I didn't mind Whitner saying that. There is a difference in demeanor between the two though. Whitner sounds like he is trying to convince himself, and the listener, Spiller sounds like he is just letting you know whats going on. Whatever. If you don't get a lift from Spiller's attitude it's up to you, but there are more than a few that notice something different in Spiller. I'm usually considered a downer on this board, but I think I see something to work with in Spiller. They've needed an infusion of both talent and confidence for a while.

He didn't say there have never been any, he said he can't recall the last one. Maybe Takeo Spikes?

I noticed it in the interview after the preseason game, where he mentioned how he couldn't wait to start the season, and that he thinks the Bills offense will be "explosive". One can tell he has a different mindset that the average player. He expects to excel.

Sparano expecting Bills Wildcat
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would think that the Dolphins would be one of the best teams at defending against "The Wildcat". I bet the Bills run it now and again this season, just to "have the threat" . But I hope it isn't used much. Not that some teams haven't done some nice things with it, but it's kinda pathetic. Get a quarterback that can win some games! -
The Bills were worse in the Joe Dufek era. But it doesn't matter. The Pittsburgh Steelers don't need to finish at the bottom to climb back to the top. http://www.nflteamhistory.com/nfl_teams/pittsburgh_steelers/year_by_year_results.html They seem to be able to keep it reasonably together between contending seasons. They basically are able to tread water until they can find a good QB. Perhaps they are the exception that proves the rule, but I don't think so. The Bills need to find a QB that's all. It might be easier to get one with a top pick, but they MIGHT be able draft one in the middle of the 1st, or get lucky some other way. Jerry Sullivan has to write an article every other day or something. It also has to have some kinda dissent provoking opinion. Who reads the Buffalo News anyway? It's dead.

Why not build it on the edge of the falls???
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Merle Haggard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was being facetious. You would need a pretty big cliub to get rid of the guys in the Falls too. -

We only get a few to choose from. AND more importantly, the people that really control things aren't necessarily elected. Like real estate developers. Or the Power and Thruway Authority hierarchies. Lets topple these so the Bills can a have a stadium in Niagara Falls. So worth it! -

The basic idea is a very good idea. A stadium (not right next to the falls) in Niagara Falls would be great. It is a misused, and thoroughly mismanaged, international attraction No one seems to think I know what I'm talking about, but the big problem is the COUNTY. It doesn't have the juice to wrangle an NFL team away from Erie County, where the real power is based. There is too much money at stake, and too little money in Niagara County to pull it off. It is sparsley populated, and it's run by bumpkins and organized crime ("allegedly", in my best Jim Rome voice). Whatever you think about corruption in Erie County, it is at least "legitimized" crime. -
Super Bowl Winning Quarterbacks
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Benjamin Barker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Offense AND defense wins championships. Why do people have to use tired catch phrases that they heard some coach utter 20 years ago? Acting like they are experts....it's an over-simplification Know who doesn't win championships anymore? Bill Parcells The game has changed. The rules are slanted towards the passing game. And you need to have a pretty good defense too. PS. I somehow get the feeling that Parcells never wanted to be overshadowed his quarterback, that his ego couldn't accept a QB taking the spotlight away from him. -
YA Think Fred & Marshawn Are P.Oed ??
Geno Smith's Arm replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all his many faults, I think Lynch is a pretty team oriented guy. I don't see him making a huge deal out of losing playing time. He might let out a mild complaint sometime during the season, one that will be made into a mountain, but will likely just play video games, waiting to be traded or play out his contract. -
It's a cool play. I have to admit, it's something I have never considered. It actually places more importance on the receiver's skills than the QB. I think the Bills receivers are more talented than the QB's, so this is the right way to do things. As an aside, I wish the Bills would have done something like this last year when they had Owens.
-
I'm one of the biggest haters on the board, but I expect them to win at least 7 games. I think the defense will be better than one would expect from last years play. Why? Because they won't be on the field as much, AND most importantly, they might actually have something to play for. I think people underestimate how important this is. A defense has to feel that it has some kind of chance in order to play with enough emotion to put their bodies on the line. If they think "well the offense hasn't scored a touchdown in 3 weeks, we never come back from a deficit, we're not in the playoff hunt, and the coach is soft" you're not gonna have a good defense. The defense will play much better if the offense improves as much as YOU predict.

Troy Smith Fans- You can put it to rest
Geno Smith's Arm replied to BobbyC81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe, but will he win any games? -
That's some nice work. It isn't just a collection of uniformed opinions that the guy has read from other sources. I don't think most of the media has any real idea what is going on with the Bills, because they have been so irrelevant for so long, and so they just kinda skim over them and concentrate on "contenders", and the big market teams. P!ss on'em.

Todd Collins will start this year, finally
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whadd'ya mean? It's the BILLS fault he didn't become Tom Brady! -
Agree. It's not like there are great, or even good QB's out there waiting to be plucked up (and even if there was, it's not a given they would want to play for the BIlls). I am pissed they haven't come up with better options over the last 5 years or so (not that I have liked ANY of them since Kelly), and think they are treading water at QB still, but there aren't any real options right now.
-
That's what I'm worried about. Though I think the Bills will be smart enough not to be fooled by any jump up to mediocrity by Trent (that is, from "suck" up to "not terrible"). He is not the long term answer.

We HOPE they are back on track. I don't think we as Bills fans can really have a laugh at many other teams expense. And I would trade the farm for a franchise QB, just not Cutler. -

Why, would the BIlls be any worse? The Bills haven't made the playoffs in 10 years, Lovie Smith got to the Super Bowl not too long ago. I'm not condoning the trade for Cutler, but I don't see how you justify being smug, and using the good old "rolleyes". -
Agreed. The way this team has specialized in 3-n-outs with the 1st QB in there, does the 3rd QB really matter much?

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SPILLER PICK!!!
Geno Smith's Arm replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had hoped that they would either pick a QB, or a lineman, but you remark about home run power actual gives the pick some sense. With such a terrible offense, home runs might be the only way this team will be able to score. They haven't been surgically dismantling defenses with long drives. They have barely scored at all. -
I actually think it's just the opposite. The Bills are at least a couple years away from contending, and the guys from the last couple of drafts weren't gonna push this team to the top by this season even if the Bills had the best drafts in the league.

Why not build it on the edge of the falls???
Geno Smith's Arm replied to Merle Haggard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's one of the NATURAL Wonders of the World! It's already pretty commercialized (I think they should raze any building within a mile of it, but I know that won't happen). I can't see how having a stadium right next to the Falls, either would benefit (the stadium or the Falls). It would just look cool in the overhead shot from the blimp or something. Homer Simpson, is that you? How about this? Give Niagara Falls an opportunity to somehow manage to keep say, a bowling league going for 10 years. Then, if they can keep that going, maybe they can be taken seriously as a "host city".
