You're very clever! I guess it's all how you interpet "winding down". I interpet that to mean he won't be the starter soon, as if they were gonna sit him, and let one of the other get one of the other QB's in there by the start of this season. I don't think that will happen.

Trent is getting nowhere. I never watch the games expecting anything from him. The problem is, it's hard to evaluate many of the other players on the offense because so much hinges on Trents performance. How can anyone reach much of a conclusion about ANY of the receivers when the QB's on this team suck so bad? The running game suffers too, because the defense doesn't have to worry about the passing game. It's a mess, and it has been for YEARS.

I feel the same way about it. To brush it off as a preseason game at this point (10 seasons out of the playoffs) is naive. They aren't coming off a winning season, they are trying to get some kind of momentum going. There is NO MOMENTUM. Total incompetence, JUST LIKE LAST YEAR. Fkkk! They should be playing to win EVERY preseason game if only to convince the fans that they have progressed. Of course, someone will reply that they don't care if they lose every preseason game, just win the real ones. That sounds good, but it doesn't happen. Instead they continue to suck when the real season begins, picking up where the preseason left off. I'm not even really looking for wins, I'm looking for PROGRESS. There isn't any.

That was a good performance because he looked comfortable. He looked like a guy who is gonna be a starter soon. None of the QB's the Bills have drafted lately have looked that comfortable in their initial performance.

And that with the way the team was desperate to get the ball downfield, if he didn't have the leadership to say "eff the coach guys, I know your open, and I know I can get you the ball, and I know we're out of the playoffs, and I know every week in the paper they are calling me Trentative and Captain Checkdown, and it's obvious that the coach has little authority in this organization, you can call me crazy, but I'm gonna throw the ball FIFTEEN WHOLE YARDS downfield this time if it's there" If he couldn't do that, then he won't ever be a good leader. I don't think that it happened that way though. I just think that for whatever reason, he either can't or won't make the throw. What was DJ gonna do, bench him for Fitzpatrick? Oh yeah.

people are still clinging to this notion that Dick J wouldn't let Trentative throw the ball downfield. Like he was just following orders, he could have completed the long ball given the chance. The long ball was there, Trent just didn't throw it.

Yeah, I'm aware of who his quarterbacks were. Kelly was great, but Rice had two greats, each in their prime, successively. I think it would be fair to say that Jerry Rice had better quarterbacking throughout WHOLE career. A few seasons can mean a lot when it comes to stats.
