I don't think we know that for sure. I think the most logical summation is that he brings in someone to collaborate on the offense with him; someone who would have equal input. I don't think he will hire a figurehead a la Arians in ARI or like when Gailey was here. At least, I hope he doesn't. He's never been a coordinator before. I would hope that he does not try to take on the duties of HC and OC all at once while never having done either job before. I'm sure he will be involved in gameday playcalling, but there's alot more to the job than just calling plays. Maybe Lynn goes all Andy Reid and is just a brilliant offensive mind that was never an OC before but I doubt it. He has been in the league too long for that IMO. Someone would have given him a shot by now to run an offense. But more likely, if A. Lynn is going to be successful as a HC, it's going to be as a CEO type leader, a la John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin, which means he will need strong coordinators on both sides of the ball.

I don't hate Bradley as DC though. I've wanted the Bills to be running the SEA style defense since the Marrone era. I would just be curious as to who he brings in to coach DBs because in SEA that is the strength of that team and that is Pete Carroll.
-
I'd still like it better than Kromer.
-
Isn't Ken whisenhunt calling plays there? His success as an OC and working with different QBs got him a HC job.
-
I want someone who has a track record with QBs. David Lee sucks. And promoting good OL coaches to OC rarely ever is successful.

If the D was great, we'd probably be going to the playoffs as wild card fodder for the teams actually contending for the SUPER BOWL- Remember the Super Bowl? The thing NFL teams are actually trying to win. It's not about just getting into the playoffs. And that kind of thinking by management will only keep us further from winning a championship here.

HC McDaniels QB Jimmy G -
I've been very critical of Whaley and don't think he is ultimately the man to lead this organization as GM/Football Ops. I would prefer that they clean house over there. BUT Doug Whaley leading the search for and ultimately having the most influence in picking the HC is the best thing moving forward. I will be interested to see who they interview and pursue, and I think we will learn alot about where we are headed as an organization based on this coaching search. The last one was a joke and it was clear at the time that Pegula/Brandon were the main voices and it showed in that they were more interested in established guys like Mike Shanahan or Ryan while the top coordinators like Quinn or Jackson or Bevell were ultimately passed over. (Dan Quinn would have been perfect here). If we ultimately choose Anthony Lynn, it will be clear that no one really wants this job and that the FO is just grasping at straws to extend the remaining days of their job. If they make an out-their-comfort-zone choice, I think it will be a step in the right direction. Either way, giving Doug Whaley the bulk of the power to make this choice and live with it allows them to get busy winning or get busy dying. WRT to Whaley, I guess you can make the case that: -he didnt hire Marrone or Rex; I think this was what was thought at the time -Watkins trade was more Brandon than Whaley; IMO unlikely -EJ Manuel was more Nix than Whaley; possible but unlikely -Shaq Lawson was what Rex wanted despite being hurt; likely IMO -His poor draft record is attributed more towards the constant scheme changes on defense and offense than his poor talent evaluation

I listened today and the whole show is a brutal listen, as it is alot. It's approaching Hockey Hotline status. Murph yelling "fix the problem," I think intimating that the fans shouldn't worry about who is in charge and just focus on fixing the football team's issues (re: defense), was the low point. Other highlights: -Promoting Anthony Lynn's "organizational skills" -Arguing that the draft isnt guaranteed and we need to do a better job developing players as a means of defending Whaley's lackluster drafts. -No mention of coaches around the league that they would like to see interviewed.
-
Anthony Lynn is the Brandon/Whaley Manchurian candidate. He is Jim Tomsula. He is someone that the front office can dictate to with regards to who should be playing/how they should be playing. Please. Stay. Away.

Harrison, Timmons, Shazier, Dupree are their 4 starters. Only noticed Moats on special teams. -
12-23: Doug Whaley on WGR
BrooklynBills replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Atlanta Oakland - IMO, McKenzie should run away with this award. There's a real leader of an organization. Dallas Kansas City New York Giants Tennessee Miami Tampa bay Detroit All way more deserving. The job McKenzie has done in Oakland is incredible. Took over an old, disorganized, unstable organization that was making desperate moves and trades to save their own jobs and peaked at 8-8 (Boy! That sounds familiar!). He came in with a plan and is executing it. And it's not just getting Carr. Getting Carr just sped up the process. The Raiders were old, expensive, and were peaking as a team as a bubble playoff team. Again, sounds very familiar. But they completely stripped down their front office after Al Davis died and turned their team around. The Bills and the Raiders were the two most dysfunctional organizations in football for years. Now the Bills hold that title all to themselves and until our owners decide to overhaul the football department it will continue to be our title. -

Jairus Byrd Benched in New Orleans
BrooklynBills replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please stop. Whaley offered Byrd 7.5/yr over 6. $30 mil in the first 3 years. They absolutely wanted to keep him. If they knew they would lose him to FA, you would hope they would have done a better job ensuring they would have received a compensatory pick for him(likely a late third rounder). Instead, they needed to sign Chris Williams, Keith Rivers, Anthony Dixon, and Jarius Wynn. -
PFW: Tom Coughlin the favorite to replace Rex Ryan
BrooklynBills replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is Gus Bradley bringing Pete Carroll with him because that is the only reason he was a good DC and got a HC job? Reich is intriguing but I doubt eagles let him take a lateral move to come here. -
New Chenelly Tweet - Coughlin an option
BrooklynBills replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Byrd is overpaid; absolutely. Searcy has a $6 mil/yr avg. Not overpaid. He's arguably been the Titans best player in the secondary. He also made plays here and was on the 2014 Schwartz D. I could care less about the fact that we let them go. I care that the players brought in to replace them were a 4th round total waste of a pick in Duke Williams and a converted CB in Graham. Graham has been ok. But the depth behind these players is atrocious. We are not getting good value out of the draft. Duke Williams -4th round Bryce Brown - 4th round Traded a 4th in Watkins trade Traded 2 4ths in Ragland trade Ross cockrell - 4th round I realize that the draft is an inexact science but thats alot of wasted value in the middle of the draft. -

Pettine had Searcy, Williams, and Byrd as the top 3 safeties if I recall. Also, let's review the players that you say Whaley "struck gold" on: Darby: inconsistent; almost benched in year 2 LoRax: an over 30 journeyman who now needs a new contract because we were so sure he was going to be good that we signed him to a one year deal Zach Brown: again, we were so sure of his talent that he was only signed to a one year deal and we will now have to overspend to keep him here Hughes: I like jerry Hughes. This had been a great trade. It also happened when Buddy Nix was still the GM, BTW. Incognito: I don't even think Whaley met with him in Miami. Pretty sure all the reports were that he met with Rex and then with ownership. -

It is when they are paying talent-wise at 8-8. This is about to be a cap strapped team very quickly with no CB talent, no S talent, 1 WR, and no QB.
