  1. I will be a bit skeptical on this move as I don't think he ever called of plays as an OC, although neither had Lynn and I thought he did a fine job. Also, I will be more excited about this hire if it's coupled with a young QB or WR coach who can groom for the OC position in the future(Dorsey? Lal?). My only concern really is that we still don't have anyone on staff that has a track record of developing QBs.
  2. Won't have to draft him at 10. He might last until 3rd round(depending on pro day/interview) He is seen by scouts as a good fit for a west coast based, timing offense.
  3. If we are hiring Childress, Brad Kaaya is the QB we will draft.
  4. I'm as pessimistic as they come, but the Bills are easily 2nd on that list of plausible options. Houston - they are stuck with Brock for at least another year barring they hit the lotto on a drafted QB. They can't take on another big QB contract. LA - they just picked a QB at 1st overall. They are committed to finding out about him for at least another year or two. NY Jets - questionable OL, older receivers, Forte is 31. Whats their offense? Whose is their OC? Buffalo - Sammy Watkins and McCoy. Charles Clay is good. Pretty good OL. Could potentially draft another target at 10. Denver - they are the clear favourite for Romo if he wants to go there and they want him.
  5. Brad Childress is a long time Reid assistant and a former HC. Last year, he was with the Chiefs as a special assistant. This year, he was named co-OC. He has the clout, the experience, and, likely, the desire for more than that. He's only 60. It is highly likely that he has been with Reid these last few years to groom Nagy for the OC position. I have a hard time believing that Reid would block him from a job that gives him more responsibility and status, provided Childress wants the job.
  6. Ravens employ a kicking consultant. He is credited with deploying Justin Tucker into best K in NFL.
  7. Sure blame the city. Elway wanted to fire McCoy the year that he took the Chargers job and it was reported that their relationship was strained at the end. McCoy and Musgrave worked together for one year in which McCoy was a first year QC assistant and Musgrave resigned as OC after 3 games. Don't mention the fact that the Bills have no answers at QB and a completely muddied situation there. We have a rookie HC and a GM that most of the league still views as a joke.
  8. Helps to have respected management.
  9. I wonder if they would think of naming Scott Turner(QB coach of Vikings the last 3 years/Norv's son) as the OC, with Norv Turner serving in a senior offensive assistant role. Scott's promotion wouldn't completely unfounded either as many people credit him with the selection and development of Teddy Bridgewater. He also coached with McDermott with Carolina 2011-12.
  10. Andy Reid usually lets his guys move up.
  11. They like running.
  12. Couple of thoughts on guys mentioned in here: Munchak - no OC exp. Has never called plays. We have our version of him in Castillo. Alex Van Pelt - got somewhat of raw deal here. GB probably blocks him though. Kromer - pretty sure he did not call plays in CHI. Again, Castillo is already here. Callahan - another run game coordinator. Did not call plays in DAL. We need someone with a passing game background, playcalling experience, and who has QB development experience. This actually could be one person or 3. It doesn't matter. But we need to check those boxes.
  13. Shanahan will get 49ers job
  14. At least QB coach. I agree.
  15. I like Musgrave. He spent a year with Chip Kelly in PHI also. I think he'll want to work with a settled QB situation though.
  16. James Urban, current WR coach for CIN
  17. Brad Childress
  18. I would think if they block his advancement, he would just bolt to here when his contract is up.
  19. Also, Run game coordinator tells me they might be looking at splitting up OC duties. He's a great coach who absolutely needed to be fired in Philly. It had completely spun out of control.
  20. Castillo is an excellent OL coach. Was Reid's OL coach for almost his whole time with Eagles. Oddly enough, he replaced McDermott as DC when Reid fired him, which is a whole lotta late era Eagles/Andy Reid drama.
  21. IMO that is college offense mentality. "Let's just do what we do well, and the game will sort itself out." There are plenty of times this year when we needed to throw the ball in important v situations to get an initial 1st down or to extend drives to eat clock and they couldn't do it. Also, this decision is not made in a vacuum. He is owed mid level starter money guaranteed for the next two years. If was being paid even on a year to year basis, I probably would lean towards keeping him. But the contract is designed to either commit to him as a starter for 2 years or move on. We can get better production from QB position for less money. It's really that simple.
  22. I think we'll know more when we find out who has final roster control. And IMO, I think we will find out that decision will rest with McDermott. I don't see how he takes the job without that control in place seeing as how Whaley has conflicted with 2 HCs.
