Him returning after being passed over for the HC job would not be entirely unprecedented. When the Ravens fired Brian Billick, many people thought Rex Ryan was the logical person to take over as he had just guided them to a few years of dominant defenses. When they hired Harbaugh, Harbaugh asked him to stay as DC and he did for one more year until he got the Jets job. All McDermott has to do is convince Lynn that staying here is in his best interest to get a HC job in the year or two. I think it really depends upon what their offensive plan is. If McDermott decides that slow overhaul on offense, both of personnel and philosophy, is the best course of action, then I could see Lynn and Taylor both staying, while they start building up talent on offense through the draft, much like how the Bengals recently built up their offense slowly over a few consecutive drafts.

They don't care. They just want an NFL West HQ. I guarantee that they will move most if not all of their TV production out there once their new stadium is built.

McDermott hire further diminishes Whaley
BrooklynBills replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a good thing if true. McDermott has ties to better regarded personnel people than Doug Whaley, not to mention he himself began in scouting. Jim Monos and McDermott both began as scouting assistants in PHI, although I don't know if they worked together. But that 2000s era Philadelphia staff has pumped out alot talent. -
Bills Salary Cap Options
BrooklynBills replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WR: I think DeSean Jackson here makes alot of sense, especially with McCoy here. Sammy Watkins DeSean Jackson Justin Hunter Rookie WR Listenbee CB: Captain Munnerlyn(UFA) played under McDermott at Carolina. Other options who will be cheaper include Morris Claiborne(was having a very good year before injury), Prince Amurakamara, AJ Bouye; I think they will franchise Gilmore though. S: Nate Allen, Jahlil Addae, Matt Elam, Tony Jefferson, DJ Swearinger, Quinton Demps, and Jonathan Cyprien are all options and upgrades IMO. RT: Ricky Wagner, maybe Andrew Whitworth if he will move to RT and doesn't retire -
Bills Salary Cap Options

Saves .7 million Its the final year. -
We are currently slated to have $25.9 mil in cap space for 2017, with 42 players signed. With roughly $3-4 million set aside for rookie pool, we effectively have roughly $22 mil in space. If we do not pick up the Tyrod option, that available cap space jumps to $38 mil. Releasing/retirement of the following players saves us another $17.6 mil: Kyle Williams(it sucks but is probably the right move) Aaron Williams(retirement) Corey Graham(not worth the money) Dan Carpenter(too expensive) Marcus Easley(too expensive) Patrick Lewis(too expensive) Seantrel Henderson(too many questions; not that great anyway) That gets us to 55.6 mil in space with the only real loss of production being Kyle Williams(maybe they can restructure?). That is a lot of space to head into FA with.

He also had a hand in developing Norman into what he is now. He has a track record of developing players on D. I think that is an important trait in a HC.
-
If the new coach is getting control over 53 and seemingly more pull in the organization, wouldn't it make sense that the #2 man in the football operation be more of operations/cap management type than a someone with a scouting background.

Coach search has come (again) who is the best fit?
BrooklynBills replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are not similar at all. Coming out of college, Wilson was already a great passer. If he was even Taylor's height at 6'1, he'd have been a 1st round pick at minimum, maybe even top 10. His question marks were all height. He did not have to learn how to play QB. Taylor was an erratic passer coming out of college with great mobility and a great arm. The next receiver he hits on a crossing route will be his first. -
HC candidate Kris Richard interviewing 1/8
BrooklynBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think his energy and how he interacts with his players would be a welcome change here. Maybe he's not ready yet, but I hope he impresses in the interview. I think I'm solidly in his camp of all the options we've seen. -
i dont think you are getting. At the time, the decision to sit Tyrod was completely over Lynn's head. The Bills (ownership and FO) have seemingly already made the decision to move from Taylor. It's non-negotiable, despite what anyone is saying. So they are absolutely not going to let the INTERIM head coach make a decision that could potentially affect the franchise for years down the road because said INTERIM head coach thinks its the right thing to do in order to win a meaningless season finale. 2 starting QBs went down with serious, long term leg injuries just the previous week. If Anthony Lynn does not understand that "business decision," then he is either too ignorant or not intelligent enough to be a HC. So if he reacts in a negative way towards the decision to sit Taylor after taking into account the context of the situation, it should be their decision very easy.
-
No. Lynn hasn't been involved in any conversations regarding personnel(upcoming FAs/possible draft targets/vision of team in future). If the new coach has a hand in the future of the franchise and is not just tasked with winning the next game on the schedule regardless of its overall importance, it's a good thing. Then, you don't get things like Marrone playing Orton in a meaningless game in NE or Ryan trying to play a hurt Sammy Watkins to start the year and getting him hurt even more in a walkthrough.
-
They don't want to tell the coach who to play. But I think they also want the coach to make the proper decisions for the good of the organization, not simply for the good of winning the next game, especially when that game is meaningless in the overall progress of the team. This, coupled with the news that they want the coach to have more organizational power, tells me they are looking for a coach to have more aptitude towards organizational management. IMO this is a good thing.
