How do you know they didn't try to trade for those players? -
Teams are built through the draft....

It all revolves around finding a quarterback. If they have a QB they can be effective, right now they are floundering. A top shelf QB instills confidence that you are actually playing to win. Not only the offense, but it motivates the defense to know that they are sacrificing their bodies with a real chance at glory. Otherwise it's just a paycheck, a large paycheck, but that's only enough motivation to stay in the league. That's what we have right now, guys that want to win, and probably expect to win each game going in, but don't really believe that they are good enough to win the Super Bowl, so they are working for a check. It can be turned around quickly, there are some good players on the Bills, but they have a few critical positions that are really weak. They need a QB, a quality LT, an average RT, and an elite level guy in the defensive front 7 (one that can make the guys around him better by drawing the focus of the opposing offense). As an aside, with an 18 game schedule, depth is going to become a lot more important, and that has to be part of any plan. -

Twisted logic there, my friend. There have been far more unsuccessful "Trent Dilfer's" than successful. A handful of mediocre QB's have accompanied great, once every 10 years-type defenses to the Super Bowl. It's probably even harder to build a great defense like those, than it is to find a top shelf QB. There are probably 7 really good QB's in the league right now, and let's say they average 10years a career. There is (maybe) one defense like that right now. That 10 years of high level QB play. How long are you going to keep a GREAT defense together (one capable of winning with Trent Dilfer)? I also want to add that the Ravens were the dullest championship team I ever watched. I would rather have the 6 or so years of what may have been the most exciting football team to watch ever ( the Golden Age Bills). than one Super Bowl win and years of dull football. It sucks that they didn't win a Super Bowl, but they were way more fun that anything the Ravens or those Tampa Bay teams ever were. -

Trade Lindell to the Saints

Thank you, NoSaint. Guess the Saints will never know the pleasure Rian Lindell can bring to a team. -
Trade Lindell to the Saints

Dude, that Lindell rant is a classic. Of course I could argue that neither of these guys have EVER kicked under any real pressure, or made a single significant kick, because they have never been to the playoffs, where the real pressure starts, or have even had to make a season maker/breaker because these Bills have sucked for so long! I didn't realize that Moorman and Lindell have been keeping the Bills up there at mediocre all these years! You're probably right though, no other kicker/punter tandem could have kept these Bills right in the thick of it (except, judging from week 1, the Dolphins punter), and given the team the chance to bumble away victories right at the end! Awesome! Jeez, we need SOMEONE at the ProBowl! -
Trade Lindell to the Saints

Which is it? "The kicker is too important, don't trade away one of the few good players on the team" or "No one would give a you anything for a kicker"? I can agree with "they can't get much for him", but " we have to keep our kicking game, it's so special" doesn't really convince me. -
I am suspicious of open roster spot

They are trading Lindell to the Saints! Brilliant! -
Trade Lindell to the Saints

I can accept the notion that it's stupid, but you need to tell me why it's stupid. If there was room, it'd be great! They always sell crappy sports memorabilia at flea markets. Maybe they should do that in Jacksonville! Tim Tebow wall hangings and whatnot -

That's rational. I bet Lindell would be great in a dome. -
Trade Lindell to the Saints

I can understand something like "they won't be able to get much for him, maybe a late round pick" or "the Saints wouldn't make any deal like that because.....", but considering that the O-line has at least one GLARING weakness (at right tackle), and how much this has been affecting the offense, and really the entire team, I would trade away Lindell for a guy that would get that position up to acceptable. I know Fitz kicked the offense into gear, but despite their history, the Patriots don't have a very good defense this season, and there will be some tougher challenges in the season to come. The Bills seem to find good kickers (no need for Norwood blasts), and they would have at least an offseason or two to find another good kicker. The Saints need one NOW. -

Because I can't tell if it's genius or silly. Like there could be something obvious about it that I'm overlooking. The other thing is , I don't know what the going rate is for a pretty good kicker. Maybe package him up with another player? Moorman? The Bills are going nowhere, and they have this Superstar Punter! C'mon man. "At this point"? Right now they are years away from needing any big kicks. -
I realize many will think this is stupid, but he might be the most valuable guy on the roster (maybe trade Moorman?). A backup linebacker or O-lineman from the Saints might be better than what we have. I have no idea what a kicker might bring back in a trade. Troll material? Sure, but it's at least as interesting as "Trade Marshawn Lynch!".

It's kinda funny because they were opposites. I prefer JP because occasionally he would wing it downfield and connect. At least he had ONE throw. Trent, dare I say it, managed the game better (not that he was so good at it, but JP was nowhere). JP was more interesting too. I wanted to like him, Trent just seems bland. Let's just be happy they are both gone.

Sounds To Me That Brohm Will Be Starting Soon
Geno Smith's Arm replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It does? I have a feeling that they aren't comfortable about any of these guys, and that all the QB's have their jobs by default. Maybe Edwards asked to be released, or they felt he was a distraction. There could be many reasons, and I don't think Brohm's presence had anything to do with it, he just happens to be 3rd string QB. -

Akili Smith has fully healed! never got a chance. I still like my "American Idol" style QB search. Just invite any former 1st round QB's to play a single game each, and have the season ticket holders vote at the end of the season! It would make the Bills relevant again to television, and way more interesting to the rest of the NFL fans. -

Gee, I was thinking that the only reason they didn't cut him is that he already knows the playbook, and Levi Brown wasn't as good. I think if they thought he was starter material (or at least better than Fitz) they would have made him the number 2 from the start. I think they see what they have in Brohm everyday, and know he is nothing special. I think he probably isn't that great, but will get a chance to play because the Bills don't have ANY good quarterbacks on the roster. But maybe he is Tom Brady or Kurt Warner, just waiting to take this franchise to unknown heights, and we will drown in euphoria chanting his name loudly and proudly "Brohm BRohm BROHM! It could happen just like that you know. Prove me wrong! -
Fitzpatrick threw 2 costly INT's, yet....
Geno Smith's Arm replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I definitely prefer Fitz's suck to Trent's. I still expect them to lose, but at least they score and entertain me. That will get old though, it's just that my expectation's are so low, that 2 first-downs in a row get me on the edge on my seat. -
we cut our losses with the worst player in the NFL
Geno Smith's Arm replied to berndogg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not really defending Maybin here, but the whole defense. The thing about sacks is they are a lot easier to get when you're playing with a lead, especially a big lead or late in the game. That is NEVER the case with the Bills, I can't remember the last time they had a big lead. -
He is also surrounded by better players, and that usually helps. Ask Jim Leonard.
