  1. They aren't going to bring in another DC to run a different system. They will likely promote from within and I would expect Babich to be the guy. The defensive side has alot of veteran coaching support on staff already. I'm just not seeing a full coaching staff overhaul at all after this year. Maybe that is a year or two away.
  2. To preface: I don't think they will be firing McDermott after this season. I think they will likely have to go with a younger group on defense based on the salary cap and simply where guys are in their careers. They have 10 picks in the draft and I think that is something that wasn't an accident and I would expect alot of the picks to be dedicated to supplying that side with youth and cost controlled players. That said, this is a historically good WR draft and I'm expecting that to be a high priority pick. If they finish 7-10 or 8-9, that would be roughly pick 12-16 which would a great spot to draft or even move up to take one of the top WRs in this class. They are currently 30M over the salary cap for next year. I would expect the following changes: Cuts/retirements: Mitch Morse, Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Deonte Harty, Siran Neal, Nyheim Hines, Rasul Douglas Combined with restructures to: Ed Oliver, Connor McGovern, Tyler Bass Gets us to roughly 20M in cap space. Guys who won't be released or traded before June 1 because they would cost more to cut/trade than to keep on the team: Dawson Knox, Stefon Diggs, Von Miller, Kaiir Elam They could also do things like extend Taron Johnson to reduce his cap hit (or cut him) which would free up more space. So I would predict roughly 24M-27M in cap space heading into the offseason with 10 picks in the draft. And thats without touching Allen's contract which I would hope they hold off on for now. I think thats plenty of cap space and picks to make some roster changes in the offseason and, if I'm being honest, I don't think they are losing much in the way of cuts as White hasn't been on the field consistently in 3 years, Poyer has aged, Hyde has aged (although I'd entertain him back on a modest contract), Douglas just got here (I'd also consider giving a new contract that lowers his cap #).
  3. Comp picks for players aren't officially awarded until after the season/before the draft because I think there are certain in-season things that can factor in to the formula. I don't think we'll have to worry about getting that pick for Edmunds though. The comp picks for minority coaches/management hires aren't dependent on any other factors so I'm guessing they are just awarded right away.
  4. I'm not saying it's a guaranteed cut and maybe 2025 is the more likely release but you can get a younger player and save money on the cap simply by releasing white and signing a good FA. They are going to have to make tough decisions cap wise after this season.
  5. I'm not 100% that White is back. Big cap #, age, significant injuries. And this will be 3 years now that they've played a significant portion of the season without him so you aren't really losing anything. They need to find cap space next year as is. I think he's a prime target for moving on. Not restructuring him at any point in the past 2 years let's you know that the Bills are at least considering it as well.
  6. Trading for guys that can help beyond this season would not be mortgaging the future. They will likely need to add a starting CB to the roster for next year. Trading for a player that you can extend is probably preferable to the draft or FA
  7. It's actually not a bad idea. You probably aren't seeing anymore 2 high coverages with Henry on the field. I don't hate it.
  8. The "Andy Reid didn't win right away" take is embarrassing. He also didn't win a SB with his 1st team but took them to the NFC title game 4 years in a row and the SB. The farthest the Bills have gotten is the AFCCG once and that wasn't a close contest. More importantly on Reid, once the peak happened in Philly, it was mostly all downhill from there. And it ended really badly. There is rarely a "phoenix" moment for coaches staying with the same team. The only one that comes to mind is Sean Payton in NO. I'm not saying they should fire McDermott but if this has peaked it's likely that it won't be turned around by him.
  9. Our 4 wins are against teams with the following ranks defensively(using DVOA): Raiders (23rd), Commanders (22nd), Dolphins (27th), Giants (28th - and the offense looked terrible in this game). 3 losses are against teams with these rankings defensively: Jets (12th), Jaguars (8th), Patriots (14th). We're almost halfway through the season. At this point, objectively, I don't think you can make a realistic argument for them beating a team with a top 15 defense the rest of the season (unless something drastic changes on the offensive side). So that would look like this with the remaining schedule (with D rankings): Tampa (10th) - L @Cincy (20th) - W Denver (32nd) - W NYJ (12th) - L @Philly (13th) - L @KC (9th) - L Dallas (4th) - L @Chargers (26th) - W NE (14th) - L @Miami (27th) - W Thats 4 Ws for the rest of the year and 1 of the games is at Cincy (which I'm not confident they'd win), at the Chargers (who have a top 10 offense which will be a challenge for our D), and at Miami (again - our D is a shell of what it was to start the year). The next 4 games are basically gonna determine our season and are all "winnable" IMO. They "should" win 3/4 based on the talent level and Cincy is playing better but not the team they were last year. But this can go south in a hurry if the offense doesn't find itself fast.
