  1. Did ex-Patriots rough up high school kids? Charity organizer and former Patriots player Fred Smerlas is extending an olive branch to the high school students who felt they were roughed up at a basketball game last weekend, calling for a meeting with the students and players to reconcile their differences and possibly a second game to settle old scores. Smerlas, whose company, All Pro, participated in a charity game between former Patriots players and students at Nashoba Valley Regional High School on Saturday, said that he was surprised by the reaction to the game. Parents and students who participated in the game complained they were roughed up by the former pro football players, and that the players used vulgar language. The game was organized by the Stow Police Benevolent Association. The students signed up thinking they would be playing with the officers, but no officers showed up. per Boston Globe http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/nfl
  2. Besides Shanahan...as mentioned a few moments ago on ESPN NFL Live. Marc Trestman - succeeded Shanahan in San Francisco, was Assistant Head Coach of Dolphins in 2004. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Trestman Kevin Gilbride - Ex-Bills OC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Gilbride Jim Haslett - Ex-Bills player http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Haslett *Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Shanahan as our GM name his son as Head Coach...then, grab Trestman as an Offensive Coordinator and Haslett as our Defensive Coordinator. Keep Bobby April for ST. Let Fewell see if he can get a better job elsewhere, which he probably would. But, if he doesn't, keep him on board. I would also bring in Gill Byrd to work with his son. (not saying he needs help, but Byrd is regarded as a very good asst.)
  3. And THAT offense has looked very good this season...as has the QB!

  8. The first 2 are pretty big and have created A LOT of money. The fourth has created quite a bit of money too, mostly due to the new white AFL jerseys. But this says it all... From the Wings, Brandon went to work for the New York Yankees in a division called the Sports Advertising Network. While he liked the experience, he didn't enjoy the fact that he was away from the competition on the field. After a year there, Brandon went down to work with the Florida Marlins, first at the spring training facility and then as the Director of Corporate Sales in Miami two years later. While Brandon was in south Florida, the Marlins won the World Series over the Cleveland Indians on Oct. 26, 1997. Six days later, on Nov. 1, Brandon was sitting in his new office in Buffalo as the Bills' new Executive Director of Business Development and Marketing. Just 13 months later, Brandon was promoted to the Vice President position in the same department. http://media.www.cardinalcourieronline.com...n-3488737.shtml
  9. I see where you're coming from, but is it that hard for an Offensive coach at USC to produce good QB's? They get their pick of the cream of the crop and have THE BEST players around them at EVERY position. Vince Young has intangibles you just can't teach, he did a lot of that with a great defense and his pure will to win with his god given ability.

  12. I heard John Clayton refer to this earlier today...then on the news Mike Catalana said that there was a rumor that the contract extension was $10 mill over the 3 years. So, I ask...If Ralph would pay this fool that much, why wouldnt he pony up another 2-3 mill for a better coach? Everyone says he wouldnt pay a coach $6-7 mill....why not, if Jauron was getting 3+
  13. Bills captain stunned by Jauron firing By Tim Graham How suddenly did the Buffalo Bills fire head coach Dick Jauron? One of his captains was caught totally unaware. AP Photo/David Duprey Bills linebacker Paul Posluszny was caught off guard by the firing of head coach Dick Jauron."I found out through you," Bills middle linebacker Paul Posluszny told me over the phone about 10 minutes after the Bills sent out a press release. "I got a text saying 'Coach Jauron's been fired.' I said 'I don't think so.' So I went to ESPN.com, and I'm looking at your picture right now. "Wow. I couldn't believe it. I haven't spoken to anybody in the organization or any of my teammates yet." A move had to be made. The Bills are 3-6 and in last place in the AFC East. A litany of missteps -- firing the offensive coordinator before the season, implementing then scrapping the no-huddle offense, miscalculating the offensive line, in-game decisions -- made it clear Jauron was not getting the job done. But Posluszny was stunned that it happened now. "I'm completely surprised," Posluszny said. "Obviously, we don't have a good record, but we were all under the impression that we would have at least to the end of the season. If something was going to happen, then it had to happen, but to have him fired now in the middle of the things is very, very surprising." Buffalo went 7-9 in each of Jauron's previous three seasons and will likely miss the playoffs for a 10th straight season. "You didn’t want it to happen this way," Posluszny said. "Every time we lose, we say 'We've got to turn this around. We've got to turn this around.' We weren't able to do that, and this, obviously, is the consequence for that. "The players have the utmost respect for Dick Jauron. He's a great guy, a great person. But in this league, you've got to win. Unfairly, since we're not playing well, it gets put on him. He has to take all the heat for it. Whether that's fair or not, that's just the reality. We all love Dick Jauron. He's a great guy and a great man. It's just unfortunate that it had to happen this way." Posluszny was hopeful a fresh voice and new ideas will help transform the organization's culture. "What we have to stress is that this is an opportunity," Posluszny said. "There's no time to be depressed or be upset. We have to play the Jaguars on Sunday. This is a change that we have to make work for us. We can't sit back and say 'What if?' or 'I don't know.' We have to get ready to go and get ready to play a game." The news was so fresh to Posluszny that he asked me who the next coach would be. I told him the expectation was that defensive coordinator Perry Fewell would take over on an interim basis. "If he were the guy, I think we have a lot of confidence in him," Posluszny said. "He does a great job with us defensively. He's the type of guy that has the ability to lead a team, an entire football team. "If he's the guy, it's good that it'll be someone in house, someone we know." http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/tag/_/name/jauron-fired
  14. Other names to consider: Todd Bowles (Miami Dolphins secondary) Ted Cottrell (former Bills defensive coordinator) Jason Garrett (Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator) Turner Gill (University of Buffalo head coach) Leslie Frazier (Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator) Mike Leach (Texas Tech head coach) Paul Pasqualoni (Dolphins defensive coordinator) Brian Schottenheimer (New York Jets offensive coordinator) Marc Trestman (Montreal Alouettes head coach). Really? I would take Garrett or Frazier. Mike Leach? haha.

  19. I am sure if he WANTED to go to the NFL, Iowa would let him get out of his contract...coaches tied to contracts, get out of them and go to different teams all the time.
  20. "After playing football at Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ferentz played linebacker for the University of Connecticut. He was a football captain and an academic all-Yankee Conference linebacker at Connecticut. He served as a student assistant at Connecticut in 1977 and graduated in 1978. Ferentz spent his next two seasons as defensive coordinator at Worcester Academy, where he taught English literature. He then spent one season in 1980 as an assistant offensive line coach at the University of Pittsburgh. That Panther team, coached by Jackie Sherrill, finished with an 11–1 record and a number two national ranking. Ferentz was the offensive line coach at the University of Iowa under Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry for nine seasons, from 1981 to 1989. Eleven Hawkeyes coached by Ferentz went on to play in the NFL. Three of them were first round picks in the NFL draft, and five of his players were first team All-Big Ten selections. Ferentz left Iowa to coach at the University of Maine in 1990. After three seasons of coaching the Black Bears to a combined 12–21 record, he was named the offensive line coach of the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Ferentz served under Bill Belichick in Cleveland and followed the franchise to Baltimore when they became the Baltimore Ravens."
