Carucci: Disconnect exists between DL and scheme
BrooklynBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dareus played NT under Pettine 2 years ago. Mario and Hughes are edge rushers whether from a 3 point stance or 2 point. Dropping lineman into short zones is so common place now that I doubt anyone considers an exotic concept anymore. It's been done since the 80s. Nickell Robey is playing nearly 70% of the defensive snaps which means we are typical aligned in a 2-4 or 3-3 front with Mario, Hughes, Bradham, and Brown basically never coming off the field and with Kyle and Dareus as interior rushers. The bills are top 10 in yards per play allowed and top 4 in most defensive snaps against. In our two losses, they have faced short fields most of the game. They have also had injuries to safeties in every game. This is a big problem. Poor safety play/communication has led to a few big plays including the 51 yard TD to Jennings as Jennings was not Bradham's man on that play which means someone in the secondary(graham or Rambo or Williams) blew that coverage. This is a heavy man on man based scheme. Poor communication in the secondary is costing us. -

The only reason they would be planning on moving on from Kyle Williams is age. He fits just fine in this defense. -

Hughes and Mario are LBs in a 34 alignment. So money well spent on LBs there. Dareus is the NT. -
Rex playing Mind Games with Belicheck?
BrooklynBills replied to ko12010's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the bills don't go 3 and out 3 straight times in the first half, their game plan looks a lot less terrible. Each time rex has beaten Brady, it's because his offense controlled the ball and kept Brady out of rhythm. -
Belichick's latest monster?

The thing with an Air Raid offense is that IMO it is going to get points. Your O has to score and sustain drives. -
Belichick's latest monster?
BrooklynBills replied to BackInDaDay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Air Raid concepts are more than just play design. It also is predicated on giving the offense A TON of freedom to change plays/routes at a moments notice based on the the defense. Disguising your coverage intentions is a big factor in being successful against it; that is different than disguising pressure. In college, LSU ran/runs a Dime package with 4 DL, 2 LBs and 6 DBs where the DBs all roam around pre-snap to try disguise their coverage intentions. Communication in the secondary is essential also because there is a lot of switching off guys and playing a version of zone defense in which the zone defenders play man coverage within their zone on the field and then pass them off when they exit. The problem with the way the Pats run their O is that they can do everything out of there 2 TE set and get Gronk matched up on mismatch. Also, with a QB as smart as Brady running it and with their WRs being all very smart players, they know exactly how to attack coverages. Everything is based upon how the defense lines up. -
TT Contract--Florio Stirring the Pot
BrooklynBills replied to MattM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He signed a deal which pretty much gaurantees that he cashes in either next year or the year after if he plays well, barring injury of course. If he is good, he will get paid, either by the Bills next year or another team in FA in 2017. -

Dolphins are good on O with a up and coming young QB. They added Suh to an already pretty good DLine, making them one of the best units in the NFL. They are weak at LB and average in secondary, with Grimes being the only really great player they have in the back 7. But most think their defensive line will make up for that. Basically, Miami is looked at having a good offense and a good defense with a good young QB. And they have suspect coaching. The Bills are looked at having a great defense, an average to below average offense with a huge question mark at QB and a coach most people think is OK. The dolphins are much more balanced of a team and hence a safer choice to be better. The Bills probably have a higher ceiling if things break right, but have a distinct possibility of flaming out if the QB sucks. -
If Tyrod is bad and Manuel doesn't progress, I'd rather only win 3-5 games than go 8-8 or 9-7 with a stopgap QB.

Cost difference of cutting/trading a QB - only 1.35m
BrooklynBills replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we cut EJ, we are on the hook for 2.4 mil in dead money for his prorated signing bonus, plus 1.2 mil base salary in 2015 and 1.6 mil in 2016. Total dead money is 5.2 mil, spread over this year and next. If he is signed by another team, I would assume it's for the minimum salary of 585k for 2015 and 600k for 2016. That's roughly 1.2 mil EJ Manuel cost of cutting: 5.2 - 1.2 = 4 mil in dead money Matt Cassel cost of cutting: 0 dead money FINANCIALLY, the move is to cut Cassel. There is no argument against it pure $$$$ terms. -

They might think they can snag a veteran who gets cut this week. And not pay him over 4 mil. They chose Taylor to start. That means he will get at least a month to figure things out if he does not start off well. Also, this is Ryan's 1st year here. They have to be thinking about the big picture a little bit right now. -
Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him

http://mweb.cbssports.com/fantasy/fantasy-football/update/25098449/report-bilal-powell-leaning-toward-bills-rex-ryan Except by all indications, the Bills were after Bilal Powell back in March at the behest of Rex Ryan. It is just as likely that Ryan and Whaley agreed that Jackson was too expensive to keep, wanted to released him in March, and the owner said wait until camp so that we can sell more tickets. Or they said to Fred take a payout and he said I want 2 more years on my deal. You have zero inside info save for the Buffalo News who are just stirring the pot because that is what they do. -

By releasing him now, the Bills save 4 mil on this year's cap. Any cap savings will rollover into next years cap, increasing the total money the Bills are allowed to spend. Cutting him now rather than letting his contract play out essentially allows the Bills to spend $4 million more on players next season. This is essentially why Jackson was released as well and why a player like Manny Lawson could be on the bubble. The more the Bills save this year against the cap, the more they can spend next year. With so many guys needing extensions, the Bills need all the cap they can get for next season. This really was never an issue when the Bills were owned by Wilson. Actual cash spending was more important than what we were spending against the salary cap. With an influx of cash due to Pegula owning the team, we should expect the Bills to trying to "game" the cap in any way they can. Edit: Also, the negative numbers represent how much more money we can spend in 2016 -

Logic is wrong here. This is all about 2016 salary cap implcations. Keep both = 7.15 mil cap number this year; 2.8 cap number in 2016(EJ) 2016 cap effect: -4.75 mil(cassel contract coming off books; EJ under contract for 2016) Keep Cassel; cut EJ: 7.15 mil cap number(includes ~2.4 mil EJ dead money) this year; 2.8 cap number in 2016(EJ dead money) 2016 cap effect: -4.75 mil(cassel gone; ej dead money) Keep EJ; cut Cassel: 3 mil cap number this year( includes 600k Cassel dead money); 2.8 cap number in 2016(EJ) 2016 cap effect: -4.75 mil(cassel gone; EJ still here); reduces 2015 cap number by 4.15 mil which will rollover into 2016 Net 2016 cap effect: -8.9 mil That extra 4 mil is a starting G or resigning Bradham or half of resigning Glenn. This is year one for this coaching staff. They are not sacrificing mid 20s homegrown talent for a year of Cassel insurance(or Fred Jackson for that matter). -

That's fine that he wants to play 3 more years. It shouldn't happen here unless he was going to take a pay cut to the vet minimum. Even then, why sign a guy for that much money when you can just pay younger guys less money to ride the bench. This move has more to do with maximizing our cap space than Bryce Brown. People need to move on. Welcome to professional sports. Good guys get cut. -