  10. I agree. The offense needs to be a bit more structured and deliberate in its play design and scheming and then adding those 2nd chance creation plays on top of it. Favre played his whole career in a highly structured west coast offense and then his playmaking was an added bonus.
  11. This right here! No one was asking him to stop running altogether! Just stop hurdling people 5 yards from the 1st down marker or lowering your throwing shoulder into LBers on 1st and 2nd down. Just be smart about it. I can definitely buy into some of the work ethic stuff. Working on your throwing motion and training with QB gurus is not the same as studying film and learning the details of your offense. Part of the appeal of the Erhardt-Perkins offense is the dual concepts in one play aspect based on the coverage that you are getting (i.e. simplistically having a man beater on one side and a zone beater on the other although it can get much more complex than that), but it really requires knowing where you are supposed to go with the ball and that means diagnosing coverages needs to be one of the QBs top strengths.
  12. Offense had PLENTY of stinkers in Daboll's time as the OC even in the "holy grail" 2020 season that everyone is pining for. 4 game stretch in 2020 - Titans, Jets, Chiefs, NE where the offense couldn't do anything. Baltimore playoff game where they refused to run at all in the 1st half 1st half of the KC championship game where they couldn't do anything 2021 Game 1 - Steelers - no answer/adjustment to their defense Game 2 - Dolphins - offense was trash in this game Game 9 - Jags 9-6 game - no answer or adjustments to how they were being played. Game 11 - Colts - offense sucked (so did the whole team) Game 15 - Panthers - offense struggled Game 17 - Falcons - offense was terrible Game 18 - Jets - offense wasn't good again. The 2021 playoff run glosses over SO MUCH struggling that this offense went through under Daboll. Even in the KC :13 sec game, the offense had 14 points with 2 minutes left in the 3rd Q. He did a great job with the 2022 Giants but I think a bunch of that was catching people off guard by using designed runs for Daniel Jones. Thats also what he did alot of here when his O started to struggle. Its just not a sustainable way to develop an offense IMO.
  13. I'm pretty sure Daboll was offered the Chargers job after the 2020 season and he didn't take it because he had reservations about Chargers ownership (this wasn't reported but I trust who I heard it from). So I could definitely buy into the idea that McD was ready to move on especially considering how much they seemed to clash in the following season.
  14. Realistic trade options: LB/S Shaq Thompson CAR - just redid his deal and I'd bet part of the discussion was finding him a good spot if the team tanked the season (which they have so far). Very similar style player to Milano. CB Jaylon Johnson CHI - under the radar guy they will be a FA after this year. Talk of an extension with bears over the summer so they might be trying to keep him but it hasn't happened yet. Highly doubt that DEN trades Surtain. I also question whether this defensive scheme requires a CB making almost $30M/yr which is what it will take to sign him.
  15. I think the insinuation is that he still had sex with her, only the context is way different than her story of being dragged to the side of the house and forced into a sexual situation. She's also 17 (or was at the time), although she was lying about her age at the party (apparently this also is on video), which is problematic as far as PR is concerned. I think if he had had no interaction with this woman then the Bills likely do not cut him as he would have been quickly removed from the criminal investigation. The issue always was that he couldn't remove himself from being investigated and the Bills cut him to be rid of the distraction.
  16. The 1 to 1 comparison isn't there but I can see what you are getting at. I think athletically they might actually be somewhat similar. Kupp ran a 4.6 40 at 6'0 200lbs and while Kincaid didn't run in the draft process most have his 40 at 4.7. Kupp obviously is a shiftier player and a more downfield threat. Kincaid should be able to really target the middle of the field and the seam and he should be a killer on those underneath option routes.
  17. I thought he tore his ACL before the draft too, right? Giants could have done it with Daniel Jones I believe.
  18. I think DT should be included in the possible 1st rounders too.
  19. Cutting McKenzie saves 2.7M. For perspective, Connor McGovern's YR1 cap hit is 3.6M. McKenzie's role is already filled by players on the team so that savings will towards a different position or towards signing a better WR. Just can't see him coming back after they basically signed guys off the couch to replace him last year.
  20. Paul Dehner is the Bengals Athletic reporter. Think this is fake.
  21. LVE had an amazing rookie season. Was voted 2nd team All-Pro. He was never the same after he had that nerve issue in his neck.
  22. Sure but I think the Brown trade is probably the fair value. Bills get Jeudy and 68th pick; Broncos get 27th pick And you could still sign a mid tier WR like Hardman actually. Broncos don't have a 1st or 2nd so I think they are pretty motivated to move up.
  23. I came here to initially disagree with this take but then I looked at some of the recent WR trades that were for 1s and Jeudy actually lines up right in that range TBH. Maybe its more like the Hollywood Brown trade where we do a swap of picks but I could see this being a better way to find that future #1 than some of the guys in this draft. I'd be ok with this. More than ok with it actually.
