THis is a bit disingenuous. It's not like winning a super bowl is the ONLY measure of a good QB. The first round is the MOST LIKELY place to find a franchise QB. I agree that, if they don't feel that one of this years crop is a "franchise QB" it would be foolish to spend the pick on him. BUT to say that we need to "fix the O-line BEFORE we draft a QB" is silly. The guy can sit for a year, and it will....AHHHHHHH! I've already posted this. If it isn't CLEAR by now, it's all just j3rking off. Think what you like.....

Is this a joke. Plummer couldn't even start in Tampa.

A big reason why the defense plays poorly, I believe, is because a defense runs on EMOTION. When you are being asked to sacrifice your body, and play all out, but you know you have NO REAL CHANCE to win because the offense can't score, it's tough to match the intensity of the other team, especially the best teams in the league. The defense has nothing to play for, nothing to make the sacrifices necessary to win seem worth while. It needs big improvement, but the offense is just NOWHERE! They could have the best defense in the league, and they would end up 8-8. For years they have been painful to watch. Why? Well the first thing that comes to my mind is the quarterbacks have sucked!

You really consider any one of those guys "serviceable"?!?! The Bills have really only had aONE top flight QB since the merger, JIM KELLY. A first rounder. They have only chosen 2 first round QB's in that time. Kelly and Losman. QB, more than ever, is the MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER ON A TEAM. Maybe if the Bills had chosen more 1st round QB's through the years, we might not have had to sit through all the embarrassing seasons. They missed ONCE with a 1st rd. QB, but with the other pick it was "GLORY DAYS". Once you have "the guy" he should be around for 10 years or so, plenty of time to build up a line. They have failed with SO MANY 1st picks, that I don't see why anyone thinks it would be a catastrophe if they miss again. You gotta have one. For the 1000th time, if a guy is worthy, it's still going to take a few years before a QB is going to be seasoned enough to win regularly. You can fix the other stuff while the QB sits a year, etc. Get a QB in here as soon as possible. Even if they spend a first pick on a quarterback THIS YEAR, we are still likely gonna have to sit through watching one of those "serviceable" QB's this coming season. Then the next year the guy gets it together, THEN the next season, IF WE"RE LUCKY, he will get into the playoffs. That's 2 more drafts and free agencies before the team needs to be a "complete" team. Pick 7 QB's! I don't care, they are going NOWHERE without a good QB, don't try to tell me they need a Nose Tackle more than they need a Quarterback!

Colts Offense Line looking in other direction?
Geno Smith's Arm replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Polian is great. But he has also had Peyton Manning all those years. If the Bills had Manning for the last decade they would have a much better record. Yes, I know Polian chose him over Ryan Leaf, but the real point is, when you have a great QB, the wins will come (the Bills getting a QB is all I really wanna talk about). -
If you don't like this years crop of QB's..
Geno Smith's Arm replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that's been strengthened more than enough by the past 15 years. -
I think you are onto something there.

Rookie left tackles that play great are as rare as the great first year QB's! Get a QB in and developing as soon as possible. If you can't patch together a line that is DECENT, let him sit for a year and learn the ropes. EASY. TIME EFFICIENT! The only good argument against not drafting a QB with the first pick is "that none of this years crop is worthy". We will have to wait and see after these guys have gone to the combine, or thrown for teams, etc. Some guys would rather have a linebacker than a QB. Jeezus!

I don't think the Bills have "proven" that. I think what the Bills have proven, is that if your offense can't score, your not gonna win. Yes, the defense need lots of help up front, but they occasionally stop a team or two. The offense coouldn't score at all. Plus a good offense will help the defense EMOTIONALLY. The defense has nothing to lay their bodies on the line for, because they know full well it's all for naught. -
No, but no one can say with certainty that Jim Kelly won't become president, or Barack Obama a NFL quarterback, but both seem highly unlikely. He has already busted at the Senior Bowl, in fact he was embarrassingly bad. He isn't fast enough to be effective in tghe Wildcat, an offense that most likely won't even be used in a few years. Lots of people dreaming about drafting guys for their Wildcat potential, and it's really just a gimmick. Lots of football players go to church, lots of them pray, for all I know, Rick Mirer was an ordained minister. None of that is gonna turn a guy into a successful QB/ NFL player.

It's obvious to us now! All these guys we thought were mediocre players were really just being held back by "the scheme" and playing out of position. This season, it's "lights out" baby! We won't even NEED a good QB!

ANDRE REED or CRIS CARTER ??
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He ain't gettin' in. And it's a shame. These are just the TD's, but he had loads of great plays that didn't score. Over the middle, and plays that he was stopped just short of the endzone etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adDmdg5DD6Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJMEweWGVTc Cris Carter's stats surprised me, but I watched him play, and he wasn't as good as AR, though he is higher profile in the media. -
The 3-4 Defense is Here
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone remember all the complaining people used to do about the Bills 3-4 defense back in the Super Bowl days? Everyone insisted that they had to change to a 4-3. It went on for years! I think they need a scheme that takes uses the players they have to the best advantage, whatever that might be. I think the best way to help this defense is to have an offense that is viable. An offense that gives the defense a reason to think the team might be have a chance to put some points on the board, and a reason to play inspired football. Defense is fueled by emotion, and this team had none after the first game, because they knew they didn't really have a shot. The offense was a joke, and has been for as long as any guy on the defense has been with the team. -

No you let him sit, work on playing under center etc., and build up the line in the meantime with some well chosen free agents, and other draft picks. Maybe they won't have the greatest O-line ever assembled by the new QB's second season (I know, "It's gotta be as least as good as the Jets, or they'll NEVER win"), but I'm sure they can bring together a good line by Opening Day 2011. Writing off a whole season to improve the O-line, THEN getting QB and developing him (what 2 or 3 more seasons?) is just stupid, and no GM or coach would feel comfortable about keeping their job, while waiting around for all these improvements. I wouldn't hold it against them if they drafted 7QB's. They are going nowhere without a legitimate QB. Again, ONE good QB inthe last 40 years! -

Yeah, lets improve to 9-7, and pick 15th after all the top QB's have been taken. If a talented QB is there (we'll know more after the combine/workouts) they better take him, unless they are working out a deal for a 1st/2nd tier veteran QB (unlikely). -

Phil Simms implies that SBXXV Bills Defense
Geno Smith's Arm replied to grammer_police's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he was indeed directing that toward the Bills (I doubt it), he would have some justification. As good as it was big play-wise, the defense had some soft spots. Jeff Wright and Sean McNanie come to mind By the way, the Tebow -Era has ended.... -
Thank God!

Don't count out Trent Edwards
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mention Plunkett as the only guy, then bring up Steve Young? Anyway, I don't think the only good Qb's are the ones that have won a Super Bowl. That's not the only yardstick. The team hasn't taken the chance very often (twice in 50 years), so for people to feel so uptight about it after all these losing seasons with crappy QB's, knowing that the Bills' only real success has been with a first round pick, and that QB is the most important position on a team, is odd to me. I am not sure any of this years crop are worth it, but if one is, go get him. The line can be enhanced along the way while the new guy watches and learns the pro game. That seems irrational to you? -

Geno Smith's Arm replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't consider those cases the same. I supposed I should have used the term "drafted" but I forgot that you are on this board Senator. Yeah, I know the risks, but this organization hasn't placed enough importance on finding a QB. Again, why not draft a guy now, let him sit, an enhance the line as we go? QB's take a while. Much more time efficient, no? -
