edwards been in during the second half. He gets the job done, never gives up, and makes smart decisions. He also takes the blame for the things he does wrong, even some things that weren't his fault, he takes the blame like a man. I do like him, as a backup...but JP Losman will NEVER amount to anything besides a backup QB in this league. Teams don't want a guy that whines, complains and blames everyone else after he makes a mistake. -
Hit on Edwards dirty?
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it was not a dirty hit, it was a good/clean form tackle. Jerry...just out of curiousity, who is that chick with the stallion @$$ in your picture? WOW! -
I agree. I think the Cardinals are a pretty good team, they seem to be underrated somewhat. They have 2 very solid Running Backs (James/Hightower), 1 of the best WR corps in the league (Breaston and Doucet will be studs someday), Kurt Warner is a great field general and ball slinger, and their Tight End Leonard Pope is developing into a decent weapon, as is TE #2 Ben Patrick. Their Offensive Line has some solid starters in Levi Brown, Elton Brown and Deuce Lutui. If this team could fix their defense up a little bit, they would be 1 of the best in the NFC. They have great playmakers on Defense with Antrel Rolle, Adrian Wilson, Karlos Dansby, Geno Hayes, Darnell Dockett, Gabe Watson, Antonio Smith, Chike Okeafor, Travis Laboy and the injured Bertrand Berry. They also have 4 solid future starters in Rookies DE/DT Calais Campbell, LB Ali Highsmith, DE Kenny Iwebema and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. I also like their Head Coach, and the names mentioned above provide the Cardinals franchise with a solid foundation to build on for their future. The only question is...can Matt Leinart be the QB of the future that they badly need? *The Cardinals are my 2nd favorite team (besides the 'Skins), so I follow them quite closely.

Lee Evans locked up long-term
Wilson from Gamehendge replied to silvermike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lee Evans showed why he was paid and extended with that 87 yard TD catch. More importantly, he showed why he was paid when he juked the CB out of his jockstrap, at the beginning of that 87 TD catch. He also showed his speed on the end-around. With the route he ran on that deep ball (87 yd. td), do any of you critics think he is still overrated and not worth it? -

Why in the hell does Wendling just stand around on extra points? With his leaping ability, he should be jumping over top of the line to try and block the kick. I know this is something very minor, but I have noticed it the past 4 weeks. I figured he would be a kick blocking champ after seeing him hop over the line in a preseason game. Just a thought. -

This story completely sums up how I feel about this...and how we all should look at this move. http://www.wgrz.com/sports/story.aspx?storyid=61192 -
This guy actually looks like a hell of a prospect. I like his footwork, his agility, his footwork and his pop off the snap. He seems to be solid in both pass and run blocking. Continued improvement, will translate to playing on Sundays. How about this...trade Peters for draft picks, replace him with Herman Johnson. Or, Walker at LT and Johnson at RT. There ya go Peters haters...Problem solved.
